I prefer the company of friends of course but still enjoy a solo beer

I definitely enjoy the peace and enjoyment that comes from drinking a brew by myself, whilst reading a book or practicing my drums. But, if I had to choose, I'd say that I prefer drinking with others. My wife is not as into beer as I am, but it's nice when we can share time together. And getting together with friends over beers is always time well spent.

Honestly, it really does. I just became a dad 2 years ago and I’ve been married for 6 years.

[IMG] if im out with friends im too focused on the conversation and for me it waters down how much I enjoy having a beer. I also don't enjoy people who can't handle alcohol getting sloppy so again not relaxing for me.
To me beer is a reward after a long day so most of the time its more enjoyable while cooking or just hanging out with the dog. He can handle his booze and doesn't count how many I've had.

Depends on my mood. I normally enjoy doing many things in life alone, including drinking, but then there are times when I do like the company of a good friend while downing a beer or two.

I prefer drinking at home. Now that means alone. Me and my friends don't really hang out at someone's house anymore. As senior citizens, no one wants to drive, especially at night. I also miss having my wife as designated driver.

Most of the time I drink alone, but i got the virtual bar where im not alone. Occasionally I'll have a beer or 2 with a friend or the Mrs. I tend to listen to music and smoke weed/stogie while I enjoy a good beer. That's pure bliss for me.

I don't like drinking around big crowds. I pick quite areas when I go to a brewery where I can people watch in peace. I also tend to avoid smaller taprooms during busy hours.

If beer is your best friend, then you are never alone when you are with Beer.

I always include some logo glassware and some Iowa-made jerky or jam whenever I ship a box of beer. That way I can tell the clerk that it's food and glassware. I may be a bootlegger, but I'm not a liar.

The bars are all sports puke and crappy old top 40 music. Alone is good. As opposed to being in BABY DOLLS drinking Coors Light buried in cute girls.

I did all that and at 70 I've got my own beer fridge in my SIM ROOM where I drink beer alone.

I do agree the overall sentiment that if reviewing/rating to fully appreciate and evaluate a beer it's probably best alone. But for enjoying a beer and drinks then with friends it is.

The best world would be to drink with BeerAdvocate's friends, be serious for a while, and have fun after...

I used to have headphones on, listening to music and such while exercising, but I've switched to running without headphones and it's been a transformative experience.

There’s an old saying about silence being golden. I used to think that was just an empty cliché but I’ve since realized it holds a deeper truth. I absolutely love all kinds of music but sometimes I just need some peace and quiet to reset and re-center.

I've spent most of my legal drinking age drinking alone. A large portion of that time was drinking alone or drinking around people who didn't drink for various reasons. It wasn't until about five years or so ago that I was able to drink with like-minded people. And in many ways, I influenced them to try new and better beers, not the other way around.

Do I have a preference? Depends. My preference depends on the environment.

If I'm drinking alone in my room, I'm usually analyzing the beer on its own, writing notes and spending a fair amount of time ruminating over the beer, learning about it, the brewery and the style and how it compares to other offerings I've had, and so on, on top of just enjoying the beer.

If I'm drinking with others at home, we might be doing a similar thing but there is conversation going on about it. I usually save special and high ABV beers for occasions like this. I tend to save certain big stouts for when I have one particular friend over because her extensive baking background and broader food interests can lend really interesting insights into the beer that I may not have picked up on my own.

If I'm drinking at a brewery, the beer is much more secondary to the company I'm with. The more communal aspect of drinking comes into play. Maybe I'll just order something I've had before because I know I enjoy it. Maybe I order something I haven't had before but I've got already waiting for me at home or will purchase to-go, with a plan to drink solo. Maybe I'm having food which may or may not alter my opinion of the beer. Maybe we're jumping to a couple of breweries and I pick something solely based on alcohol content. Who knows. What I do know is I'm not buried in my phone, ticking beers or trying to analyze and rate them, when I have a human being I want to spend time with right in front of me.

I like it but at almost 60 \have found it very destructive. I am not a loner but never one to gain attention.
I was OK in my twenties in Scottish pubs..just sit back and enjoy then uproar. Moved to Atlanta and found this was not the thing. Was a good husband and never went out to drink.
Up here in Oregon. Second wife same thing //bars were filthy places for bad people. Yet i loved beer and persuaded her McMenamins wasn't so bad. She enjoyed.
Long story short i do not enjoy drinking alone. I don't need someone sitting right beside me but i enjoy the murmur of peeps nearby. And no freaks at the lottery machine do not count. Like restaurants i will not enter if empty. Bars the same

Drinking alone is kind of my thing. Drinking with company usually implies it is happening at a bar or brewery...and I don't like to drink and drive. Plus, having to deal with all the crappy conversations. Yeah, definitely not for me, no....
