    Good morning and happy Friday Advocates,
    while waiting for the weekend, I'll send you last night's beer.
    In praise of simplicity.
    Birra Gaia (Carate Brianza, ITA) - ASABESI - Dry Stout (4,1%)
    33 cl can (5€ from pub fridge).
    Much appreciated that the hops used are indicated on the label, even if the malts are more incisive in this beer.
    Freshly uncorked, light toasted aromas.
    Poured it is a solid black topped with a discreet beige foam, very soft.
    The body is light and characterized by a light background carbonation which makes the beer extremely drinkable.
    In the mouth the predominant taste is that of cocoa which is counterbalanced by toasted and roasted notes, which integrate perfectly.
    Precisely the toasted notes contribute to a dry finish, not bitter, but which leaves the tongue clean and very light notes of coffee and cocoa on the palate.
    No flavor stands out over the other and although it is not a beer that gives a particular distinctive aspect to make itself recognisable, it seems to me to be made with full respect for the style.
    In my mind it's simply cataloged as Gunness done better.

    Good day BAs! @Jack_14 - thanks for the start and the review - "Guiness done better" is an excellent descriptor!
    Well, it's 21F/-6C and we're under a weather advisory for the next 30 hours - bands of lake effect snow may move in. Oh well, it's January in NW PA so it's not unexpected. The ol' snowblower is gassed up and ready to blow.

    Final impression and summation: 4.25 Very tasty citrus, and dry. If more pilsners were this good, I’d start drinking more of them – very poundable!

    Enjoyed a Slow Burn (Smoked Marzen) from Tree House and an Allagash White last night. Tree House's take on the Schlenkerla and it's impossible to imitate. They did a solid job because they can't smoke their malt like Schlenkerla does. As much as Tree House is well known for their IPAs, they have what it takes to make damn good lagers and I will gladly invest in that.

    The Allagash, can't go wrong with a solid winner. Great post curling beverage and it simply hits the right notes, it's consistent where you crack one open and you know what you're getting.

    Fam, an unfiltered pale ale. Bright pineapple flavors with a grassy finish. This is a collaboration between Ventura Coast and Las Palmas Brewing. Got a few more days of Palm Springs porch beers...

    How are ya?

    I'm alright. Another inch of snow on the ground, 6 miles pounded out, with a big weekend total ahead. I'll tune in with A beer today, not more than one, but will be scarce until Sunday or Monday. Trying to be better about my daily consumption. It sucks. Untitled Sharts NA juicy thing.
