I like this solution. Yesterday I had decided not to include The Bar in my watched forums because it just brought back all those other threads to my home page, and didn’t seem to resolve the main thing that people were less than happy about—I figured if I wanted to check or post to any of those threads they were just a single click away at the top of the page. Now those threads, plus WBAYDN and NBW, are in a logical spot content-wise, but those two still appear on my home page as “featured” threads. Everything I want to see on my home page and nothing I don’t. Bravo!

This is really well done--an elegant solution to some seemingly mutually exclusive suggestions--thanks, Todd! I've only seen it on mobile so far but the layout looks great and should be even more welcoming for new users to see the community that occurs in these threads.

I'm going to do a version for visitors (not logged in) with less info as the page gets cached if you're not logged in to save resources. It would introduce the callout, forum, and threads to a ton of people.

Maybe we need to post an interactive Visio flowchart on Teams to show the various if then else structures to find a page. Everyone can whiteboard their preferred flow, the Dev team can aggregate the flows into an AI learning model based on IP address. When the user joins, the AI algorithm automatically loads their link flow, an API creates beer and food orders to their favorite brewery and restaurant to be Door Dashed. The Door Dashers will also be licensed massage therapists who will give foot rubs for an extra fee.

Being tongue in cheek of course, but wow, I don’t envy the task of keeping us heathens content. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is moving The Bar as it’s folder under the Main Folder still under consideration? If not, can you explain the reason or purpose of The Bar staying as a subgroup under Beer Talk, or having a single sub forum remain under another folder so we can understand?

The other existing sub forums make sense intuitively because they encapsulate several regional or trade type discussions under a common folder. To me, keeping The Bar as a single sub folder doesn’t make sense logically in terms of tree / folder design or purpose. Theoretically everything here is “Beer Talk”.

Just feel The Bar should have equal prominence so that people can find it more readily naturally without having to do anything extra like watch threads. It is the main driver of daily discussion within the current Beer Talk folder.

None of this impacts me individually, because I’m aware of this, been here for nine years so at this point I know how to navigate the site. This wasn’t the case my first four years when I was working and didn’t have the time to explore beyond the Great Lakes forum, and the Beer Review area. I only discovered these other areas via links posted to other areas like The Bar type posts within a Great Lakes post.

My comments are geared toward helping people who come here infrequently or new users like I was my first four years who don’t necessarily have the time or patience to explore all that the site has to offer.

    Cheers.

Yes. Looks like I failed to mention this, but my intent was to keep it as a subforum for a short period of time to catch those who are looking for these threads in Beer Talk. And then move it out as a core forum when things settle.

Awesome! Thank you so much for these changes and your explanations.

I understand how difficult managing these types of changes are over a diverse audience group with varying user interest levels and skill sets.

Part of my last job in addition to overseeing accounting and financial reporting for a complex financial entity was helping IT teams and financial end users across 37 individual entities design and access a single IT platform.

The platform interfaced daily (updated overnight) with an inflexible decades old government platform designed in 1997. Miss many of the people I worked with, but not that particular aspect of the job beyond the satisfaction of helping others solve the interesting challenges we encountered along the way.

@Todd I really like this alot! In fact I like it better then before because now since we still have WBAYDN on the front page but also within its own special dedicated area.

Btw I was looking at the html for the site and Good god, LOTs of divs and list elements, reminded my of when I first learned HTML. lol.

Too bad @Todd lives outside the easy shipping location for most of us as I am sure he would receive some BIF for these great changes!

    Cheers!

I think moving it would be a good choice @Todd
I have the same reaction as @jmdrpi (post below) in threads like this. For me, the home page isn't a content provider, it's just a door to get me to the forums page. The forums page is my navigation place, and at the moment, "the bar" is hard to notice there.

We had two days in a row of 500+ replies in WBAYDN and NBW closed out the weekend with 125 replies (5 more than last weekend).

I don't think anyone has to worry about anyone finding these threads. And they're only going to get even easier to find going forward.
