Can someone please get this man a Dark Lord Greatest Teachable Moments! Or maybe a good old fashioned Turtledogging is in order?

To say it’s the worst barrel aged stout you’ve ever had is one (weird) thing. To say it’s the worst barrel aged stout ever brewed is just preposterous. I mean you said people have been liking it, correct? So how could that be.

I don’t go on twitter because of shit like this. Now we have to read it here? And in the Central Waters thread of all places? Come on.

I did go too far when I said Twenty Six is the worst barrel-aged stout ever brewed. I meant it is the barrel-aged stout I appreciate the least, of all the barrel-aged stouts I have tried. I typed that after drinking a few of the barrel-aged barleywines that were released on Saturday. It was probably not best to add to the discussion at that moment.

    Micah,

I’ve read at least a hundred of your stout reviews in NBS / NBW over the years, and seen you enjoy dozens more in person. You definitely know your way around BBA stouts.

When you say 26 is one of the worst barrel aged stouts, I know not to touch it with a ten foot pole, especially knowing you typically like to love most of their BA releases and have proclaimed CW to have the best barrel program in Wisconsin (which is fair, though 3 Sheeps deserves consideration). Really grateful you steered several BAs to pick up the awesome 25 variants last year. Still think Black Gold was/is the GOAT, but the 25 barrel variants definitely awesome as well.

You’re not posting this to troll or start drama, but to give an honest opinion and give others a fair warning to at least sample this before plopping down good money for bottles that may not work out. People should let others post their honest assessments, and I appreciate you taking the time and effort to post your experience.

For all the Central Waters FUPA Godz eviscerating @GreenBayBA -- at least he didn't call it thin. That usually twists your panties in a bunch.

I think drunken hot takes should absolutely be valued here. Otherwise I'd have like 5 posts.

Lol I'm going to think of this exact post next time Revolution drops a Very Speshul $50 4 pack.

I mean, basically $25 for a bomber of an extended BA high gravity beer is an excellent price, and not too far out of line with some CW bombers.

$25 actually was the price for the 25 variant bombers. The question that popped in my head when CW started dropping these extended age barleywines was how can they hold onto barrels for 5 years and get away with selling it for only $20/4 pack. Then Lakefront dropped their own 5 year barleywine and theirs was $20 for a 6 pack. I'm not going to argue anything regarding quality because these beers are all pretty damn good and I think after having all 3 I would choose a different favorite any day of the week, but tell me again why Rev needs to sell theirs for $50?

Same reason why Wendy’s is testing surge pricing- because they want to extract every last cent of profit they possibly can. It comes down to does a consumer feel like they are getting their moneys worth and what are the alternatives? For me, Rev’s pricing is silly outrageous, but I am not often disappointed whereas a cheaper offering may be a drain poor. By the same token, it is painful to spend $50 when the offerings you mentioned or $5 BCBS bottles or Three Floyd’s 4 packs of barrel aged stouts are all much cheaper par offerings.

The 25th Anniversary beer & variants were almost universally superb. One of the best series with the same base I've ever had.

Since there is not much action on this thread, I might as well add that Twenty Six J. Henry Barrel was also not one of my favorite beers, but I have gone through an unnecessary amount of French Toast Stout, since it was released. Maple flavor can be easy to miscalculate with, but French Toast Stout dials it in perfectly.
