Greetings NBW. I have a couple of beers this evening, both from @snaotheus and NBS BIF #18, which I believe is the 16th NBS BIF event I’ve taken part in since the fall of 2016.

This first beer is a “Mystery Beer,” so I’m to do this live!

The first thing I notice when I pop the top on the can is citrus fruit, specifically orange and mango. A fairly aggressive pour reveals a beer the color of burnished copper that is unfiltered and a creamy off white head. By everything I see thus far, this looks like a WCIPA - my favorite style.

The nose is orange and mango and more than a bit of berry and an earthy note as well. So now I’m leaning towards a Citra/Mosaic/Simcoe hopped WCIPA. We’ll see.

The taste has a ripe orange flavor and mango, with even more berry on the taste mid-palate and maybe a bit of resiny pine for a nice touch of bitterness at the back of the palate along with a dollop of caramalt. There’s also a bit of residual warming alcohol as the beer settles, so a WCDIPA is in play.

The mouthfeel is medium and very dry, again in the WCIPA genre. This is really tasty, something I would drink on the regular a pint or two at a time. And as I type this, that warming alcohol is more prevalent, so I’m leaning towards a WCDIPA.

Which means it will be a session APA with Egyptian Pharaoh root as an adjunct. Give me a couple of minutes for the unveiling whilst I enjoy this beer that I put firmly in 4.35 range.

That might be the best review I’ve read here in five years. Very well done, my beer nerd friend.

    Icarus i life lager
    ...incredibly clear light gold appearance
...medium carbonation with a close to medium body
...aroma is malt, grain, cereal with a sweet earthy honey
..taste is mildly sweet with a subdued hop profile with cereal grain and malt dominating.
..overall it tasted like a beer soda, odd but I mean it in a good way. Mellow hops with a sweet malt profile made it easy to get down and for the price point it is a really nice local beer[IMG]

Not a WCDIPA, but a WCTIPA. Glad to see that alcohol warming I was getting wasn’t me just be an old dude. Excellent beer, IMHO. Thank you SO MUCH, @snaotheus .

Now I will proceed with caution to beer #2, which is a 14% ABV RIS on top of this 10.5% WCTIPA. My “Dad’s Gone Wild” routine may break out, which I’m sure Mrs O will enjoy. :sunglasses:

Pours pure black, settles pure black, and absolutely swallows light in the glass as it supports creamy tan head. Absolutely gorgeous RIS.

The nose is roasty malts, rich milk chocolate, toffee, and a nice dollop of stone fruit, especially dark cherries and plums. I am drooling.

The taste is a dance between the milk chocolate, roasty coffee, toffee, and the dark cherries and plums. This is so delicious, with the balance between all the flavors masking the 14% ABV. That is hard to do, but executed perfectly by the brewery.

The mouthfeel is creamy and coats the palate. This is a world class RIS, IMHO.

    Good evening NBW.
I came across this one at my local bottle shop Monday and since I’ve been enjoying Belgian styles quite a bit lately I grabbed one.

Jovial Belgian style Dubbel from Tröegs.

    4.13/5 rDev +7.8%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

375 ml caged and corked bottle poured into a chalice.

Pouring clear and chestnut brown (lighter than my picture) with a two finger tan head. The foam is fairly persistent but too slick to leave much lace. The strong nose opens with port-like and dried fruit aromas. A less robust milky candi sugar aroma takes over after the head settles. Starting mildly sweet, the dark fruit and dark sugar flavors dry quickly for a tangy finish. I’m getting just a hint of woody bitterness. Belgian yeast phenols add character to both the nose and flavor. Medium-weight and smooth it feels more frothy than creamy and is moderately carbonated, just enough for a weak crisp bite. Sweet and rich, but subtle with enough balancing dryness to drink easily.

I probably should have grabbed a four pack.
    Cheers!

Good evening weekenders. Miserable rainy day here turning into a windy miserable night. Definitely a day for indoor puttering. Did a big clean on the aquarium while half paying attention to college hoops and watching the Bruins underachieve...

@JackHorzempa I'll keep it going with one of my favorite brewers:

Jacks Abby Nordic Frost. This is a Bock, so maybe a bit late in the season. Or wicked early, depending how you look at it.

A beautiful looking beer. Pours an amber color oddly reminding me of maple syrup. Crystal clear. The official NBW pour technique attempt did result in an escape of foam. Huge tan head, moderately dense, ridiculous cling to the glass.

