I’m going to give it a little boost and grumble about merch for a second. I want 100% cotton t-shirts. None of this polyester blend business!

When I’m buying a shirt or hoodie in person I will check. Ordering online, that’s a different story. (And the reason for this rant.)

    Ok, done.

What are your brewery pet peeves?

And, I want the thick, heavier shirts. Not the ones that seem like they come prewashed to within 4 washes of death. I want to be able to wear it for years!

Yes, get the artificial plastic crap out of our clothes and environment.

This too. Bought my wife a shirt from Old Irving Brewing and it lasted like two washes meanwhile I have t-shirts that have lasted in regular rotation for 10+ years…

Here is my list, but probably most already mentioned.
    • Social media only, no website
    • Bad acoustics. This applies to all the big Jenga, Dogs, Kids, Music already mentioned, but seriously, just design the space for noise.
    • Poor display of tap list
    • Owner acting like he/she can do no wrong (and taking up a bar seat).
    • Seriously bad beer (but this problem shouldn't last too long). My family has left unfinished beers on the counter at two breweries as of now.
    • IPA only tap list.

I gotta admit, I don't know why this bugs people. Is he not supposed to enjoy the fruits of his labor? Doesn't it speak well when the owners are available and visible? Isn't it a good sign when someone builds a business they're comfortable in, not just one to vacuum cash?

Enough of the I.P.A's. It's simply not a unique idea. Please note I do like i.p.a's but I stopped buying them sometime ago.

Especially the hazy ones. I've been to too many places where all the IPAs on offer were hazy. Surely, a WC or simply a non-hazy one can be brewed.

    Hi mods,

Since my thread boost ended up kicking off a new thread do you mind if I edit it a little. Make it more intro-like and less random sounding?

I believe this thread was split because of the political conversations that happened in the old one. Plenty of other threads have gone dormant for months and then resumed the following year without being split.

Good list. I would add not having pretzels for purchase. Snacks for purchase (pre bagged) should be required, not just trail mix. Pretzels are fairly innocuous and do not change flavors when trying new beers, but the flavored chips and trail mixes do mess with the palate.

If I walk into your brewery to have beer and you tell me there is an issue with the tap system I understand. Don’t then tell me cans of beer cost the same $ as a draft did or I will walk out like I did at Human Robot last year. A 4 pack is $15, don’t tell me a can will be $7-8. I will pay you $4 a can and you can sell a ton of cans. Honestly not my problem your lines are down.

    Enjoy

This, in spades. I do not now, nor will I ever, have access to any of the popular social media cesspools. BA and Untappd are about the extent of it for me. (I did join Nextdoor to be a curmudgeon and complain about the idiots around here using their snowmobiles on the recreation trails. Fat lot of good that did.) It would be a trivial matter to post the same updates to your website as you're posting to FB, Insta, or X. If you can't be bothered to do this, screw you.

I just randomly saw this. In the future, report your post (or DM me) with your edit.
No. It was split to kickoff the thread for 2024.

Painfully loud, shitty music. I'd love to sit and have a few beverages but it's physically painful, I can't hear myself think and here's a flash: your taste in music isn't as good as you think it is.

Also, mommies who bring their toddlers to breweries to have playdates with other toddlers. To be clear, it's not the toddlers I object to. It's the mommies. They're a plague on the earth. There should be a test before you can get a permit to breed.

Actually, come to think of it, nearly everything annoys me to some extent.

My pet leave is actually the opposite of this:
Breweries that only sell to-go beers in 4packs of same beer (i.e they won’t sell single cans to go or no mixed and matched 4 packs allowed. On my recent trip to Philly area a few weeks ago both Human Robot and Forest and Main provided the opportunity to buy singles so I was able to bring home 8 different beers for $40. Agree the pricing is still high but usually my personal at-home consumption is with more economical beers (store-bought wider distribution regionals/national brands) and my brewery to-go pickups are “special” and usually share those with with friends.

My other pet peeve is along the same vein and I started a whole thread a year or 2 about this, but cans-to-go from breweries that aren’t fresh. Seems to be pretty common issue from many of the lowers traffic local brewers from input received previously.

As someone who deals with sensory issues this is a huge pet peeve of mine. It’s not even that I’d expect the place to be a library, there’s just some bare minimum noise absorption that can be built into the space to take the edge off. I keep earplugs in my pockets for just this reason.

for the ones that do, and there’s a fair number, I see you and appreciate you

I'm an old guy, in my 60s now, and don't quite have the eyesight that I used to. I hate going into a tasting room or bar, especially if it's dimly lit, and the beer menu is well behind the bar and often way up high, and hard or impossible to read.

When I come across places like that I'll go to a corner of the establishment and try to find someplace online with a current menu listed and decide on what to order that way.

Please bars, tasting rooms, etc ... don't make it hard for me to do business with you. It's just one more reason for me to go elsewhere or just drink at home.
