It's a busy New Beer Sunday for me so far! First off: The Void, a black Czech pilsner from Social Project, sent my way by @russpowell .

Oooh, this one was delicious! It's super roasty on the nose, which translates to the palate ... but that's not entirely a good thing. It is delicious, but it drinks more like a milk stout than any kind of pilsner or Czech dark lager. I knew the ABV had to be modest, but it really didn't seem like it.

Great tasting beer, but I think they missed the mark. Still, if you're going to miss the mark, this is definitely the way to do it!

New Sunday Beer #2: Homewrecker, a 7% ABV IPA from Bentonville.

This is excellent! Smooth, flavorful, moderately bitter, and without noticeable flaw. I'd be more than happy to have this available to me on tap. Tasting notes are a fairly even blend between citrus, pine, and tropical notes.

If there's a criticism to be made, it's that it isn't particularly novel or unique. It doesn't bring anything new to the table, which keeps it from being rated any higher, but it's damn enjoyable.

My wife and I drove to El Paso yesterday for a meeting. We hadn't been there for a month or so, and found a lot of construction on I-10. After the meeting we decided to take a different route home, and that is how we found ourselves at Public House 28. A nice setting, we spent a very pleasant hour there before continuing home.
I bought a crowler to bring home, so my new beer for today is This Cures That, a winter warmer with green chiles. New Mexicans love their chiles, and will add them to almost anything.
The beer is a dark reddish brown with a one inch off-white head. There is a bit of lace.
Aroma of dark fruit, cinnamon, and pepper.
Taste of raisin, chile, and cinnamon.
Medium-bodied. Nice subtle burn from the chile.

Probably my last one for the weekend (especially since this is a 750ml bottle). I'm switching gears from drinking older Firestone Walker beers and pivoting to this bottle of Oude Mure Tilquin a L'Ancienne.

Pours a clean, clear amber with a hint of purple. Head was fizzy and short-lived. Overall, this is a really nice looking beer.

Aroma is spot on for what I look for in a beer like this. Lots of earthy funk complemented by the blackberries.

This somewhat reverses on the tongue, with the funk complementing the blackberries. It's (appropriately) not too fruit forward, but you can still clearly taste the blackberries. Light and easy drinking.

Overall, this is a well done beer. I tend to enjoy spontaneously fermented beers, as they are rarely boring, and never quite the same. This one is no exception. Easy to drink, tasty, and different. I'm a fan

Cahoots AmEn! BBA American/English Barleywine, 11.1% ABV. Pours dark brown with a one-finger beige head that left no lacing. Aroma is caramel/toffee and malt. Flavor follows, some moleasses and bourbon, slightly sweet, faintly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. Not your typical barleywine flavor, but I like it a lot. The BA listing says it's 93 IBU, but there's no way, this can't be over 30.

Having what we hope is the last snowstorm of the season, so zero alarm chili in the crock. One family member doesn't like spicy, so the rest of us spice it up when we serve it.

Third new beer of the day, and I'm barely halfway through it as of this writing, but ready to share my notes.

This is none other than Ozark's BCDS (2023), a legendary (IMO) BBA imperial milk stout that has long been one of my Wants (even though I neglected to list it as such).

I'll cut straight to the chase: this is perhaps the creamiest milk stout I've ever had, and that's not entirely to its benefit, as it borders on cloying. The closest parallel I have is Dragon's Milk, which is hardly my favorite BBA imperial stout (although BCDS is much, much smoother).

The bourbon is a bit one dimensional. The roastiness of the nose is dialed way back on the palate. The malt and yeast interplay doesn't provide the richest palate of flavors to thoughtfully pick through.

Is it good? Oh, wait, YEAH, it's still really good! But it's kind of a polar opposite of yesterday's BBA imperial stout, which was damn near as good and rich as you'll find. This one swings the opposite direction: less deep, less rich, closer to cloying. Spending more than 8 months in the barrels may have helped, too.

I'm absolutely enjoying every single sip, but I can't claim that it lives up to its legacy.

We had our first significant snowfall of the year here in Toronto on Friday afternoon. Significant in the sense that it fell, accumulated, and stuck around for a couple days. I actually had to put on my boots! First time this year!! My seven year old twins were, of-course, overjoyed. We are lucky to live across the street from a large park with a few good sledding hills. So, that filled up most of the daylight hours on Saturday, with a couple bathroom and food breaks sprinkled in.

Today, having helped them get their homework completed, and as they try to sit still to work on learning this week’s spelling words, I’m taking a few minutes to enjoy a beer that was, unfortunately, lost to the deep recesses on my cellar. This one is courtesy of @Whyteboar from a couple years back. I apologize, Craig, for having mislaid this for so long.

This is Cheboygan Brewing Chocolate Covered Cherry Stout.

This pours a deep dark black/brown with a very substantial creamy head that sticks around for a while before settling in as a light ring around the glass’s edge.

Dark malts hit the nose first, with some chocolate, tart cherry and a hint of black coffee.

The taste follows very closely. Nice toasted grain, Lowney’s Cherry Blossom, and a little vanilla and coffee on the back end.

The body is medium, with nice carbonation.

Overall this is a really nice fruited stout. I don’t think the accidental aging did this any harm. I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks Craig!

Today I have Zeal from Eredita Beer Co. Eredita beer is owned and brewed by Chris Papallo who brewed at Hill Farmstead for 5-years. He now brews his own beer at The 12 Percent Project, a co-op brewing facility in North Haven CT. I remember someone on this thread last week reviewed another Eredita beer and mentioned the Hill Farmstead connection which is why I impulsively grabbed this can when I saw it in the singles area at the store.

