There's probably some truth to that for pale beers, but I'm not so sure there's much truth in it for dark beers.

IMO: Many factors attribute to the quality of lacing. Some styles produce little to no head. Then there is the cleanliness of the glass to consider. I have found speed of consumption also has an impact. While there may be a correlation between the two, I think it is more happenstance. Besides, you will likely be able to judge the quality via aroma and flavor before the lacing forms. For me, lacing is something to appreciate independent of the quality of the beer that produces it. After all, how many great artists are great people? (Ok, that last sentence is a bit harsh )

I like to think of lacing as attention to detail, which to me is usually a sign of a good beer. As stated above style does matter, but to me the only style that should lack lacing and retention are those high abv monster stouts.

Then again lacing also depends on pour too and how quick you drink the beer...either way I've always put a lot of stock in appearance. We're shallow us humans, we drink with our eyes first

I definitely tend to notice better lacing on "better" beers, but it's not linear

I kind of agree. Lacing be it thin, thick, sheeted or webbed doesn't reflect the overall quality of any beer. Lots of variables (see above quote). In fact a good control would be pouring 2 of the same beers in 2 different glasses (a Becher vs a tall Lager glass). The results will be different. Some beers, even poured slowly or with multiple pours, may in fact have a massive head but then leave little to no lacing. When I use a nucleated shaker pint glass the etching usually helps to create a bit more lacing, but again it all depends on the beer itself, how it's poured, and the temperature of the beer is important to consider as well.

Really enjoyed this 1. Will show it off some more. This left nice lacing and retained a nice thin head head all the way through.

I love the artwork! Reminds me of the posters for the movies my parents would go out to see in the 1960s.

Out of curiosity I looked up their web site. Very nice layout, art and photos. There are a lot talented people in this industry.

    Nice lacing too.
