No offense intended, but I honestly am not interested in 95% of what gets posted here these days, so I’m agnostic about appreciation threads. Probably a function of being here a long time, but I feel like most topics have been beat to death at this point, or at least have ceased to be of interest to me personally. I’m not particularly enthralled with a discussion of, “I like stouts”, “OMG me too!” but if others are, let them have their fun.

At this point, I check BA periodically to see if anything new is happening in my neck of the woods, and I’m always up for a kids vs dogs at breweries dumpster fire thread. That shit absolutely never gets old.

No, but all the meaningless cross-posting does.

There's no way of typing 'whoring for likes' that doesn't sound petty and spiteful.

Is there a way to separate out the appreciation threads so they appear in separate section of the home page? On a desktop, there's a column for the "Join the Discussion" threads which is a combo of several of the "Main" forums. What if there was a separate column on the homepage to the right of that that was only the appreciation threads? That way it'd all be on the home page. Not sure what to do with "Trending Beers"...maybe move it down the page? And also not sure how all this works out on a mobile device...

But if you're going to nix them all, do it after the Hamms Appreciation thread eclipses the Imperial Stout one as the biggest, which should be sometime this weekend :stuck_out_tongue::rofl:

Isn't not have an appreciation thread for a beer in essence the same as a depreciation thread. 0<1 ?

The watched forum and watched threads options are handy for those who do not wish to see things by popularity or simply want to focus on one’s own interests.

@Todd is working on the site, so perhaps feature changes will be available in the future.

I'm reading all of the feedback in this thread. Mods are giving me feedback too. I haven't made any decisions yet, but will definitely take all sides into consideration before doing anything. I've got some ideas too.

The Watched Threads option is my landing point so I don’t see the site the way one who just hits Beer Talk or Home does.

What do other sites do for showing appreciation? Maybe BA could just adopt the OnlyFans model and users could send tips to their favorite styles?

There is obviously like hunting on most sites nowadays. But, i find that some people in wbaydn aren't in nbw and vice versa. For most it seems its a social thing and a
bout sharing beer, food, music and more.
Im not sure though how someone posting In 2 places actually affects your enjoyment to a large degree.

Is it easier to set things up to follow/track threads/forums you are interested in or ignore those that you aren’t interested in? That would seem to be a driving factor in what kinds of changes are made, if any.

I should add, I’m not opposed to these threads and I’ve posted in several of them. But maybe following specific style appreciation threads (which I believe we can do currently) would be useful too. For example, if there was a faro appreciation thread I would not follow it, because I believe the only time I tried a faro-style beer it tasted like that little bit of stomach acid in the back of your throat when you almost throw up.

I choose to use Forum > Watched Threads simply because I find it works for how I want to use BA. I prefer this method because it’s passive: I don’t have to mark a thread to be ignored. Whatever floats your boat. Cheers.

I agree. So wouldn’t that mean that moving more threads like the “beer appreciation” threads out of Beer Talk would work better? People could choose to follow individual threads or the entire “beer appreciation” forum while leaving Beer Talk (and particularly the first page of it) more free for a broader range of beer-related topics? That seems like a pretty happy compromise to me.

How about @Todd and all the moderators meet virtually to settle this, then lower the boom on their decision? The poll is there for consideration....

Maybe but I would have preferred a poll answer of “probably too many but it does not bother me and is fine the way it is.”

I think it makes sense to put in the "Interests" section. The thread is supposed to discuss one's appreciation of that style, right? Why they appreciate. How are they appreciating it at this moment (by drinking it, taking a class on it, brewing it) ... things that interest them about the style they are talking about and not just a sub-category of WBAYDN. I guess what I'm saying is that it's more discussion -based.

By contrast, Cellaruary and NBW is a sub-category of WBAYDN. Post the beer, some comments to help others who might have the same in their cellar or want to try that new beer next, and on to the next on. The focus is the specific beer posted, not necessarily a back and forth discussion.

Anywho....those are my two sips on the topic.

I have no opinion on where they live because I don’t see the overall listing very often and I participate in popular threads like WBAYDN and Imperial Stout Forever (or whatever @Resistance88 named it) that tend to float up.

If threads could be tagged and one could follow tags, then that would be nice then I could just watch a tag(s) (Eg stout). Cheers.

I know literally nothing about tagging—but maybe this discussion should be considered in conjunction with the Filter by region thread that goes into detail on that subject.

Appreciation threads are like any other threads. If you are disinterested move on to read some other thread. If interested, click on the thread and read it (and post if you like).

Really no need to place them in a 'separate' section.

    Cheers!