Beautifully malt forward aroma as expected. I get a toasty bread crust/biscuit smell and a bit of dough or maybe cereal grain in the background. Slightly sweet maybe honey-like, definite caramel/toffee. Some fruit esters. Floral and herbal with a very mild resin top note. A little vague spice I can't quite define yet.

Yeah - I'm likin' this! Malty goodness leads the way like a slightly sweet toasted biscuit. There's the toffee/caramel thing mixed in, but not overly sweet. There's an underlying bitterness that comes thru more strongly on the finish to hit the reset button. Very mild fruit esters and I'm getting apple and a bit of cherry(huh?). Mild contribution from floral and herbal hops with just a kiss of resin. There's a light smack of spice on the end that is mildly peppery and clove-like. Extremely faint lemon aromatic.

Medium bodied livened up significantly by a fairly robust carbonation level. Kind of a foamy feel. Moderately dry.

Good stuff - I'm hoping they run with this one again. It checks a bunch of flavor boxes for me - has some elements of a winter warmer without the ridiculous levels of flavors those can have. The malts shine and maybe the hops were tweaked up a bit, but they compliment and enhance rather than dominate the flavor. Enjoyable drinking beer. Up around the 4.3 territory for the official score.

    Oakflower pils
...similar to last beer a very very light gold appearance
..just a hair below average carbonation with about a medium body
...aroma is not overpowering in the least yet I get some cereal and everything else is too light to describe
    ...taste almost dry at first,cereal,grain,malt.
..overall its unimpressive at first but as it warms the taste gets a little more depth to it. Leaves a lot of dry grain and cereal in the aftertaste [IMG]

Engren Edel-Pils, 4.8% ABV Cheers to @mhksuccess for this superbowl squares send. 4.02 overall

Pours an effervescent light gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Nice head retention and lacing

S: Grassy, a little grainy. Some perfumy hops one warm

T: Follows the nose, a touch of lime, plus dryness up fronts. Very dry, grassy, some grainy sweetness as this beer warms up. Finishes dry and grassy

MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation. Good balance

Drinkable and true to the style

Speaking of this dark and robust @KP7 …Hey friends, a pleasure to be back joining you with all your new beers today. We just celebrated my mother in law’s bday and it was great family fun. My brother in law, who’s more of my brother than in law, came through with my new beer for tonight.

I’ve really liked everything I’ve had from this little south jersey brewery but never had the pleasure of trying their porter. BIL lives near the shore and visited MudHen last weekend with a mutual friend and offered to grab me a request, today he gave it to me. I really want to visit this place one day, the recap of his trip and beer he said he tried increased my desire to visit. Alright here we go…

MudHen Brewing - Captain Doug’s Porter (Robust Porter 5.5%)

Very dark brown in color, almost no light penetrates; beautiful frothy and creamy looking light brown head that is just so appetizing, just calling you to take a sip; above average retention.

Cocolate and cocoa powder accompanied by some roasted malt presence, it presents that light ashy dryness that I like and get from porters from time to time; just the faintest hint of licorice.

The taste presents a much richer flavor than the nose leads you to believe; big rich bittersweet chocolate, nice roast bite on the finish, espresso-like but diluted a tad; nice little touch of hop character on the finish; perhaps a touch of perceived smoke in the aftertaste.

Light body that presents itself quite rich but very smooth; good bitterness, verging towards very noticeable territory, but still in the foreground and balanced; very clean on the finish, dries out nicely.

This is a very good beer; it’s a rich and 100% robust in nature porter all in a nice 5.5% package. This really actually reminds me of Black Butte, would be an interesting side by side if I come across it.

    @MacMalt

    ——————

Hope to see you all again tomorrow with a new beer, either way; I’ll keep busy thanks to you all and your beers

First time enjoying Stille Nacht from De Dolle. Excellent beer. No perceivable hop flavor, but slight bitterness on the finish. Pretty sweet. While definitely carbonated, mouthfeel was a bit syrupy with some drying bitterness on the finish. Alcohol is absolutely masked, especially for 12.0%. Nice.

Not that you can see the name, it’s Eternity.
A Barrel Blended Imperial Milk Stout with coffee, chocolate and maple syrup.
This is how pastry stouts should be.
Plenty of malty goodness with chocolate, maple syrup and the coffee is blended in with the malts.
The feel is what I personally think most pastry stouts should be, viscous but not chewy.
Think this is been my favorite so far. Good stuff, thanks Maynard!
