Hey BA's - saw some Ayinger Maibock at the bottle shop but concerned about the bottle date, which reads L3327. I don't wanna make a mistake and grab last year's stash - any if you know how to decipher this?
It's not last year's: Ayinger uses a YDDD code, so your beer was packaged the 327th day of 2023, which is November 23rd. Surprisingly, they're not the only Bavarian brewery sending over maibock packaged in November: I picked up some Andechs Mai-Bock (AKA Andechs Bergbock Hell) that was packaged on November 13th. Here's a good thread with codes for German beers: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/date-codes-for-imported-usa-german-beer.658248/
Just bought a 4 pack today with code L3354. This appears to have been bottled on December 20 of 2023.
I’ve had it on tap too a bunch of times too this season. Run, don’t walk, if you see it on tap near you.
This beer is exceptional! Ive had it a year past it’s bottling date and it was still leaps and bounds above anything here in the USA. Not a knock on our breweries here, just wish it was more popular with them
Dunno. Another case of wrong place at the wrong time? My only complaint is that they don't brew enough and it sells out before I can get more. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/50290/654646/?ba=steveh#review As to Ayinger beers past their BB date, beware of the gusher -- seen it too often.
