God, I love Orval. Enjoyed alongside a Gram Parsons classic.

There’s a world of difference between fresh Pannepot and aged Pannepot. There is something to be said for both. Not to mention some other variations. My understanding is that the tap room should be listed as a must on a visit to Belgium. I haven’t made it there yet.

I found this beer to be very easy drinking, tasty, and it has a very nice Noble hop expression. Would probly love it on tap. Kerel Saison.

    Here we go!
I had planned on something dark today but due to the warm weather here I grabbed a selection of Tripels on my way home. I’m really starting to crave the Belgian styles.
And I’m blaming all of you.
    Cheers and Happy Friday.

I've been on a classic beer kick lately, Belgian and otherwise. Westmalle Dubbel certainly fits the bill. Paired with Joni's first album...not her best, but a strong start nonetheless.

Hmm, good to know. I have 2 other variants waiting for me in the cellar but both (I believe) are around 2 years old

Another new to me Tripel. Drinks as advertised, Belgian yeast, honey and orange. The orange is coming off more as candied orange than sweet pulp or bitter zest. Rather enjoyable, and to me is drinking a bit smaller than 10%.

Lupulin Unholy Confessions Rum BA Quad, 14.4% ABV. Pours dark brown, with a 1.5 finger beige head that left some lacing. Aroma is light rum and malt. Taste is rum, spice, roast malt, lightly sweet, slightly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I like quads and I like RBA beers, so was expecting more here. It's sure got quite a kick.

This is an unfortunate selection. The yeast sediment was unexpected from the last ounce. Astringency beginning to end. It seems to miss the mark on every point. Oh well, it’s still beer and I’ll finish it in the fourth quarter.

    Yay, Belgian beers...

La Chouffe and a big pot of mussels, that are excellent, at Cafe Brussels, for lunch this afternoon. One of my favorite spots in town, and I have posted about this place in several other threads that run around here. Been open for over 40 year, run by the same family that moved to Houston from Brussels. La Chouffe, St. Bernardus, Chimay, even Duvel on tap. I always come here for Orval Day as well.

One I enjoyed in Augustish last year. It may have warmed up too much bc this one is better. It's weird I can't think of anything appetizing to compare their smells to, so plastic it is. The flavor of this one is grassy, musty, grapey, acidic. And it's really going straight to my head.

Meant to post this after-dinner treat last night but I ran out of steam.
Good balance of rich malt, opening sweetness and dryness on the back. It was the one beer I drank yesterday so I was a bit sad that it drank much faster than expected.

Clear and yet very dark brown body, opaque in the glass; head pours out fizzy but stabilizes to nice 1 1/2 finger thick head, light khaki colored. Fantastic aroma of brown and candi sugars; brownies; roasted nuts; mildly perky spiciness augments all the other smells. Stupendous flavors; deep caramel and nougat notes; honey; brown sugar; a bit of boozy undertone; no real bitterness per se, more of a phenol bite.

I never expected to have this beer, yet here it is. The depth and complexity is outstanding. More tones and nuances emerge as the beer warms up such as roasted nuts and chocolate. This is a truly outstanding beer based solely on the taste, a masterful bit of brewing art.

    Pouring temperature: 52 °F; bottling info: 04.12.22

Sounds interesting! I have enjoyed the barrel-aged quads that I've had, but doesn't seem like many breweries are cranking them out.

Oerbier, a FANTASTIC brown ale from De Dolle. Brown sugar, hints of tart strawberry & a pleasantly boozy finish. Lovely!

Always a great beer, but I also love the excuse to use that lovely glass!
