Updates: January 2024

    I spent most of this month thinking about upgrading BeerAdvocate, specifically the forums. It's long overdue. February will be spent mapping out the final plan of attack, but I'm stoked to announce that we're making progress toward finally making this happen.

    Once the forum upgrade is complete, I'll turn my focus the rest of the site (everything outside of `/community/` is custom legacy code), new features, and some large projects that'll help take BeerAdvocate to the next level.

    In the meantime, here's a quick roundup of updates applied in January...

    Navigation
    • Added a sublinks bar under the selected tab to help with discoverability and save some clicks.
      • Persistent / sticks on scroll
      • Background is dark gray on desktop; black on mobile
      • If some links seem hidden on mobile, you'll find them by tapping "..."
    • Log in and Sign up have been condensed to single link with an icon for better usability.
    • Adjusted some colors to better match the theme.
    Forum & Thread Lists
    BeerAdvocate Talk
    • Consolidated some previously separated forums into a single BeerAdvocate Talk forum for ease of use.
    • Applied Blog (posts from me), Help, Ideas, and Talk prefixes to help identify thread types.
    • Adjusted where prefixes are applied on the page (default placements were an eyesore)
    • Added an in-line prefix filter just above the list of threads.
    Pooh-Bahs
    • Are once again awarded a Society membership. Huzzah!
    • Rebuilt the Society upgrade / user group promotion to allow the above to happen.
    Mods
    • @shigg85 (Japan) has joined the team as a Super Mod.
    • @Shanex (France) has offered to extend his Regional Mod tasks to cover all of Europe.
    • @el_bobbo (Massachusetts) officially joined the team as a Regional Mod for New England.

    Thanks to @Todd for the mention and making my Mod jurisdiction outside of just the French forum, figured with our site Founder that I’d be of better help covering all of Europe which is something other supermod/forum mods can do too.

    As for Napoleon, I’ve got to say for a short Corsican guy that was bullied at school he did achieve some things. Basically penned some of the French institution still alive today but also much more despicable things like implementing slavery again and shortly put turning continental Europe into a giant cemetery.
