    Jacks abby coffee lager
    ..orange/amber appearance
...medium carbonation with about a medium body
...aroma is the strongest part and there's plenty of bread, crust, some cereal with fresh black coffee
...taste is again definitely bread, crust, malt and buckwheat with just enough black coffee to pleasantly affect the taste but not crush it.
...coffee in lager isn't something I would normally think of but this worked well[IMG]

@JackHorzempa - I used to gamble decades ago, but not hit Nevada to visit my brother and also as a stop off point into 4-5 + hour radius of road trips to state and national parks, and also for Southern California beer adventures.

Had plans to stop somewhere for new to me beers after my nephew's hockey game (they lost 4-3, had his first 10 minute misconduct penalty in several years of playing). It feels wicked cold with the win, so just took the train straight home and how have this near Chicago beverage.

    3 Floyds Jinx Proof

Can Notes: Purchased March 20 at Beer on the wall at store temps for $2.50, refrigerated at home until opening this evening. 12 oz canned 2/3/24, 5.7% ABV Lager. Brewed & Canned by Three Floyds Brewing LLC, Munster, Indiana.

A crisp, pale and refreshing lager with a light malt sweetness and plenty of noble hop notes.

Appearance: Slow poured just over half the can into a narrow pilsner glass. Bright white bubbly and creamy lacing linger for a few minutes before leaving clumpy lacing and a thick creamy cover over the straw yellow clear base with steady mild carbonation. 4.25

Aroma: Bready, cracker, salt and pepper. Grassy, floral, strong and pleasant. 4.25

Taste: Sweet bready malt base, noble hops keeping accesses in check. Light salt and pepper, works great for my warped palate. 3.75

Mouthfeel: Feels a little dull, not sure if the 10 weeks took it's toll. Drinks easier than the AVV. Not much carbonation lingers, drinks light and easy, more creamy and crisp, bread cracker finish. 3.25

    Overall:
This is pretty good, would like a fresher version to confirm whether this take is consistent. 3.5

Looking forward to hopefully warmer temps so I can enjoy more than one new to me beer on New Beer Sunday #1000!

...hey @ChicagoJ -- finally getting around to trying this 3 Sheeps beer...

3 Sheeps Brewing Co. -- Tenebrous - Bourbon Barrel Aged
    Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout
ABV: 11.3 %; pouring temperature: 44 °F; bottling info: LIMITED RELEASE (no date but likely a 2021 release)
Source: purchased at the brewery during their 13th anniversary celebration

    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Deep, dark, opaque pour; thin khaki colored head, long lasting and fairly creamy despite its thinness. Incredibly rich and sumptuous smell; dark roasted malt grains; a muted note of bourbon and barrel wood; cocoa; aged leather. Fine roasted grain and chocolate notes; bitter; low-key booziness. Heavy body; smooth; a moderate alcohol burn on the palate.

A nice if rather generic barrel aged imperial stout. The base beer does its job while the barrel aging definitely hits with the flavor and boozy heat.

    ---------------------------------------------------

...so, Jason, I liked this beer but wasn't overly impressed with it...wouldn't hesitate to score another bottle or two if the brewery has more squirreled away somewhere...maybe in another year or so I make another Sheboygan journey and see...

Lupulin Coconut Banana Demigod BBA Imperial Stout/Brown blend. This tastes like it's RBA, but can't confirm it. Pours black with a one-finger brown head that left no lacing but did leave a slight oily sheen. Aroma is banana and coconut. Taste follows, quite sweet, faintly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

A fitting beer for this day of the year…I’ve never got the whole 420 thing; it’s not different than any other day  I rarely think beers come close to smelling or tasting like cannabis flower but this one comes damn near close. I even went jar to glass a few times, tons of similarity on this one…

Dogfish Head - Covered in Nuggs (AIPA 6.7%)

Pours a very light orange gold; clumpy and puffy head, cloudy not murky, can see finger silhouette when held to light, some clumpy islands linger, very minor sudsy lacing.

What a nose on this beer, one of those beers that wows you as you pour; it just jumps out at you…incredibly bright notes of citrus zest, both lemon and orange, fragrant pine quality, underlying sticky dankness; some minor fruitiness.

The taste doesn’t let the nose down; sticky hops coat the tongue along with a really nice malt presence, little bit of earthiness presents itself along with the aforementioned citrus and pine, nice and sappy on the finish; the slightest hint of melon rind if you exhale from the nose while drinking.

Body is medium, resiny sticky hops coat the tongue and lead to a prominent bitterness on the finish, very clean drinking, little bit softness to it; quickly eaten up by bitterness.

This beer is real really good; it gives off heady topper vibes to me; drink very similar but just a touch more malt. It just has that same abrasive clean bitterness, just with a touch more fruitiness. Really neat beer.

I’m just gonna call this beer the heady version of 60 minute IPA.

    ————————

Gonna sit back and try and stay calm watching playoff hockey tonight. Sorry Massachusetts friends, GO LEAFS GO.

Tomorrow is a busy day so I’m hoping to contribute again but if not I’ll be hanging and drinking through all of you. Cheers and put in some hockey tonight!

Can't wait for New Beer Sunday #1000 tomorrow! For today, I'm drinking Scoop Scoop Scoop from the Bruery. A bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with strawberries, cacao nibs, and Madagascar vanilla beans. Comes in at 17.8% ABV!

Poured from a small bottle (thankfully!) at fridge temp. Pours very dark, but looks pretty thin. Definitely not a thick stout. Almost no head. The nose is really interesting. Definitely tastes like the Neapolitan ice cream of my childhood! Strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla! Crazy how this smell can appear in a beer. Also getting some bourbon, molasses, and graham cracker.

