Brief threadjack - there's debate over this. When we use coconut or coconut water in food/bev products in my plant, we were told that USDA (via our quality and regulatory folks) it is considered a "tree nut" and is therefore required to be treated as an allergen. Isolated storage, extra cleaning/sanitation. Even though botanically it's a fruit...logic doesn't always apply in regulations, I guess. I think it's not correctly called a "tree nut" either, but what do I know?

On topic - I'll try this but how good it is certainly depends on the pepper used. Agreed that jalapeno would be awful. Ancho or cayenne or even hotter varieties would have potential. I loved Habanero Sculpin and the Maine brewery Throwback made a Bohemian pilsner with habanero that was excellent. So not opposed to the concept, but set the right flavor profile.

Not disagreeing; everyone has a right to their opinion, but people (myself included) often taste "dark fruit" in our additive and adjunct free stouts. Plums, raisins, maybe undefinable but recognizable as coming from fruit flavor(s). So while I don't seek out fruit in my stouts, I do believe it can be done well. I just don't know that it's been done truly well as many times as not though...

I never tried Habanero Sculpin, but Masthead makes a nice habanero beer that is out right now called Ice Melter. Good habanero flavor and heat in a grapefruit IPA.

And if we're being pedantic, coffee beans are also technically a fruit.

But I agree with the overall sentiment that fruit usually negatively impacts a stout, even if it does sometimes offer an interesting twist. One stout that I can think of off the top of my head where I appreciate all the fruited variants of is Deth's Tar, though I enjoy the base beer quite a bit as well.

I think they’re a bit all over the place lately. If they keep using artificial ingredients, it’s time to move on.

Dogfish Head did that a few years back with Theobroma, although it wasn't a stout.

Found some, enjoying it now. I think this is the best new variant since Espresso. For the skeptical ones I would say it is certainly one of the better barrel aged stouts that I have had the past couple of years and worth the try.

Use to see these KBS variants around here a couple of years ago, at least. Crickets now. Maybe this Sunday I will find some.

    Cheers!

Not a stout, but a chili beer that I found different and very enjoyable. It has a very fresh, green, Serrano aroma and flavor. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63557/688682/?ba=brewerburgundy#lists

As someone who puts carolina reaper flakes in his regular KBS, I cannot wait to find this in SoCal!

I would say it is worth that price. Does your retailer allow you to purchase singles? $5 isn't a big ask.

I grabbed a 4 pack of this (TW Norfolk). Its not as spicy as I would have liked. It's spice for the masses pretty much.

Price seems reasonable to me. Goose Island Bourbon County Stouts are usually around 25 bucks a bottle.
