Clear, dark honey colored body; dense carbonation; very thick head, densely spongy and light khaki colored; thick, lasting streaks of foam stripe the inside of the glass. Fantastic aroma; candi sugar and light brown sugar; fruity esters; gentle touch of spiciness, ginger and cardamon. Outstanding flavor; dark, earthy sweetness hinting at figs and dates; a somewhat bold undercurrent of phenolic bitterness; subtle spiciness throughout. Heavy body yet soft and velvety; pillowy presence of residual sugars.

The brewery's English-language web pages classify this beer as an "abbey-style brown ale (quadruple)". And what a fine example of the quadruple beer style.
