If this was a beer made by a craft brewery the score would be much higher. There is a bias to AAL when it’s a mega brewery beer but when labeled craft it suddenly becomes a good beer. Of those 1700 reviews, how many are just rating very low only because it’s AAL and nothing else? How many never even had the beer but just are bashing AAL?

    Enjoy

Some of a certain age are gonna hate me for this. I can't stop humming it, so now you too shall join in the ark of the ache of it:
    (Drumbeat tap tap tap)
"From the land of pines, lofty balsams,
    comes the beer refreshing,
    Hamm's!
    The beer refreshing!
    Hamm's! "

Sorry 'bout that, but you guys started it, lol

No chance the "craft" could actually be a better brewed beer?

I looked back at notes. Three Solid Golds were left at my house. My take was clean almost no smell , maybe a tick above High Life but for the HUGE $ difference it’s a high priced mass produced AAL.

For my money I buy mostly High Life bottles and Hamms.

    Enjoy

Back in 2018 I conducted a side-by-side tasting of Founders Solid Gold and Hamm's:

    Overall:

Founders Solid Gold: On the plus side this beer has a notable hop aroma/flavor to it. On the non-plus side the aroma/flavors that is there does not exactly hit my palate’s ‘sweet spot’.

Hamm’s: A very cleanly brewed AAL beer with a light, pleasant grainy flavor.

I do not typically bring up economics here but since we are discussing AAL beers, and these beers are typically economically priced I figured I would mention:

    · The Founders Solid Gold (12 ounce cans) was priced at $8.99

    · I purchased the single can of Hamm’s (16 ounce can) for $1.00. I suspect that the 6-pack price for these 16 ounce cans would be less than 6 bucks.

Everybody will have their own viewpoint when it comes to price but it seems to me that the Founders Solid Gold is priced a bit too high.

If I was at a neighbor’s Picnic party and the three beers available to drink were Hamm’s, Founders Solid Gold and Bud Light my selection in order would be:

    1. Hamm’s
    2. Founders Solid Gold
    3. Water

Solid Gold made its debut out here on the West Coast when the brand was launched. I bought it one or two times and thought it was fine. I can no longer find it on Founder's beer finder in my area. It would seem that beer drinkers in my area did not see it as a good value.

I will add that FW Lager disappeared from our market. Now looking at FW beer finder I cannot see a listing for FW Lager. I guess we're too dumb to appreciate better craft lagers which is a shame.

Is Pivo Pils readily available to you?

When they first reintroduced this beer in 2022 I was able to find this beer in fresh condition and I purchased a six-pack but just a few months later I was unable to find this beer fresh. In the last year I simply stopped looking for this beer since it seems to only be available old.

    Cheers!

Pivo was mentioned in this or another related thread so I recently took a look at the FW beer finder. It is available but I have to drive a minimum of 10 miles so I guess that explains why I have not been seeing it. I was able to try some after the rerelease a year or two back. I should track some down.

Checking again it now appears to be available at the nearest WFs which is about 2 miles away. Pivo, you will be mine.

I have no idea, but I'm also not sure why you feel there's a bias against AALs. What evidence do you have of that? Maybe the reviewers gave it a poor score because... wait for it.... they honestly and truly thought it wasn't a very good beer. That seems to to be the usual reason a beer gets a low score on BA.

You're of course entitled to your opinion, but all I'm reading in your post is speculation and conjecture. Personally, I don't find it very convincing.

I hope that you have better luck than me and can find it in fresh condition.

For whatever reason, Founders doesn't seem to do well here in the PNW. That being said, there are/were a couple of exceptions. Their all day IPA and Founders gold seemed to sell pretty well (based on anecdotal evidence). You can still find the IPA all over town, but for some reason it appears the gold is no longer distributed out here. Have no idea why.

And lagers are pretty popular out here right now

Founders is a sponsor of Spanish language soccer on ESPN Deportes. Kind of makes sense since the major owner is Mahou San Miguel. (ESPN withholds the English broadcasts for their extra-extra cost outlet).

Good thing you got it fresh. Flavor falls off a cliff at about six weeks lol. Cheers!

Seriously though, does anyone know how long between canning and best by date for Hamms?

Good to see you back posting, Sir-hope you are well. I think only the best by is listed on the packaging and can. Not sure how long that is from the canning date.
