Lagunitas Brewing Maximus




Medium amber gold color with white cap and lacing.

I thought hops would be the most noticeable scent but found malt first. But then hops came thundering after. Malt is medium and hops are sharp spicy green.

Taste is very rewarding. At over 70 IBU I was expecting a hop explosion but that didn't happen, instead the beer showed a truly complex melange of malt/hop mixture. Malt is ever present with an underlying richness to balance the well blended hop recipe. A refreshing hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.

Overall this one is worth the high marks it receives, just a whopper of an IPA, a biggie size.

Myrtle Beach vacation beer: Contrition, a German Pils from Burial. Another brewery I like but don't have access to; unfortunately I found this very malty and borderline syrupy...not descriptors I love in this style. No date on the can, maybe it's ancient.

Lunch today is Boar's Head smoked turkey with caramelized onion jack cheese. Rain finally blew through after 15 hours of it. Fresh Jai Alai canned 3/13 for the lunch beer.
