What beer are you drinking now? #4159

Happy Sunday BA's! I'm enjoying an Akademia Brewing (Athens, GA) Skal. A Norwegian style Wheat Ale. Pineapple, apricots and pear like esters accent this unique beer. Cheers all!

 

Good Sunday afternoon, patrons of the Virtual Bar. It's been a rather dreary weekend and I'm getting itchy to do some yard work. We took Chambo for a walk this afternoon and it started sleeting. She wasn't happy and pulled us back home (as hard as a 21 pound Boston Terrier can pull!).

Speaking of dogs, I'm sipping my way through a big (750 ML) bottle of Good Boy (Laird's Applejack Barrel) Russian Imperial Stout which I purchased at Ghost Hawk Brewing Co. yesterday. It's named for "Whiskey," the brewery's dog. I assume that Whiskey never met Ralphius from Free Will Brewing in Penna. but they would have had lots of trash talk, I suppose. I'm impressed by this Stout! It's a lot better than I anticipated. Very deft touch on the barrel and the base Stout has a much bigger chocolate presence than I usually note in a RIS. I just reviewed it on the NBW thread. Cheers!

 

Rye Brown Ale and Shwarzbier at Eppig Waterfront

 

At Great Heights Brewing, starting a new book this afternoon.

First up is their Amber Lager. It is nice enough, but not exceptional. Review over at the NBW thread.



Then their excellent Irish Dry Stout, which I have had many times.

 

Then on down the road to a dive for an excellent smash burger.

The Post, with a Saint Arnold Lawnmower. Which is always an excellent local Kolsch.

Stone Ruination (8.2% canned 1/17/24, best by 5/2024): An Imperial WCIPA from California with flavors of bitter grapefruit and resinous pine. A sweet, but balancing bitter finish.

Sure enough I picked up another pack of these. Following @DavyJonesXXX . This is hitting the spot lately. Not only is it a great beer, but I respect Stone's integrity to put a canning date, plus a best by date that is only four months from the canning date. They really don't want to sell this one 5+ months out, whereas many breweries would stamp an arbitrary best by date 6+ months from the canning date or forego the dating altogether. A banger of a WCIPA.

Good move. They're very unpredictable, but I'm hoping they're hitting their stride. Go Hoosiers!

I hope you're right. Liam McNeeley decommitting was a total shocker and what a buzz kill for IU basketball. I'm hoping Mgbako, Ware, and Reneau decide to stick around for another year or two. It's a young team so there's hope, despite all the opinions floating around about Coach Woodson ("Woody").

 

I was bummed to miss those cans this year - both because I like the Stout and the can art is great. We used to take our kids to the Deserted Village when they were young. They still talk about it.

My second Nelson hopped beer today and both are lagers. Interesting.

 

This one is rather terrific. Incredibly pleasant all around.

 

She did wander out side to read her book but the shell buckets had a funk to them so she went back in the house. I didn’t turn around but I felt the burn on my neck.

 

They needed outside shooting and McNeeley definitely would've provided that and more. Huge loss. I have a feeling Ware goes to the NBA. Might be a lot of portal kids coming in, but that can be a blessing or a curse. I have mixed feeling about Woodson. Need one more season to see how he does. We'll see.
