Are there too many "appreciation" threads?

I like the ones that are for styles that you don't see as often/have niche appeal. A good way for folks to learn about beers they might not know about.

I see no reason for the Imperial Stout thread, those are everywhere. I see no reason for the Hamm's thread. It's one single beer, write a review.

 

Pretty much anything that does not pop up on the front page I dont see. I enjoy most of these threads and there has been some real good Info in the Hamms thread. I am quite behind in the BW and Stout thread but I will catch up. Any beer related thread is fine by me, don’t click if you’re not interested, same as real life.

Again, guys, whatever you think about the "appreciation" threads that discussion has nothing to do with the stout thread. That thread is very clearly for discussions on the essence of life. It's clearly labeled as such. Same with the saison thread, clearly a place to salute the more refined things in this realm.

 

Here’s all I will say, and I’m not reading this entire thread to see if anyone else has made this point already. Because of the nature of these beer appreciation threads, they do tend to stay near the top of the first page (as does WBAYDN). So that has the effect of pushing other less active threads down. For that reason it would make sense to me to create a separate forum/area for these threads that people who want to watch/post to them can opt in to, without having them take up so much real estate in Beer Talk. It seems some diversity of discussion topics is being compromised by having the beer appreciation threads in Beer Talk.

 

I say, the people have spoken. Leave it as is.....

 

Well hold on there a minute. By my count we currently have more than half of voters saying either get rid of them or move them elsewhere. The way I see it, the people have spoken, but maybe not in the way it’s being perceived.

I would appreciate the appreciation threads if they stuck with styles that were truly under appreciated.

 

It’s too late now—but I would have preferred two options in the poll:

• Change nothing: leave the beer appreciation threads in Beer Talk
• Change something: either set up a separate “beer appreciation thread” forum that people can choose to follow/watch if they want to, or end the practice of having these threads altogether

Given those two choices, the results would be much closer.

 

• The pets with a beer thread is good clean fun. I personally don't see the point in having a pet that isn't a hound or bully breed dog, but some of the cats are cute, and the lizards are interesting.
• Doesn't bother me that there is an imperial stout thread, I just don't see the need for it. Imperial stouts are all over the place.
• Is Hamm's really that good? I've personally never had it, but even the best AALs I've had aren't worth that much spilled ink.

If it's over 11%, FG of over 1.030, and has anything in it other than grain, sugar, hops, water, yeast, and maybe brewer's licorice, yes, yes I do. I like beer, not boozy starbucks drinks.
