I turned 21 not too long ago in October of 23. Since then, I have tried several different beers. I have found that so far my favorites include Yuengling Flight, Sapporo Premium, regular Blue Moon, Stella Artois, and Coors Light. Some beers I have found that I personally do not care for are stouts, porters, and IPAs/hoppy beers, but I have not had as many of those, so there may be some of that category that I might like. I have only had Deschutes Obsidian Stout for stouts, the Yuengling Hershey for porters, and West Sixth IPA and Fosters for hoppy beer/IPAs. One beer that I have purchased today, but not tried yet is Reissdorf Kölsch. I really look forward to exploring the beer world in the future and being a part of this forum.
Welcome aboard! Plenty of forums and threads to help you in your new journey. You might not enjoy all the styles now, or ever, but it doesn't hurt to keep trying! Check out the What Beer Are You Drinking Now (WBAYDN) daily thread and the New Beer Weekend (NBW) weekly thread for inspiration and communication with fellow BA's on what to try or what may be up your alley!
Welcome to BeerAdvocate. As Beerjerk mentioned, there is much to explore here. Under Forums you will find general beer topics and Regional topics, as well as beer related interests, and Off Topics. And Places can be helpful for finding new real world adventures. You will notice a heavy presence of craft beers, so don’t let that discourage you from joining in the conversation. Most folks are good natured. As for your personal tastes you may find them shifting with time, so go with the flow. It’s all about the journey. Prost! And if you enjoy this place enough, then consider joining the “Society.” At a buck a month you get additional content and the advertisements go away.
@RRSniper Welcome to the BA site. You've definitely found the right place to learn a lot about beers. Your tastes will likely change over time, so if you try a style and don't like it, don't give up on it. Besides your changing tastes, it could be that your first attempt was a bad example of that particular style (not all breweries brew good beer, especially the smaller and newer ones) and the next one will be better. In the IPA style there are so many different flavors from so many hop varieties, you'll have to discover which hops you like (or dislike) in order to enjoy that style. But don't give up. Explore the site to discover all of the features here. Enjoy your beer journey.
Hi @RRSniper , welcome to Beer Advocate! Hope you enjoy Reissdorf Kölsch, a solid beer which is always on tap at The Silver Stamp in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition to the great suggestions above, just want to shout out to the regional forums, including Kentucky hosted in the South Folder. You can have great conversations about local beers and best options in terms of breweries, beer bars and craft stores in your area, or hit other folders if you are planning a trip. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/forums/south.63/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/kentucky-2024.675636/ Also, perhaps consider giving styles you don't like now another chance down the road. It makes sense you don't like Deschutes Obsidian Stout considering it is hoppy and perhaps more bitter compared to other stouts, and you don't like IPAs (possibly because of aggressive hops or bitterness). Hope you enjoy your time here, and your journey exploring beers!
