I didn't leave Bud rather they left me.

My vision has deteriorated for years and reached the point where my eye docs recommended I not attempt to drive more that a few miles from home using only roads that I knew well. The store closest to me carries Bud which is no great shakes as a beer but was suitable for purpose.

Now, I don't give a happy damn who the chosen spokesperson is, a transgender influencer, famous athlete, race car driver, whatever.

What I do object to, strongly, is Bud's marketing department publicly stating that their loyal customer base (including me) is made up of frat boys, rednecks, uneducated plebeians and other forms of social detritus. We're good enough to pay their salaries but not the sort they wish to mix with socially.

So the Hell with them. Let them drink all that unsold stock. If they even drink beer.

This site is full of people — myself included — who don’t appreciate when their favorite brands make changes designed to appeal to new customers rather than focusing in the existing loyal base.

That said, I think you overstate the comments of one young marketing exec in a massive transnational corporation. To be clear, she said: “I’m a businesswoman, I had a really clear job to do when I took over Bud Light, and it was ‘This brand is in decline, it’s been in a decline for a really long time, and if we do not attract young drinkers to come and drink this brand there will be no future for Bud Light’” and that “Bud Light had been kind of a brand of fratty, kind of out-of-touch humor.”

She’s talking about the company’s advertising being fratty, not the company’s customer base. And if you think Spud McKenzie and Real Mean of Genius and what not, it’s hard to argue it hasn’t been fratty.

To me, this controversy is largely manufactured hype on the part of the right wing outrage machine. :beers:

C'mon, now. How can we take your otherwise valid and accurate comment seriously when you leave out the "Budweiser Frogs", "Louie the Lizard" and "Whassup?" advertising campaigns?

 Well, on second thought, since fraternities are more associated with college-age (and older) drinkers, maybe the Frogs et. al. did appeal to a younger demographic...

Betcha you're with many others. I've never been a Bud drinker and haven't followed the latest follies. It sucks to be frustrated enuf to have to bail out of an EZ to find brand you enjoy. But you have your own standards and that's more important. Don't feel bad about signing off on those "big dogs".

The frogs were covered in “and what not,” but in truth, I forgot about Waazzupppp!!!!,
    which is a major omission.

With campaigns like that, it’s surprising that people who object to Budweiser marketing execs thinking of them as frat boys aren’t happy with the attempted shift in marketing tactics.

Early on in my US brewing history education, I read the following, so I know what it is like to reject brewers' marketing image of me as a customer and beer drinker (emphasis added to most egregious aspect):
---Theodore Rosenak (formerly of Drewrys, Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, Rheingold) Marketing/Communications magazine, Jaunuary 1969

!@#$ You, Ted! But I did like at least one of your beers - Rheingold in the Chug-a-Mug bottles.
My Mom liked them, too (or is that Mary Tyler Moore? Wait! --Maybe it's a guy! :astonished:):

Don't take the bait set by the culture war mongers, my man. There's folks out there who profit greatly by turning Americans against Americans. If you're mad at anyone, be mad at that crew.

A couple of days ago in the old commercials thread I posted:

"I am not a fan of Bud/Bud Light but they made a number of commercials I liked. From the talking frogs to the Dilly Dilly commercials. None of these inspired me to drink the beers but I found them amusing."

    Who doesn't like talking frogs!?!

And a singing frog is even better!

Oh I'm not mad, don't even care if Bud continues to make beer or switches to manufacturing car tires. With five grandkids under my roof my days are filled with activities I really care about.

Sounds like you have a full life. That is great. But it does seems like you stopped drinking Bud because you're mad, at least a little bit. I'm just suggesting that thing your mad about may not be as bad or intense as you think. The tone of the coverage may deliberately be sensationalized in a continued effort by some to politicize everything Americans do. And I say this because I too have fallen victim to it.

I recall having a difference of opinion with you a long time ago, could be wrong but I think it happened.
I hope this lands right but everyone listens to one channel, one network and never has the insight to believe maybe they got duped, fooled and manipulated. I know I have been influenced despite my best intentions.
The fact that you see,and can admit that maybe you allowed sensationalized news affect your judgment is amazing. I find it beyond impressive and hope some day I can sit down and buy you a beer

Agreed. AB advertising has been pretty fratty for years IMHO, and likewise the brand has been in decline for years. So suggesting that some sort of change might be warranted, in an attempt to revive the brand, would seem to make some sense. I honestly never understood why the characterization would bother anyone...even if you felt the comments implied that a significant portion of the customer base is/was a bit fratty, that really doesn't seem like the sort of thing to get your knickers in a bunch over.

This is probably just a personal perspective, but I always thought the "dilly dilly" commercials were particularly dumb and fratty. I would express that opinion whenever the commercials came on, and I don't remember any of my bud light friends disagreeing. Some thought they were funny, but most just didn't care that they were kind of dumb. So it always struck me as a bit odd when the AB VP simply pointed out something that I thought was fairly obvious (and members of the customer base then expressed their outrage over the characterization).

My only wish for AB-InBev is that someday a consortium of employees will take back ownership of Goose Island from them. The rest I don't give a flying flip about. I was done forever with these douchebags when the Carson King fiasco went down in 2019.

To hell with critical thinking is what I say. Your loyalty was never questioned. Hell, the production facility your bud light is produced in wouldn't even ever have to can a fluid ounce of those cans if it came to pass either. They have national distribution, and are a global brand. But, since you bring up how fragile this mono culture your privileged thinking has painted you into a corner over. And by a chismoso poseur has been pretending to have social relevance, I might add. As a single market for a global brand.
Perhaps, you could use some tough love.
Budweiser has had some really really impressively stupid advertising campaigns. That's what this is about. Because, they have been chuckleheaded witty, and misogynistic as the day is long. Same with ALL watery industrial beer. If you can laugh at frogs, and dilly dilly, and also increase sales with using stud meets tits on a blanket bestiality promoting dogs. Why the F**k can't bears, and/ super femme queens promote with double entendres and a mascot of their own during gay pride season that would make you blush, as you bust out laughing.
p.s. it's not a small market. And it can actually make fun of itself.

Those are the exact words of the 21st Amendment of the US Constitution.
I'm convinced of this even if the actual Constitution indicates I'm wrong.
(I'm just trying to be compatible with the current climate.)
