Blithering Idiot from Weyerbacher. English barleywine that comes in at 11.1% ABV. This is my first time trying this one despite knowing about it for at least a decade. Big thanks to @DIM for sending me a bottle!

Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to warm a few degrees before tasting. Pours a nice orange/light brown with minimal head. The nose is full of toffee, bread, malts, apricots, apple, and biscuits.

The taste is super smooth. English malts come through right away. Caramel. Slight bitterness here - comes across as leather. A floral note also emerges - tastes almost like a dandelion smells. Candy sweetness offsets the very slight bitterness. Lovely fruit notes - plums, raisins, and pear. Lovely beer!

Parallax from Single Hill courtesy of @Beersnake thanks Tim! Aged in Westland whiskey barrels.

This is wonderful, adult liquid hard candy in my glass. Lots of caramel and butterscotch with a warming brown liquor backdrop dominate this one. There is some orange candies and raisin in the background. The body is full and lush. So glad I got to try this one thanks again Tim!

Big Bertha Chocolate Caramel Love from Kuhnhenn. A bourbon barrel aged barleywine. This bottle is from 2022. ABV is not listed.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with zero head. The nose is really nice and intense. Bourbon comes across immediately, suggesting a relatively high ABV on this one. It's a mystery! Tons of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. Lovely nose.

The taste is...interesting. Not sure if I'm really into it, but the chocolate is heavy. Seems like a great compliment for a stout, but on a barleywine this seems odd. Some vanilla and tons of salted caramel. Maple syrup, and a strong cough medicine note. It's OK.

Its time for a barleywine! This is Finisher from Third Moon Brewing in Milton, Ontario in Canada. Beer is courtesy of @Coronaeus Thank you!
    ABV is 11.5%

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle of this beer and pouring into my snifter. the beer pours a rich, slightly cloudy mahogany color. A dense beige head of <0.5 cm foams up and fades to a thin edging soon after the pour. I do leave a little dredge in the bottle on the pour.
Aroma is toffee and a bit of brown sugar with fruity figs and some raisin also. Pretty complex and malt driven, with no hop character and not really boozy anywhere. Seems to fit the part of a barleywine.
First sip reveals a medium body and fairly full mouthfeel. Not really sticky and the carbonation is very soft and mild, almost cask-like.
flavor is malt forward with toffee and figs mixing with some more fruit. Plum and raisin here and a little bit of brown sugar coating those fruits. While the beer is sweet it isnt cloying or candy like. Never any hint of hops and the ABV is very well hidden in the beer. no boozy bite and black pepper and no warming heat on the finish.
Im enjoying this Canadian barleywine. Its pretty solid for the style, and Im glad to have tried it.

Still have a good amount of celery beers to pull out even though that thread is over. This is a 2021 bottle. Almost no carbonation, caramel raisin , lots of floaters. Nice beer to drink slow and enjoy.

Listening to the Music with Space show on WPRB and trying to decide if I should spend $76 plus tax on PJ Harvey tickets. I would need two plus train or Uber.

    Enjoy

I just procured a bottle of that myself. I was a little apprehensive, but it was “only” ten bucks. Hope I like it more than you did. :beers:

It was nice to see this locally for me, 1st time in couple years. Seems really sweet, but my taste buds have not been functioning properly. Things I used to enjoy eating/drinking just don't taste right, but I'll choke this one and the remaining three down for the betterment of society.....

I asked @cheeseheadinMinneapolis if he wanted to meet up for a beer or two, and he showed up with a box of barleywines for me that was so big, @Beersnake and @DIM may call the authorities.

Pictures of your Mama taken by your Papa from Grimm. Barleywine aged in apple brandy barrels. 13% ABV. Compliments of @DIM.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a dark brown with zero head and what appears to be zero carbonation.

The nose is quite subtle. Plums, pears, apples, and caramel candy.

The taste is quite interesting. The lack of carbonation makes its quite intense. Apply brandy definitely comes through. Molasses, pears, raisins, maple, and tons of malts. Interesting beer. I think I like this one a bit more than you, Dan!

Best part of this I found one of my favorite glasses that was missing for a few months. Big pillowy head that hangs round all the way down. Quite dry, mild hops not much coming through here. This was a $16 pack I had never seen before so I grabbed it. Dated enjoy by January 2024. Not sure when it was bottled. The bottle I had in December was not great either.

    Enjoy

Oh this is a time machine beer, we were huge junkies for nor-easter. The finest spiced winter lager. Their Friday fest 5 or 10$ to get in for a tour was legendary. Lets not forget the valentines colab with munsons chocolate. We moved from CT 10 years ago. Good times in those days for beer. Ghandi-bot, stout trooper. Old burnside amazing grave was an infected mess. Lots of good and bad beers floating around. I got into homebrewing back then too. It's been 14 years worth. Cheers. Thanks for the memories with this one. I didn't know hooker was trout brook before. We used to visit trout brook valley state park back in the day too. Subaru car club. Fun times.

2024 bigfoot, how much has changed in beer vs this specimen. Not much. It's refreshing to be able to pick this up on a regular basis. I chased beer in the past and traveled far and wide. I hope to not have to chase this as i'm done chasing others that don't seem to satisfy like this. Big pine/resin, floral herbal. I still home brew and feel the need as other subtle styles are long gone. I've made a few barleywines and aged them no less than a year before drinking. Worth the time. I'll add a few different oak chips/cubes and some sugar. Not too much. My heart in in big beers but every day my love is 4% English milds, esb's or ipa's homemade of course as a 4% usa made beer doesn't exist.
