Magnanimous Brewing Co. -- Juice Lord & Savior
Double India pale ale with Citra & Mosaic hops
    ABV: 8.5%; pouring temperature: 41 °F; n/a

    4.14/5 rDev -2.6%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured a cloudy, bright yellow-orange color; faintly opaque; thick, frothy, white head, semi-creamy texture and sloppily sculpted. Refreshing citrus smell; orange and other tropical fruits. Easy drinking flavor; fine combination of light biscuit and citrus fruit flavors; light citrus acidity; light to medium citrus rind bitterness. Medium-heavy body; lightly prickly on the palate; juicy with a trace of dryness near the finish.

This gorgeous beer has a more impressive aroma to greet your senses. The taste and mouthfeel don't quite exceed the greeting, yet this beer drinks easily. It is a well-rounded cloudy India pale ale and and enjoyable one to drink.

    Fort nonsense project lola pilsner
...clear gold appearance with a lasting white head
..about medium carbonation with a close to average body.
...aroma is a strong hit of yeast, yeasty bread, malt, grain and some mild earty vegetable.
..taste is at first just a touch sweet but then becomes bitter mid taste and again finishes earthy and malty. Definitely interesting, flavorful but easy to knock down.
...overall a very decent enjoyable beer[IMG]

Ein Prosit to @FBarber for this Worldclass Schwarzbier

Goldfinger Brewing Co. Black Lager, 4.6% ABV; 4.43 overall

Pours an effervescent mahogany with a thumb of tan head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Roasty grains, some charred notes, some smokey notes late

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, a whisper of Anise there as well up front. A little more dryness, some woody hops, & then flat out roastyness as this beer warms up, just a little chicory on the edges as well. More faint smokieness lingers as well. Finishes dry, roasty with some sweet smokiness & leafy hops; additional Baker's Chocolate bitterness too

MF: Medium body, low carbonation, no flaws here

Tons of flavor for the modest ABV; drinks great

As good a Schwarzbier as I can remember having, in forever

My dinner beer was courtesy of @Mikexw who sent me this in a trade- a foeder aged black lager from Shilling-
    [IMG]
Pretty sure this is the first Foeder/Barrel Aged dark lager I’ve ever had. It’s really quite good.
Poured coffee black with a 3/4” light brown head which leaves no lacing.
The taste is chocolate covered toffee on rye bread. Seems strange when I see it like that but I don’t know how better to describe it.
The feel is soft and very easy quaffing, no issues there.
OA, another very good beer from Schilling, thanks Mike!

Tree House - JJJuiceee Project Galaxy + Galaxy + Galaxy, thanks to @Roguer in NBS BIF #18

16oz can served in a gorgeous Monhegan pint glass. Can is dated 03/26/2024.

Pours murky grayish-amber with a huge fluffy head, settling slowly into a leather-topped lumpy layer. Smell is tropical fruit, in the papaya / passionfruit direction, juicy but resinous.

Taste is definitely more in the bitter fruit skin direction, though the tropical juice notes are quite clearly there. There's a vanilla creaminess in there, too.

Mouthfeel is big, fluffy and creamy, dry, light chalkiness. Overall, quite nice.

I meant to post this one earlier, gonna drop another one here in a few minutes, but got sidetracked. If you ever come to CT, you should get to Nod Hill Brewing IMO.

Having a light session beer while cooking dinner. This is Chesterfield Bitter from Nod Hill Brewing in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Beer is 3.5% ABV and I added it to the BA DB. I really appreciate this under hyped brewery in Connecticut. Well worth checking out IMO.

    onto my review:[IMG]

Picked up this beer at the brewery on a trip to many Connecticut breweries.
Pouring at cellar temp into my .5 L dimple mug. Can has no date stamp on the label or can.
The beer pours a clear amber to copper color and a fluffy khaki to eggshell white head of 1 cm foams up and fades quickly to a sturdy edge layer and one wispy island. Some limited lacing when I swirl or take a sip.
Aroma is some light caramel and toasted bread notes with a balancing black tea hop note. Unsurprisingly, no hint of the ABV on this low ABV session beer.
First sip reveals a light body with fine and fairly fizzy carbonation. Texture is very smooth and this beer drinks super fast and easy, which seems suitable for the style also.
Flavor is mild but hits the right notes, I get toasted dark bread, some light caramel and a bit of a tea bite on the finish. The finish also dries out my palate on each sip.
Pretty enjoyable session beer, glad to have tried this one, another winner from a very solid brewery!

    Slyfox slugger
    ...clear amber appearance
...medium light carbonation with a just below average body.
...aroma is malt, citrus peel and fruit along with earthy buckwheat honey.
...taste is an odd but pleasant mix of mild sweetness along with an almost dry earthiness.
There's malt and buckwheat grain and honey.
..Overall its a very drinkable ,enjoyable beer[IMG]

Okay this is a more timely post by me and cross posted in the What New England Beer are you Drinking thread.
My second beer of the night is Barreled Souls out of Saco Maine and their Deep Space Imperial Stout aged in Barton Bourbon barrels for 20 months and 1 day, (the extended aged). Beer is 16.2% ABV.
Picked up the bottle at the brewery and glad to share with my New England folks!

