I still buy 60 when it’s on sale for $32 a case. I like 90 on tap but it’s been many years. Burton Baton was a favorite as was Noble Rot, Indian Brown and the “crazy” large format ancient ales. I did like the low ABV IPA for a bit but it got boring quick. I see new beers from DFH around but the $14 six pack cost keeps me away and I don’t buy singles unless it’s $2-3. I did also enjoy the oat IPA back around 2020-21, maybe it’s still around. Overall I think the beer is well over priced except the 60 and Namaste. Not sure what 90 cost now, my last purchase was 4x16 cans for $8.99. Forgot Higher Math, with a few years that was a great beer. Enjoy
Sadly (and I am 99% sure of this), that's almost certainly not going to happen, as the palo santo wood DFH had to make it has been used up. However, I am sad to say they are fairly much irrelevant to me nowadays. Their production decisions have less inventive stuff and more core and high ABV stuff. I haven't seen nor tried some of the wild ales they were making within the past 4-5 years or so. The affiliated restaurants near us also weren't getting too much interesting stuff, even before they shut down.
I still occasionally have a 60 minute and still enjoy it when I do. Like others have mentioned a lot of the beers that made them stand out just aren’t available anymore. Even more recently I really enjoyed Liquid Truth Serum, but gone like the others.
For me personally I would say they are no longer relevant to me. While I do see several of their beers on the shelves near me, my eye passes by them quickly without a second thought. The only time I have purchased one of their beers in the last 2 or so years has been when making a mix 6. It’s always more of an afterthought than really wanting the beer. I think they make a good product, but there is nothing from them I “need” to have.
Seems like I'm in the same boat as most. I'll grab 120 min. occasionally as well as 120 and/or WWS variants. I like 60 min. and 90 min. IPA. Just haven't purchased either in ages....I should check to see if their fresh at my grocery stores.....
I grab 60 or 90 on occasion when on sale at Publix. One of my wife’s best-friend’s sister works at a Rehoboth. So, it’s relevant cause she talks a lot about it, and we will certainly visit next time we are in town. But outside of that? Nah, which is sad.
Not nearly as relevant for me as they used to be. I loved their weird stuff and was so into DFH years ago that my wife booked a vacation in Rehoboth for my 40th. Then we started going every year. We do like eating at the brewpub. Still enjoy a few classics but I miss a bunch they don’t make or distribute any more. Interestingly, my local store brought out a lot of their older beer from 10 plus years ago from the back.
I still feel like the quality of the beers they put out are good, it's just that the beers they still put out aren't necessarily something that I can't get from a local brewery. You build your legacy on brewing something that you can't get from anyone else, and then all you put out are the things that you can get anywhere? Theobroma, Bitches Brew, Black & Blue, etc. were all great beers that were different than the beers they inspired (which are pretty homogenous), and had great artwork, to boot. Why should I care about a gose with specific ingredients when every local brewery brews a gose with specific ingredients nowadays?
I keep forgetting about them. IMHO, the problem was that they were trying to focus on Belgian styles, which are meant to be drinkable, but the result tended to be syrupy, and that you were paying higher prices for them than Belgian classics. They opened up a tasting room/pick-up center or whatever in DC 5 or 6 years ago, and I never even bothered to visit.
Those dudes from The State that Sam went to college with seem to keep putting each other into their projects, maybe he should talk to Ken Marino about getting some product placement.
Yeah the “syrupy” issue with the Bruery beers was they made them (stouts, quads etc) at such high ABV…most clocked in 15-20% ABV so that IMO was their primary problem. A friend of mine joined the DC club and we are still trying to work through his cellar of 750’s of Black Tuesday, Grey Monday etx (whatever those beers were called). It’s hard to find enough people and interest in the style to kill off a 20% 750ml without getting smashed.
I have many memories of 60 Minute. My best friend from college was from Delaware and had a house at Dewey Beach. He often went to the brewery and would bring 60 Minute back to Greensboro in the early 90s. He has since died and I'll buy a dozen occasionally to toast my old friend. It is still a fine beer....
