Iced Bourbon Barrel Barleywine Ale from Central Waters. It's a whopper, coming in at 17.8% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice brown with basically no head. Bubbles throughout. The nose is definitely comes across as hot. Alcohol, toffee, ripe plum, a hint of pine, a slight earthy smell, and pancake mix.

The taste is really nice, although the alcohol punch is a bit much for me. Almost a fusel alcohol or solvent note. Makes it difficult to enjoy the rest of the beer. I can tell there are really nice notes of stone fruit and toffee, but they are hidden behind the mask of alcohol.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly harsh solvent aftertaste. Not loving it.

EDIT - I have let this warm up for a while and it's getting better. The solvent note is fading a bit. I am going to continue to let it warm and sample from time to time.

I'm with you. The three, four, or five year are all sublime. The iced version is just too potently hot.

Really liking this one. I thought the rum additive might be too sweet but it seems to not be the case. I like rum. I like barleywine. I need more like this.

Having some Old Money from Great Awakening in Massachusetts. Close to 2 years in Willett barrels, clocks in at 14.3% Thanks to my sister BBB for bringing this down!

This is one of those prune bombs. I love these. This pours very dark brown and pretty much still. Tons dark, dried fruits dominate. Prunes predominantly with some dates and figs coming along. The bourbon addition comes across mellow and very complimentary. Some woody tobacco, intense black strap molasses, and a hint of earthy spice like cinnamon round things out. This is damn tasty.

Huge thanks to Dan (@DIM ) for this one! #life unplugged from Alesong and New Image. A barleywine aged 6 months in Cognac finished bourbon barrels. Comes in at 14.11% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Not a sound when the cap came off, and looks still to me. Dark muddy brown color. The nose is burnt toffee, raisins, raspberry, and a nice malty layer. Not much else comes off the nose for me.

The taste is interesting. Very fruity. Dark fruit - a lot of blackberry. A slight solvent-like note from the alcohol, but nothing too dominant. There is some toffee and slight maple, but nothing is crazy strong. The bourbon is definitely there, and I attribute some of the dark fruit to the cognac finished barrels. A bit of citrus starts to come through with time. Really nice beer overall!

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with barrel-forward aftertaste.

Looks like they freshened the label, and this appears to have been bottled in December. Did they dial back the hops a bit? Seems to be leaning into the malt character more than I recall. I like it.

Seems like this would fit into this thread. 2022 Barrel-Aged Wee Heavy from Alesmith. Fantastic beer. They did such a great job with this one!
