Beer Abbreviations

Snappy - Sierra Nevada American Pale Ale, because Snapa doesn’t sound as cool.

 

Shall we make this even more specific? There is also a distinction between an Acronym and an Initialism. The difference is whether you pronounce the initials as individual letters or as a word, phonetically.

For example KBS is an Initialism and not an acronym as it is pronounced Kay - Bee - Es.

NASA would be an acronym, as it's pronounced as its own word: Nah-Sah, and not En-Ay-Es-Ay.

So most of what we have referred to above as Acronyms, are actually Initialisms.

 

I like the idea of someone trading SNPA for KBBS

Or just call it a Pastry Stout. Much more efficient.

 

I don't even try to keep up in the Trade forums. I used to.

 

Not an abbreviation. Not an acronym. But I want to claw my eyes out every time I see someone refer to an "Impy Stout" on this forum.

I haven’t traded in a long time but when I first looked at the forum I was so confused with half the beers people were trading.
