It's B R E A K T I M E!! My driveway is cleared. The neighbor is next and it's raining again. The snow machine has 6 frwd gears and 2 reverse. I'm unable to go higher than 2nd gear with this snow. Bogging down the motor. Wow. A Warsteiner is needed so here she is. Cheers!

Chandeleur Island Brewing Barrier Island Lager

Light golden color with small white cap.

Aroma of graham cracker malt and floral hops.

Taste on entry is mild sweet malt and a much bigger hop presence than the scent implies. I get about a 60/40 hop to malt ratio and in a blind tasting would identify this as an IPA rather than a simple Lager.

Brewer promotes this as an easy drinking Lager and I mostly agree. It is a relatively simple and uncomplicated AAL style with a bunch more hops. Flavors are good but a bit unbalanced.

Are you staying in Coyoacan? I’ve heard good things about it, but only ever stayed in the city center.

    Yesterday The Rodenbach Grand Gru.
Now his milder sister. Basically same beer, less aging, more smooth taste.
A very refreshing and pleasant oak casked beer that will suit many people better that do not like the more extreme dry-sour taste of the bigger brother.

I like the Grand Cru better when it comes to taste. But the colour of The Classic is absolutely amazing.

Actually going on campus tomorrow afternoon to get a tour of the new Education and Research building - it's not scheduled to open until June. Should be pretty interesting, state of the art design. They've been working on this since 2020.

You are all so lucky to have me as a fellow-BA. Will put my health at risk to tell you all about the differences of a 20-21 vs a 19-20 Boon Geuze. 20-21 seems more value for money, the bottle is more full.

Although the age difference might be only half a year actually.

What other beers mature so much on bottle?

First difference. the older one was harder to open and more carbonated. More smoke, less foam but better retention.

Placed a DAB into a bit of Schlenkerla leftover. Like just a tad bit. Alright. I'm enjoying the obverse of this Monday. Cheers![IMG]

Younger one smells more round and fruity. Older one stronger drier oakier.
Makes sense.Colour and carbonation: i see no difference
Both are very carbonated, lovely small, vivid bubble. Head of older one is more dense with more rentention.

Young one: fresh tangy notes with the burnt rubber and dirty underwear yeast taste. A bit harsh and outspoken. Hope the older one is offerening a bit more balance.
O yes, not much difference, but taste a bit more bitterniss, a bit more in balance with the sourness. But too be honest, it is quite consistent. I think the main difference in between those two is the hops, also considering the quality of the foam. But it is marginal.
2019-2020 has been brewed with better quality hopps, this is what I assume.

Have two bottles left of both editions, Will try to let them rest for a few years and repeat this test.