The taste is actually really nice. I was very skeptical when I saw that strawberry was in this one, it isn't overpowering here. Don't get me wrong, it's clearly in the taste. However, the bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla nicely balance it out and prevent it from dominating. Some black licorice, roasted malts, molasses, cherries, graham crackers, and a hint of cinnamon. I'm shocked that the ABV really doesn't come through at all. Dang! Tastes like it could easily be 10%, not 17.8%!

Mouthfeel is pretty thin, but the aftertaste is nice - mostly strawberry and vanilla.

Drove home from Maine today - relatively easy with some Boston traffic. Brought home lobster rolls to cap the trip. Waiting for the Bruins to start their Cup quest.

    In my cup is:

This is A Pinch of Grace from Mast Landing, an American IPA. It was canned about three weeks ago.

According to the brewer - Introducing our latest collaboration beer with our friends at Yakima Chief Hops, A Pinch Of Grace. This West Coast style IPA was brewed with new Centennial 701 & 702 trial hop extracts that deliver an amazing amount of hop character in an extremely condensed package.

Pours a nearly clear golden yellow color with a frisky soapy white head. Minimal persistence, modest cling to the glass. Ends up as a wide ring and a couple of rafts.

Smell...strong peach and apricot, substantial grapefruit and a little orange, a little resinous note at the end.

The taste is perfectly powerful peach initially, then equally powerful grapefruit both juicy and "rindy". Very little malt character, but there's a bit of crackery maltiness. Bitterness comes and goes but is present at the finish. The aftertaste is a fade out of peach, grapefruit, and a bit of resin as the main flavors fade.

Feel is light and lively. There's a bit of tongue-coating numbness and a lingering citrus peel sensation.

Overall, it doesn't seem all that special to me, fairly typical WC IPA. It's good, but could use a bit more maltiness in my opinion. I'm not sure whether the hop extracts are bringing anything to the party that matters to the consumer beyond what a WC IPA brewed conventionally delivers. Thinking 3.8-ish on the BA beerometer.

    From a 12oz can dated 11/09/23

This beer pours pitch black, and no light shines through it at all. It did look somewhat thick while pouring. The head is a very thick, 3 finger, brown color. Frothy looking and very long lasting. There's some pretty good lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a malty one. Roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, toffee, and a hint of dark fruit.
Taste - Lots of chocolate in this beer, and it's a very pleasing bitter chocolate. Hints of coffee, caramel, dark fruit, and toffee also show up in the flavor profile. The finish is a nice pleasing bitterness that cuts what sweetness there is.
Very thick body on this beer. Smooth and creamy. Very little burn in this beer.
Tasty stout overall, and happy I could try it.

See you all tomorrow for more new beers!

Cheer to @FBarber for this one. This is a style has a few misses with me

Pours a ruddy & effervescent chestnut with a thumb+ of tan head. Never drops bright, very good head retention & lacing

S: Toasty, green appleskins, brown sugar once warm

T: Toasty, brown bread, a little bit of woody hop up front, dryness as well. Woody hop bitterness, a little dryness & toastyness once this beer warms up, plus some green apple. Finishes dry, with a little toastyness, plus some astringency

MF: Medium body, dialed back carbonation

This one didn't excite me, strange bitterness to it, got a little better as it warmed up

This one has been staring at me for a while, and after the day of card games with the kids and eating cake decorated like a happy taco as well as actual brownies, it was time to take it out and try it.
Much to my surprise it showed as retired, and looking at the can gave me no clue how old it was, but it *has* been in my cellar a while.
Poured stout black with a reasonable dark tan head into a not quite as clean as I thought snulip.
The taste, well, chocolate starts with cocoa and needs sugar and cocoa butter to make it taste good. They got the cocoa but seemed to skip the rest. The vanilla is quite present, but it serves to amplify the lack of sweetness.
Interestingly enough, I got definite hints of bourbon at the swallow, like it got more alcoholic sitting in my cellar.
So not the pastry stout I expected, but a very interesting adjunct laden stout. I rather enjoyed it.
    Cheers!

Finishes with tangerine, pomelo & green melon, white grape, nectarine & a little dryness, just a kiss of pine last second

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance

Great drinkability really delivers the flavor!

Equilibrium Peanut Cloud Imp Stout w/ Peanuts, Marshmallows & Lactose, 11.0% ABV; 4.19 overall

    Locally purchased

Pours an effervescent Chestnut with instantly disappearing tan head. No head retention or lacing, viscous

    S: Rich chocolate, marshmallow, vanilla

T: Follows the nose, some dryness, a touch of caramel. A little booze once warm, peanuts as well. dryness, peanuts, chocolate & marshmallow as this beer warms up. Finishes dry with Marshmallow, cocoa & peanuts, a touch of shelll bitterness as well

MF: Medium/chewy body, reduced carbonation; warming

Purchased this around new years & wonder if the carbonation has tailed off due to age. Tons of flavor, great drinkability. This was easily the best of the 3 I bought from these guys at that time

    Good morning NBW
I start a week of nightshifts tonight, so it's an early one and done for this Sunday. I've been a fan of Rhinegeist for a long time, but never in a position to pick up one of their most iconic beers.
    Rhinegeist Ink

16oz can stamped 10/23/23 (assumably 6 months old) poured into a Spiegelau stout glass at just above fridge temp 10% ABV. The beer pours pitch black (like ink?) with light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island leaving a web of lacing behind. The aroma is mild with sweet milk chocolate, cherry and mixed berries. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with coffee and dark chocolate up front morphing towards the milk chocolate, cherries and berries in the aroma. Strong roasty bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, delicious and complex un-adjucted imperial stout.

There really is a masterful depth and complexity to this beer achieved using only malt, hops yeast and water. I would recommend trying it if you get the chance. Cheers all!
