Good Saturday afternoon, BAs. The weather is crummy today but we beat the rain and did some genealogy research in a cemetery in Bergen County. Stopped on the way home at Ghost Hawk Brewing in Clifton. First visit. Starting with a Wee Heavy called Beira. Solid if not memorable. Cheers!

    1) Giesenbrau Bohemian Necromancer (4.9%): A Czech Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of dark cocoa, black malt, bread. Earthy and lightly floral. Smooth.
    versus
    2) Bent Paddle False Hibernation (5.2%): A Czech Dark Lager from Minnesota with flavors of black malt, bread, coffee roast, cocoa, and dark fruit. Dry, clean and smooth. (Correctly matched the two beers blind)

    Winner:
    1) Bent Paddle False Hibernation
: Czech Dark Lager Battle. Both from Minneosta. First is Giesenbrau, which makes some great German beers. This is dark, lightly roasted and bittersweet. Next is Bent Paddle False Hibernation. It's similar, but dark. More bready and subtle. I think the flavors of Giesenbrau stand out better, but the flavors of Bent Paddle are more subtle yet complex and authentic. It's very smooth and an excellent Czech Dark.

New beer from Good Word Brewing in Georgia. Canadian Shaman German style Pils 4.9% ABV. Got to sample this one a few weeks ago before they put it on tap. Picked up some cans today.

While the head retention was a little short, this is an excellent example of the style. Floral/spicy hops and grainy/doughy malt. Malty on the front end and quickly gives way to spicy hops character. Drying start to finish. Clean fermentation profile. Bitterness and grainy malt note lingers into the finish but not offensively so. Drinking these fresh gives a much better impression of the style than the typically aged ones we get from German. You notice the hops presence much more. Prost!

NBW cross-post. This is one of the most revered beers in Minnesota. Selected for me by @cheeseheadinMinneapolis. I really appreciate the experience of enjoying this beer. This is honey-baked ham from the depths of the earth. @JamFuel, here is an important message from one of your most influential countrymen.

Might have used the Spiegelau wheat beer glass 10 X and you saw the final use. Broke in my hand drying the outside of it. Never will I buy a thin-walled glass like that again. Anyways, aside from that shite, it's time for some suds. Had a nice quick lunch. Lite is just right. Cheers!

One more at Ghost Hawk Brewing: Ravendark, a Foreign/Export Stout. This one has an average BA rating of 4.34 and it’s no fluke. Seriously good Stout. Cheers from the Jersey Meadowlands!

I've broken glasses twice while drying. Luckily, both times they were free Stella glasses. :beers:

It was a $20 gift. Let's see here...$2 per use until it shagged off. At least I didn't get cut.