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 6/24/2022.
The beer pours a jet black color and doesnt allow any light to pass through the glass. A dense, but fizzy tan head foams up about .5 cm and fades to almost nothing a few minutes after the pour.
Aroma is some charred wood, molasses, a bit of fusol booze and bourbon and I also get some leather note here. The barrel character is pretty strong and doesnt seem to have imparted any sweet scents, also zero hop character on this one.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with fairly sticky mouthfeel that coats my lips on each sip. texture is leaning towards syrupy and carbonation is soft and almost non existent. Drinks like a big beer.
Flavor is similar to the nose, no hops anywhere. Some fudge, molasses, and bourbon are the bigger flavors. Some charred notes and leather come through on the finish and the beer definitely shows barrel character, and again not in a sweet way. No fusol boozy black pepper bite and surprisingly little warmth either.
I am enjoying this beer and think it checks the boxes, but it isnt in my top tier or Barreled Souls beers.
    4.16 in the BA DB

Very nice to hear about Tonewood's program, and there are a few others I have my eye on for the trip!

Also, Happy 5th Birthday to your youngest child!

To me, the bigger change was not the expansion to two days or removal of videos, though the latter caused me to skip a few weeks and stop entering beers on BA the past five years, since someone deleted my entire post including the review (vs. just removing the video) which I couldn't recreate since it was an out of town draft pour. Didn't want to lose any more reviews randomly deleted for whatever reason, so at the moment, I only have them in various threads since that point, and then electronically on my PC and phone.

I thought removing the regular hosts had an impact on a group of participants. I really like the planned opens vs. whoever (including me) randomly shows up Saturday morning, or perhaps Friday evening 'Merica time if the change this week becomes permanent. We've expanded it to 3-4 day NBW for Holidays, so not a big change IMO in terms of time coverage.

While I like the added days since I typically only have one beer at home each day, I do see how the one day aspect made the thread more exclusive or special in terms of bringing folks together for a tighter time window. Do wish the regulars who are still on BA but not necessarily in NBW/NBS consider returning, perhaps for New Beer Sunday #1,000 next week!

Very cool you have a chance for the rare Saturday night out with friends. Really enjoyed their Hey! song, thanks for sharing!

Looking forward to the final three digit New Beer Sunday tomorrow.

Big Lake Brewing - 3 Feet Under.
Saw this while perusing a local bottle shop and didn’t recognize it, though the last couple BA stouts that I have had from them have been very good, so I didn’t waste any time getting it out of the fridge and into my mix six carton.
First off, figured it was pretty old just because of the name. Couldn’t find it on the brewery website, and had to add it to the database here. Though it was on Untapped. Go figure.
    Anyway, the review-
Poured used motor oil black with a short, light brown head that left sparse lacing.
The taste has the normal suspects of coffee and chocolate with the addition of a dose of molasses. The can states it has 35 IBU but I think they are about 34 IBU high in this case. No hops presence at all could I discern.
The feel is pleasantly viscous, very smooth. Appropriate for the style.
OA, glad to have tried it but pretty sure I prefer their other BA stout more.
    Cheers, and good night!

Ozark Beer Co. Star Party DIPA, 6,0% ABV ( per their website chalkboard ); 4.25. Pink Boots beer

Pours a slightly hazed gold with a thumb of pearl colored head. Sheets of lacing & good head retention

    S: Guava, passion fruit

T: Follows the nose, pretty dry, a little tangerine & green melon & pomelo up front. More passion fruit, pomelo, dryness & lime once this beer warms up. Dryness, pineapple & lime meld with passion fruit & a kiss of guava

MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation; nice balance

Fruity/tropical IPA, not sure about the DIPA, does seem a little more hefty than 6.0. Fun, with great drinkability

Fox Farm - Föhn, "Franconian Kellerbier"

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 2/21/24. Got this can from @Roy_Hobbs in NBS BIF #18, though @Roguer also sent me one.

Pours clear dark brass-amber with a medium sized head. Smell is delightfully bready, doughy, grainy, light yeast funk, some honeysuckle and grain sweetness.

Taste is recognizably similar, lots of grain, sweetness is definitely muted though. I get a lot more woody and nutty bitterness. Grassy, earthy hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is super light and clean. Overall, this is very tasty and incredibly easy to drink, and I would love to buy packs of it. Luckily, I have a second can, thanks to @Roguer.

Crosstown Brewing Forager Honey Rye Ale

Light golden color with small white cap.

Aroma of sweet malt and dry rye bread.

Taste is more a sensation of sweetness rather than actual sweetness. There is a full richness to the malt flavor with a rye edge that seems both dry and spicy yet the overall effect is sweet. Brewer's website doesn't disclose any percentages of Rye or honey but both flavors are present. Hops play a small role here but the emphasis here is on honey and grain.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

This is an interesting beer. It looks good, tastes good and provides something a bit different in the sea of IPAs that populate our retail shelves.
