Good Sunday afternoon, patrons of the Virtual Bar. It was unseasonably mild this afternoon and I considered drinking several on the deck but when the sun shifted to the other side of the house and it cooled considerably I thought the better of it. I'm starting big with the Scotch version of Ralphius from Free Will Brewing Co.I just reviewed it on the NBW thread where my colleagues seem to be focusing on Big Beers, as well. Cheers!

Houston is going through a little mini trend of low ABV stouts, often of the Irish Dry Stout variety, and I'm really enjoying it. I know @Premo88 really likes this one from Saint Arnold as much as me. Great Heights (as posted earlier) and North Shepherd Brewery do really nice examples of the style as well.

Richard Beirach spinning, his great album EON with a fantastic version of Nardis (a song Miles specifically wrote just for Bill Evans, but has since become a jazz standard).

Founders '20 Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Tried to fit this in for Celluary, but life got in the way as it usually does. Quite possibly my favorite Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels. Dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, big roasted malt, some peat, espresso, umami, cocoa powder, prune, some plum, tobacco, slight bourbon, charred oak, vanillin. The age has tempered the barrel a bit, but the beer is still intense from the base. Outstanding.

 

Unreal temps for this time of year for the land of 10,000 lakes. Decent beer home grown.

This is a pretty nice offering from Berkshire Brewing in South Hadley MA.



Got the chili simmering with a good amount of jalapenos. The key to finding hot jalapenos is to look for the gold striations on the peppers - that indicates that they're older and usually much hotter.

 

Lord Octopus, with Mosaic Hops. 70 degrees on March 3? I’ll take it!
