We are in Orlando for a week to warm up and enjoy the area. Tracked down a good bottle shop in the area and picked up some new brews for the week. Today's new brew review is Great Notion Double Stack:

    4.34/5 rDev -3.6%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Picked up a 16 oz single from GB's Bottle Shop in Orlando 1-27-24 i think for $8.99. No canning date; consumed 1-27-24.

Beer poured black with a very nice tan head.

Nose is very nice with a beautiful combination of coffee and maple.

Taste is very well done as a large malt base gives notes of mild roast and a touch of chocolate. The coffee and maple adjuncts are woven in very well. Finishes just a tad sweet but definitely not cloying.

Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied and very smooth.

Overall a delicious brew, glad i was able to give it a try!

Alright Mr @snaotheus this didn’t take long…this is my finally beer from our latest cross country exchange. This one is a helles bock, you’re single-handedly responsible for most of my helles bocks I believe. Mrs Phisher took the first sip and said “ahh tastes like college,” it’s a running joke cause she says that about every lager I have her try. I think it substantially more complex than good old natty light though…

Pours gold with some copper undertones, really nice white head with very good retention and lacing.

Nose is a little bland, stale dried lightly toasty bread, light noble hops.

Taste is nicely bready, lightly toasted and crust like; hops have a mostly grassy character, light herbal astringency on the finish, some honey like sweetness.

Firmly medium body; filling beer but it drinks smooth, very clean on the finish with some good light bitterness to cut any malt sweetness, really good drinking beer.

Looking forward to all your beers tonight and hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with you all. Thanks for broadening my horizons Ryan, always fun to exchange shots.

Does it help any to know you are not alone in this boat? I've got a few that I've had for longer than the brewery was in existence.

@snaotheus , I am glad your friend is on the road to recovery. Thank you for the update!

Thanks for consoling. I like to think there are so many great beers out there, we like to enjoy more than we could/should. I dropped down to a beer a day at home, so it's taking longer. but I am making progress from the 453 when I first took count in January 2021. Still need to pick up the pace and limit purchases to new beer singles for this thread and out of town trips until I get around 100 where I'll likely stay (48 cellar appropriate, 48 fresh for variety).

Thick, black oily looking pour 1/8" dark brown head thats gone instantly, nice oily residue on the glass. Roasted malts, dark chocolate and booze for the nose, taste buds get also. Smooth, creamy texture coats the mouth. Terrific beer, actually its one of the best BA Stouts I've ever had.

Thanks to @Victory_Sabre1973 for kicking things off. My first new beer this weekend is from @DIM as part of a recent barleywine trade. Reflections of Reality from Forest & Main brewing in PA. Barleywine aged for 11 months in Heaven Hill barrels. Comes in at 12% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a dark brown with a bit of off-white head. The nose is amazing! Full of malts, bourbon-soaked toffee, figs, plums, vanilla, slight graham cracker.

The taste is outstanding. Loads of toffee right away! A touch of leather, oak, plum, pear, fig, bread, honey, and bourbon. This is not harsh at all, nor is it boozy. Mild sweetness. Just a perfect balance of flavors right here.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with an aftertaste of bourbon and toffee. Overall a wonderful beer! Thanks, Dan!!

So I went beer shopping today and one of the ones that caught my eye that wasn’t a stout was an Upper Hand Black IPL.
Not sure if I have ever seen a “Black IPL” before, I see very few IPLs in general. So of course I wanted to try it.
Poured the color of iced tea and never actually looked black, more like a brown ale. The lacing from the beige head was regular and consistent.
The aroma, what little I could get with my messed up nose, was that of a very mild IPA.
The taste started curiously, like a farm beer that was trying to be a WC IPA. Little pine, little vegetable taste, and a little spice, white pepper maybe? But that was just the first couple of sips, it settled down to a fairly good IPA flavor with a solid base of biscuit like malts.
The feel was curiously absent of carbonation, though the lacing begged to differ. It was pleasant and very quaffable, I could see pounding a 6 pack with few problems.
OA, interesting and tasty. Good combination.
    Added to the database.

