I’m approaching this by naming several of my favourite local/easy-for-me-to-get breweries that I really like, and those from elsewhere I’d hate to never have again.

    Godspeed (Toronto)
    True History (Toronto)
    Brasserie du Bas Canada (Québec)
    Jever (Germany)
    Cantillon (Belgium)
    Urquel (Czechia)
    Hill Farmstead (US)
    Alchemist (US)
    Bottle Logic (US)
    Timothy Taylor (UK)

My tastes in beer change periodically. I’m firmly into the lager side of things at the moment, hence a few of the choices. I could have added some of my US favourites, like Suarez and Bierstadt.

True History is a new-ish local that is excellent and firmly in the lager side of things. They are releasing a historical Vienna lager in a couple weeks that should be similar to the one Goldfinger made last year. I love that they do this. 11 out 10 Canadian beer drinkers will tell you that Bas Canada is the best brewery in the country. They are correct. Best stouts, Barleywines, hazy IPAs in the country by far.

Six months ago, Barncat Artisan Ales would have been on this list. Sadly, they closed a few months back. They were the best brewery in Ontario.

Taylor is on there because they are really good, but also because they are the only really good UK beer that is regularly imported here.

    Cheers!

How I miss Timothy Taylor Landlord being on shelves near me. Even if it weren't particularly fresh, it was still awesome. Could be my #1 beer of all time, and that's coming from a lager nut like myself.

Of the breweries from which I regularly buy (ie, they show up with consistency in my house throughout the year), my top 10 are:

    1.) Fox Farm
    2.) Notch
    3.) Schilling
    4.) Jack's Abby
    5.) Treehouse
6.) Narragansett (actually, this one doesn't show up in my house, but I go to the brewery pretty regularly)
    7.) Aecht Shlenkerla
    8.) Sierra Nevada
9.) Mayflower (but I literally only buy one beer from them, their porter, which is phenomenal)
10.) Tie between Bitburger and Paulaner (as my affordable and quality German Pils provider)

Here's the core group that I still buy regularly and/or anything new they brew, despite the fact that I'm concentrating mostly on trying new breweries and buy anything else sparingly:

    Firestone Walker
    Founders
    Fremont
    Reuben's Brews
    Trappistes Rochefort
    Unibroue
    Weihenstephaner

Then the last three haven't really done much to get me really excited for a while, but have been favorites for so long they have to be on the list:

    Dogfish Head
    Sierra Nevada
    Stone

If I was doing this during fresh hop season, Stoup would have kicked one of these off the list.

    1.). Fatheads
    2.) Masthead
    3.) Noble Beast
    4.) Notch brewing
    5.) Beirstadt Lagerhaus
    6.) Brewery Vivant
    7.) Jackie O’s
    8.) Bookhouse
    9.) Sierra Nevada
    10.) Greyline Brewing

Here's my list of 8 favorite breweries mentioned in this thread:
I'll add Hofbräuhaus Traunstein and JW Lees to bring it up to 10.

Everyone can pick favorites however they like, but I don't need a taproom, corn hole, a mascot dog, variety or a silly number of beers in production. Just gimme a great beer.

...I toyed with throwing Bell's in the mix, but opted for a local brewery (Goat Patch)...not the same variety or quality, but solid beers across the spectrum that they produce...

  20. dele

    dele Zealot (694) Mar 13, 2019 Massachusetts

    1. Tree House
    2. Fox Farm
    3. Hill Farmstead
    4. Oxbow
    5. Brick and Feather
    6. Fair State
    7. New Glarus
    8. Sierra Nevada
    9. Allagash
    10. Lawson's

Bell's would have been included prior to Larry Bell's sale of the company to a multi-national conglomerate, who proceeded to destroy its portfolio of balanced, well-priced beers across a wide variety of styles. Sierra Nevada would have been higher back when it still sold more than just IPAs.