Poured from a 16-oz can stamped 11/09/23. Almost 5-months old which probably explains why it was on the singles shelf in the store cooler. Poured to a Nonic at fridge temp.
It has a brilliant orange body and a puffy white head that fades within 3-minutes. The beer does lace the glass moderately through the session though.
There is a distinct onion aroma and some underlying mustiness from a sniff.
The taste is better on the front end- citrus rind coupled with some sweetness, but the finish brings a slight hop burn and that onion sensation again, though not as off putting as the aroma.
The body is tongue coating and carbonation is a little light.
I think it's unfair for me to pan this beer given the age of this single. I hope to revisit it and revise my review soon.

I cannot remember a beer label listing ingredients so completely as this. I would love to see it become a trend.
I will have to make another trip to The 12 Percent Project sometime and try some Eredita beer fresh on tap.

As promised, I'm visiting 3 Sons' 2020 Vintage Nectar: not a new tick, officially, since I had the 2021 edition yesterday, and these beers should be under the same entry (they are), but this one is slightly different.

Aged an average 32 months in Highland Park and Old Fitzgerald barrels. How different will this one be? Live review follows! I type this as I experience it! :grinning:

By appearance and nose ... not much. It's boozy, it's strong, it's bold. Retention isn't quite as good, and the aroma is a bit mustier, but still delectable.

If it's thinner on the palate, it's by a hair. It's definitely hotter; there's a large amount of effervescent, boozy sting that's going to make you slow down here.

Is it as rich and flavorful? Not quite, but it's still an outstanding example of the unadulterated BBA imperial stout style (if barrel aging qualifies as unadulterated, which is debatable). A touch syrupy in flavor, as was the 2021 version, but not at all in a bad way; the hefty malt base and booziness prevent it from ever approaching anything remotely cloying.

This is outstanding, but if I were to rate it alone, it would definitely be more in the 4.5 range, probably lower - as opposed to the stellar 4.70 the 2021 edition earned from me yesterday.

    Cheers!

Yes, another Eibauer, and yet another Bock. Not much to say except that it is bready, malty, sweet, and does taste like a Bock, but not the best one. So far, this profile is similar among most of the Eibauer lagers, with only a couple of lighter ones being highlights.

The latest addition of Eibauer lagers. Berliner is one of several brands they use letting them release the same beer style with a different label. Unlike Das Pilsner which was too sweet, this one is crisp, hoppy, and overall decent, not unlike Radeberger Pilsner.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. This weekend I've posted several times from Autodidact Beer's 1st anniversary celebration. There were four special releases - each was a collaboration. I saved what I hoped would be the best for this afternoon: Spiteful Snake, a TIPA collaboration with another of my favorite brewers, District 96 in New City, New York. The hop bill consists of Riwaka hop kief, Motuere, and HBC 586. The results are superb!

Canned 3 days ago. It pours an opaque, bright orange with almost a finger cap of bright white foam and swirls of lacing. The smell is big and fragrant with pineapple, tangerine, lemon, and other tropical fruits, along with some vanilla sweetness. The taste pops with tart lemon, lime, and grapefruit, balanced by sweeter notes of nectarine, mango, and passion fruit, and a dose of pine sap and spicy herbs. This is a delicious ale with a touch of District 96's snake fruit characteristic. The mouth feel is plush and creamy with pleasant carbonation, and it drinks verily easily for the 10% AVB. Overall, Spiteful Snake is a gem of an Imperial IPA and represents the best work of Autodidact and D96. Both brewers should be proud.

I am very fortunate to have such an excellent new brewery so close to home. If I don't get stopped too long at the single traffic light, I can drive there in about 4 minutes. Autodidact primarily brews IPAs and I'd love to see them try a big Stout. But let's not get greedy. Cheers!

Happy Sunday friends! Weekend is winding down and I had a minute to fit in a review so I jumped on the opportunity. My dad gave this one to me today and I thought it fit perfectly with the Dogfish Head thread we have going right now. I was excited when he showed it too me but unfortunately he has a lot of old beer in his fridge. This one he just bought, but its past its BBD, well it just says March 24.

I didn't know this beer existed till he gave it to me and IMO it is quite DFHead like, its an "Italian" pils that is continually hopped for 60 minutes, clever name and concept from them.

    Dogfish Head - Un'ora ("Italian Pilsner" 5%)

Cloudy straw with yellow hue, pretty sticky white head, good retention and lace.

The nose is light, touch earthy, light lemongrass, some white bread sweetness, oxidized hops.

The taste is mostly stale hops unfortunately, good pale malt character though, little bit of ritz cracker character if they were a touch lighter in taste, bright and dry; some hop character does pop through still, as mostly grassy and slightly lemon like; unfortunately shadowed by stale hop.

Mouthfeel is nice; body is light, crisp, and you can feel the hops but it goes down very quick and clean, moderate bitterness on the finish.

So I’m not going to add to database cause of age but considering how many positive characteristics this beer has I bet it was quite good when it was fresher. I would definitely buy this if I come across it and it’s not aged like this can. Cool little idea Dogfish, now bring on more beers like this!
    -----------------------

Hope everyone has a good week, for some of us maybe it is a short one with Friday off, cannot wait. Spring break is the following week, wooooooo. Cheers everyone and hope you enjoy whatever beers you have today, I'm out beerwise till next weekend...now go fill up your cup

We had only two solid snows this year, so magical to get out there and play with the little ones, I love it. Sounds like you and the family had that same kind of magic yesterday too, and now, bring on Spring

4 minutes is pretty amazing; closest place for me, that I drink regularly is Tonewood, and thats 15 minutes. If they were 4 minutes away I'd be in trouble, new beer on tap, I'll be right there...
