Up early because I am serving as an Election Judge today, going to be a long day if I survive the 15 hours or so. Will be my first paid "volunteer" activity since retirement, though the hourly rate doesn't amount to much. Shouldn't be a large turnout as there is only one somewhat high profile race for Cook County State's Attorney and just about everything else beyond down ballot candidates are uncontested or pretty much non contested.

Not sure if I'll be in the mood for another beer or just sleep when I return home.

Celebrating the first (night) of Spring today in North America (10:06 PM local time) via the vernal equinox, which has shifted from March 21 17 years ago, as the astrological dates shift throughout the 400 year cycle.

My favorite of the four Vivaldi seasonal pieces.

Having a Fat Tire that came in a case of new Belgium my wife picked up at Costco. I know some people have hard feelings toward NB but I harbor no such feelings. That being said the new Fat Tire is absolute junk. It tastes like a miller lite. And miller lite at least makes no pretensions about what it is. Oh well

My last 'Celebration' of the season and it's still tasting pretty damn great at around 65-70% potency, Cheers!!!

I used to like Fat Tire years ago but something must have changed a while back. I don’t buy it much anymore.

I served for the 2004 General Election. It was very busy, we had contested local races plus the Presidential race. The precinct captains fed us all day.

Now, we have early voting, so most either vote early or don’t vote. We have had two voters in our precinct for the first 3 hours, 20 minutes today. I would have brought a book if I would have known.

Surprised there are over 1,711,000 registered voters in the City of Chicago. We have 2,716,450 total residents, including children and non citizens.

Good morning BAs! The usual minutiae out of the way, it’s coffee time:

Bottled 11/22/23. Poured at 54°. Coffee still vibrant.

It’s a sunny 56° day with gusts up to 17mph making it feel cooler…stout weather in SW FL as a cold front rolls in, and it feels great.
    Cheers and have a tankard-full Tuesday y’all!

Just think that you’re doing your part for democracy, in the US. Fewer and fewer people vote here too, so abstention is the main winner. Piss poor choices and candidates here and around, but it’s an eerie trend. I believe that I haven’t missed on a French major election since I was 18. Cheers.

Lunch beverage is a Founders Breakfast stout with an egg/ham/cheese sandwich and blue corn chips. I think I'll take the rest out to the 56 degree sunshine.

Pours a very clear yet dark brown color; good carbonation presence; thick, fluffy and loosely sudsy head that then settles to a thick, semi-creamy texture, light khaki color. Nice roasted grain nose, rich maltiness. Very good taste; richly sweet, dark malt flavor; a touch of grain char; light brown sugar; light phenolic bitterness; twinge of booziness. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; silky; mild alcohol dryness at the finish.

All in all, this is a good beer, but it does seem a bit weak in color, flavor, and mouthfeel for an imperial stout style. The alcohol presence is relatively subdued, more noticeable in the mild dryness at the finish than anywhere else. While not quite making me think of 'imperial stout' based on my preferences, definitely a no-frills imperial stout (i.e., no crazy adjuncts), and still a very nice dark beer overall.

Hello again VB patrons. Thanks @ChicagoJ for 4168 today. I'm trying to mentally prep for a blast of absent winter weather moving in. Krazy. I hung onto this beer because of its name so I could hang out by a fire and tip it but we're under red flag fire warnings and burn restrictions here and have been for quite sometime. So, might as well just have it. 1st beer from these folks.
Destination Unknown DUBCO series Burn Pile DDH TIPA 10%. Holy guano batman...what a beer! Added it + photo. R&R comin' up. Bangin' out the 4 corners of this one. Cheers!

I rescued a few Osabisa LPs years ago. They were in a box on the street on garbage day and the truck was comin' down the street...so I took the whole box. Cheers!