Joy and I are having company for dinner, so a quick one for me. I have no idea how a Weldwerk’s beer showed up at my local, but when I saw it and saw that it was pretty fresh (canned 12/15/23), I grabbed it and ran like I was stealing it.

Pours a hazy straw color with a sudsy, foamy white head that provides a decent amount lacing. Beautiful hazy. The nose is dank citrus (mango, ripe orange, grapefruit) and stone fruit (peach, apricot) that is mouthwatering.

The mango and orange flavors are forward and really nice, but this beer is all about the peach and apricot flavors, which are followed by some melon, which makes for a really flavorful and quaffable beer. So good.

The mouthfeel is a bit more ….. prickly than I normally experience with hazies, but it works well with this beer. I need more Weldwerks in my beer nerd life.

    Troegs - Nugget Nectar

12oz bottle served in a footed pilsner glass. Bottle says "Freshest by 042624."

Pours clear dark amber, big fluffy head that settles fairly quickly into a thick, dense skin, clinging to the glass in thick webby lacing a good inch and a half above the surface. Smell is pine and citrus hops with a background of toffee and earthy bitter.

Taste is following the promising nose very nicely. Toffee, light biscuit, earthiness come forward a little bit. Toffee sweetness is definitely there. Pine and citrus are clearly there, balancing nicely with everything else.

Mouthfeel is light, clean, and dry. Overall, this is really nice, lots going on, very well-balanced.

This increases my desire to try try the double version!

It's funny, I've been thinking for the last couple weeks that I never get a chance to use my big glasses, and you read my mind!

Already gone? Maybe I need to take another trip to Chuck's. I gotta go somewhere to pick up Ten Fidy, Old Rasputin, and Narwhal for the blind tasting I was recently inspired to do...

    Thanks guys.

Joining @Beersnake1 with Reflections of Reality from Forest and Main. I find this label art... unsettling somehow. The eyes on that little girl in particular are just very disturbing.

It isn't pretty with a muddy light brown body and amber at the edges. Nice lacing as the head recedes though.

There is a lot going on here, butterscotch and spiced fig cakes come to mind immediately. There is also some tobacco, sweet roasted nuts, toffee, sugary pears, and other fruits. The barrels add light oak, plenty of vanilla, and a wonderful bourbon blanket covering everything. The body is smooth and silky. Good stuff, this is disappearing quickly. Ditch the fancy wax bottles and I'd buy some packs for sure.

Next up is S'more Blanket from Radiant and Firestone. Stout brewed with marshmallows, graham cracker, cacao nibs, and vanilla beans. 9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours pitch black with light brown head. Nose is milk chocolate, graham cracker, marshmallow, vanilla, and slight maple.

The taste is nice. Sweet and definitely a pastry stout! Graham cracker pops immediately. Marshmallow (slightly burnt), vanilla, maple, chocolate, hazelnuts, and dark bread.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Aftertaste is smooth chocolate.

Lupulin Unholy Confessions Rum BA Quad, 14.4% ABV. Pours dark brown, with a 1.5 finger beige head that left some lacing. Aroma is light rum and malt. Taste is rum, spice, roast malt, lightly sweet, slightly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I like quads and I like RBA beers, so was expecting more here. It's sure got quite a kick.

Dense, vinous, ink black pour; no head; lots of yeast protein floaters sitting atop the beer. Rich, dark aroma; deeply roasted grains; subdued bourbon undercurrent. Thick milk chocolate flavor with hints of vanilla sweetness and a sublime bourbon presence. Heavy body with chunky bits of yeast / protein on the palate; they liquefy quickly yet certainly distract from the mouthfeel; delicate boozy warmth.

A rather bland appearance and no noticeable coffee or vanilla bean scents don't bode well for first impressions. The melt-in-your-mouth floaters don't help with the mouthfeel aspects either. Chunky beer (even if the chunks taste fine) just doesn't cut it. And these aspects are a shame, because the taste is phenomenal. I wrestled with some of the aspect scores, and if based solely on the taste, this would border on a world class beer. But, with appearance, smell, and mouthfeel deficiencies, this beer falls short of overall greatness.
