    1. Anyone else trying to accomplish this or already accomplished this feat? I am about 40 breweries out after having gone after them for the last year when I can. I live in Milwaukee so it makes it a little more difficult. Still a very fun journey, so many breweries in the suburbs that weren't there 10 years ago.

I'm probably through about 95% of breweries within Chicago city limits and I've biked to most of them. I only scratched the surface on the suburban ones.

Counted about 50 within city limits that I've visited. Some breweries have more than one location, which I've counted as a distinct location anyways. But only about 10 suburban breweries. How about y'all?

I've visited all 4 breweries in the town where I live (including one that is closed), all three of the others in the rest of the county, and I'm going to guess 250 out of the 400+ breweries in Michigan, including a bunch that have closed (I'm traveling right now so I don't have access to my records with exact numbers.) I'm closing in on 700 breweries overall in the US, Canada, Belgium and Germany, so I have a long way to go.

But if you look at this list https://www.beeradvocate.com/members/?type=places. you'll see that the all-time champion is @WillieThreebiers . Willie and many of those below him on the list must live in RVs and are constantly on the road drinking good beer and writing reviews. I hope they all find time to eat and sleep. Thanks and cheers to all of them for their reviews. :beers::clap::+1:

Life on the road isn't as glamorous as it sound... but the beer is good.

Nope. I’d rather just go to the top 4 breweries 10 times each than suffering through 20+ disappointments in the bottom 40.

I too am working through this. I’ve gone to most in the city. The suburbs become less than ideal because of the drive back to the city instead of convenient public transportation

But how would you know your top 4 breweries without having gone to the others in order to determine a top 4? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Beer Advocate is a pretty good resource for determining which breweries are worthwhile. For another example a cursory search of a breweries website would tell a barleywine lover that maybe Hop Butcher isn’t worthwhile for them or a pastry stout fan may be disappointed at Dovetail.

i will say, though, there are some breweries in the burbs that are absolutely decimating a lot of Chicago breweries; Afterthought, Goldfinger, Art History, Sundial, just to name a few

The suburban beer scene is not too shabby these days.

I’m no beer sommelier, but I feel like I could name a dozen breweries in the west suburbs alone that I feel have taplists full of upper echelon beers. Most that aren’t mentioned too much here, but continue to impress me each visit.

What are some of the ones you'd call out? Genuinely curious

Some I like that aren’t as hyped include Alter Brewing, Church Street, Penrose, and Miskatonic - all brew top notch beers in my opinion. Pollyanna is also a solid brewery.

I’ve had good beers from Imperial Oak but haven’t been a lot. Ditto with Riverlands. Noon Whistle has a really big tap list with some good wild ales. Solemn Oath used to get a lot of hype, and they are always very busy when I go.

And then the usual suspects who are popular in here: Goldfinger, Phase Three. I like some More beers and definitely need to check out Art History a few more times.

These are kind of my heavyweights and I’m sure I’m missing one or two, plus a few others I just haven’t been too enough.

If you're talking about ORD, they have an outpost of the Publican which usually has a good taplist. Otherwise not sure there is an actual brewery bar there.

If you're venturing out of ORD, then Mikerphone isn't too far.

I think Goose Island has a brewery in terminal 3 inside ORD.
