Mont des Cats. One of the 'non official' Trappits beers.
They are Trappist monks. But production is not in line with the strict quality label.
More Trappist breweries are struggling. Even Westmalle. So I learned from a Dutch newspaper article. Their are not many people that chose the monastery as a career option nowadays

Afternoon phone / video call cancelled - so, time for a (NA) brew....this one is great!

 

1) Utepils Pils (5.0%): A Czech Pils from Minnesota with flavors of lemon citrus and sweet bread malts.
versus
2) Falling Knife Freischütz (5.3%): A German Pils from Minnesota with lemon, bread, yeast. Smooth and soft. (Mismatched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) Falling Knife Freischutz: Euro Lager Battle both from The Cities. First is Utepils. They make some great German beer, but this is my least favorite of them. Lemony and sweet, but missing that characteristic Czech character. Almost like a Blonde.
Next is Falling Knife Freschutz. Actually drinks more like a Czech Pils than Utepils. It's got nice lemon, yeast, grains, and bread. Very smooth, soft, and balanced. Very enjoyable.

 

Slow snow day. Guess I'm up again already...

1) Hop Butcher Reply and Unwind (8.0% canned 10/31/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Citra, Moteuka, El Dorado, Simcoe, and Mosaic for flavors of tropical orange, fruit punch, and overripe berries.
versus
2) Phase Three Phase Of Fog (8.0% canned 12/5/23): A NEIPA from Chicago with Mosaic for flavors of orange citrus, tropical berries, melon, and some dankness. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

Winner:
2) Phase Three Phase Of Fog: Chicago NEIPA Battle. First is Hop Butcher Reply and Unwind. Canned a while ago, but a nice hop combination. A bit of fruit punch and OJ flavors. Slightly frutier and sweeter than I prefer, but still pretty good.
Next is Phase Three Phase Of Fog. Single Mosaic hop. Wonderful medley or tangerine, tropical fruit and berry flowers. Tropical, yet bright. Drinks smooth. Dyanmic NEIPA and I'm continually buying these.
Overall, both drink similar, but Phase of Fog has a more refined flavor and drinks far more smooth.

Tested positive last night and I've been relegated to my home office by my family. Not so bad - streaming ESPN (will be watching any college hoops this evening), going to hang here at the VB, and going on the hypothesis that beer will kill off some 'vid.

De La Senne - Saison De La Senne (Barrel-aged Saison)
