That assumes people who have both of those things enjoy going to breweries/taprooms. I don’t especially, and I enjoy the convenience of drinking what I want when I want. I could probably walk a couple miles in any direction from my house and stumble upon a brewery, but most of the time I have no interest in doing that.

    0-10%.

I will go to a brewery when on vacation, once or twice a year. I will go to Forest and Main 5-6 times a year and Human Robot 2-3 times a year and Bills Best a few times as well. If I had more expendable $ I would go a bit more often, I also need to drive so I only have a few lower ABV beers. Guessing I go to a brewery less than 15 times a year.

    Enjoy

Counting individual drinks/glasses is far too tedious. If I make it to most pint nights a year, each Tuesday that's 52/365 and since I drink nearly everyday that comes to 13-14%

    Cheers! :beers:

Even though a small percentage of my beer consumption is at the brewery, I do love going to breweries.

I know I'ma be an outlier here, but, I drink far more 'out' than home. It's not even close. I've gotten older, and have had some life changes the last year-and-a-half, but I'm just rarely interested in drinking alone, at home.

That said, I did run some errands, and have lunch/beers with a friend this afternoon, which is why, after having a can of Georgetown Meowsa! ImpIPA, I've decided that cracking open this last crowler of Empires Fall Barleywine from Darach Brewing, obtained just before they closed up shop, seemed like a good idea at the moment.

Mostly on the street . I like the vibe.
It got way too pricey last year so this years goal is to spend wayy less on on-site beer.

    Truth.

But, if I'm only gonna drink a day or two a week, and, I've got a bunch of great breweries/taprooms/bottleshops/bars in town, Why drink a bottle of Blind Pig, alone, at home, when I can take a different approach on the the days I drink?

Again, I get that I'm an outlier, with (apparently) options that some folks don't have.

Drink Blind Pig outside, makes it 100x better!

    Kidding.

Closest breweries/taprooms i like are Stone ,Firestone Walker, Smog City, El Segundo and Brävery.

Closest one: Stone 30 minute drive
Furthest one : Brävery 70 Minute drive

    So . Yea.

    I know the feeling.

The challenge is trying to convince the significant other that going to a brewery and drinking an afternoon away is a family friendly activity.

We should let each other know when they agree. :joy:

I'm around 6% at the source. Mainly because of budget. My daughter lives a few blocks from Radicle Effect Brewerks and Midwest Ale Works is close by in the city I reside. So those are usually the two I visit.

It used to be far higher, but with increasing costs, traffic, and now that we're true 1st shifters on the time clock, we've plunged, and now that the brewery where my wife was a fill-in bartender closed, it'll be below 10% this year.

Though if you included beers consumed at breweries during bottle shares, that % goes up significantly.

If I go out for a beer, it's typically at a brewery. Anymore, there is really only one beer bar in town that I really enjoy, and I have to pass my favorite brewery to get there.

However, my actual consumption 'outside of the house' is probably relatively low for me. If I go buy a 4 or 8 pack of beer at a brewery, I tend to only stay around for a draft pour or two at the taproom, meaning I'm consuming 12.5% (1 out of 9) to 33.3% (2 out of 6) of my beer in a brewery / taproom at those ratios.

For this poll, I answered 31-40%, with this total representing 80-90% (guestimate) of the beer I drank outside of my home (meaning I rarely go to bars, and when I am consuming beer outside the home, would prefer to be in a taproom.)

I'm at 0 to 10% now. But was higher 2 years ago. Age, DWI and cost are now factors. Now I often go to tap rooms have none or a small pour or 2, or a sample. Then buy beer for home and go. Now days two full pours seems to be the max and doesn't happen all that often. I don't go to bars often like I used to.

Based on how busy tap rooms are (and I've been to them in multiple cities), I don't think you're an outlier at all.

Do you like to go out though to drink? That would be the third criteria that will largely influence someone's vote.

For me there's so many draft only options at my local breweries, that I'd miss out on trying a lot of beer if I didn't go to the brewery itself. I see this a lot, at least locally in MA.

Canned offerings are limited, and not as fresh.

That’s kind of my point though. Your first statement seemed to imply that people would go to breweries/taprooms more often if only they lived closer to them and could afford it. But that third factor—enjoying the experience and wanting to do it—is just as important, if not more so.

As for me, the simple answer is no. You are correct that the beer is usually better fresh at the source (at least compared to the same beer packaged in cans/bottles), but for me in most cases the convenience of drinking at home—surrounded by my favorite people in the world (who do not drink) as opposed to a bunch of strangers (and possibly little kids and dogs, which for me is generally a net negative, but to be fair some adults are just as annoying), comfortably in my corner spot on the sofa rather than sitting at a large wooden table, doing whatever I want to do rather than just sitting/drinking/talking—outweighs that. There are certainly times when I enjoy the experience of going to a watering hole and catching up with friends, but there again most of my friends are not as into beer as I am so it’s not necessarily a shared positive experience. And then of course there is the cost. Sure, I can afford it—but usually I feel my money is better spent in other ways. The FOMO you mention simply is not a factor for me anymore.

My wife and I enjoy the taproom experience. We have multiple options within a 10 minute drive, and sometimes just venture out to check out places outside our area. The experience is the ultimate driver, as opposed to the ability to drink taproom only beers. FOMO is not a part of our drive to go to the taproom, but rather socializing. Cheers!

I wish it were more often, but I fall firmly into the 0-10% category, probably closer to 3%
