Just a bit of a general question to the other Texas folk on the board that seems too specific for the 2023 Bock thread: has anyone had any luck finding Hofbrau Maibock in the state?

I've tried reaching out to the importer directly and gotten no response/the beer finder doesn't show it anywhere in the major metros.

I don't think I have seen Hofbrau or Ayinger Maibock around me in Houston. Would love to come across both though.

It’s been several years since I’ve seen it available around San Antonio. Last time I found it was during the start of Covid, and a tiny beer store in New Braunfels somehow received a few packs.

I kind of assumed the state in general just isn't getting the Hofbrau anymore but I think this confirms it. Super unfortunate as maibocks are one of my absolute favorite styles.

I actually checked with Merchant du Vin in March about the Ayinger Maibock and apparently Texas is going to be keg-only until 2025. I've had luck finding it on draft up here in DFW but seems like we're out of luck through next year for the bottles.

Not to put new life into an old thread for no reason but I figured it'd be of interest: we have Ayinger Maibock bottles in DFW as of today, they just arrived last week. It appears they moved up their introduction in Texas markets so be on the lookout.

A couple of weeks ago, I specifically went on a trip to the Downtown/Mid-Town Specs in Houston to get Ayinger Maibock, cause their website said they had 4 packs. I get there, and of course they don't have any. Over the weekend I found some at Premium Draught (bottles and growler fills). Of course Johnny would get it ha. If anybody in Houston is looking for it, check out Premium.

I found the Ayinger Maibock at Total Wine in San Antonio. I couldn’t believe my eyes at first as we never seem to get any Maibock since Hofbrau quit showing up. I grabbed several four packs!!

Which Total Wine? I’m headed that way this weekend.

Thanks. Visiting nephew in Shertz ….on Sunday.:confused:

Last time in there my wife bought them out of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout. Pretty good beer selection and found quite a few fresh!

Well, what do you know. I finally found Hofbrau Maibock, on tap at Under The Volcano of all places. Always one of my favorite bars in Houston, and they have always had a fairly decent tap list. I have yet to come across bottles of this anywhere though.

    My review:

Pours a clear amber orange color. A dense white head forms with good retention and lace left behind.
Big bready malts in the nose. Toasted sourdough. like walking into a bakery. Some earthy hops are nice and balance everything out. Very nice.
Taste wise, like the nose, the malts are the show up front. Bready, sourdough like. A honey like sweetness. Though a spicy herbal/earthy hop character is very light but balances in the finish.
A medium body and moderate carbonation. Much like Ayinger, this is a bit thicker than expected for me. Though very clean. Really enjoyable to drink. I can come back to this easily.

Of course this is well made. An excellent example of the style. I'll be looking to get more of this when I can.

Overall score is 4.21, this is great.
