The incredibly thoughtful post from @wasatchback explaining the reasoning behind commercial pricing (https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...ly-talk-about-craft-beer-prices.675750/page-5) got me wondering:

How do those of you in the industry use BeerAdvocate?

I'm defining industry loosely, to include brewing, retail, or service side of things, although I don't want to limit it to just those areas. Beer journalism? HR and accounting? Who am I missing?

If your involvement in BA depending on your role, what determines your level of interaction? Do you actively participate in the forums, or just pop up occasionally with an announcement or clarification? Do you post reviews? Trade beers? And how do you view the motley lot of us here on BA?

Been in the industry about 4 years and it’s astounding how many long time accounts actually have no clue how breweries/taprooms run or how to be kind.

Non-industry BA here. I think I know how to be kind but, as far as how breweries/taprooms run, it’s not like that’s even vaguely a prerequisite of having an account or being active on BA. Some of us just like to drink, and occasionally talk about, beer. We don’t really know or care how the sausage is made.

I think they are talking about bar accounts, their customers, not BA accounts.

    Enjoy

If your interpretation is correct, then it would seem that @iwantyourskull ’s post really doesn’t respond to the OP’s question at all, because it has nothing to do with activity on BeerAdvocate. It’s just a complaint about customers.

There’s a thread for that, too!

I know—I just don’t know why @iwantyourskull would post that comment if he was referring to bar accounts. It would just be kind of a non sequitur in this thread. That’s what led me to believe he was talking about BA accounts. Only one person can clear this up, it would seem.

I worked in the industry, My experience was mixed. Love the brewing process and how minor changes to recipes made big impacts. What I hated was if they were short on an ingredient something was substituted and it completely changed the flavors. The excuse that was not said but implied in so many ways, money first. They had an opportunity to make quite a bit of money if they cared more about the product.

I'm no longer in the industry, but am still connected, to a certain degree. BA has never really been a factor for most breweries. Some use it to a small degree, but it's a non-issue forist.

I empty the trash at my local beer store and I break down the cardboard and take the recycling to the transfer station. Sometimes I write reviews and post pictures of the beer I’ve stolen on WBAYDNNE.
