This is one of my go to beers. Lately when I see Boston Lager the"Remastered" label addition isn't there. Dis they drop the "remastered from the table or did they stop making it? Or is the local distributer just getting rid of old stock?

I'd bet the marketing has run its course. Reformulated is now the norm.

BBC dates their beers well, so it should be easy to tell if you're seeing old stock.

It seemed like the idea was to replace the old version with the “remastered” process tweaks, so I think you’re right. I thought this was a really good move on Sam Adams part. I had the new version last year and definitely thought it was an improvement.
I think “remastered” is a whole lot better phrase than “new formula” which makes me think of either babies or chemicals, neither of which go along with beer, plus, I like the classic record reference.

I liked the original recipe better, but I have not done a side by side.
    Same for NB's Fat Tire.
Every time someone tries to "improve" on something, they usually end up making it worse.
    Not just beer either.
Maybe the only exception is Mega-Stuffed Oreos?

I never had Rebel IPA, was it any good? I miss the Sam Adam’s Boston Stock Ale.

I never had it. I just remember it being EVERYWHERE in 2017-18 and never seen it since

Quoting myself from a post I made a few weeks ago (4/18/24) in the WBAYDN thread while drinking a Boston Lager...

"I've seen people mention wondering if they were gonna ditch the "remastered" off the label at some point on Boston Lager. I noticed at the store today that the bottles with a best by date of June still have it on the label. The ones with a best by of July no longer have it on the label."

I think they dropped it off the label because they decided it has been long enough since the recipe change.

Very basic and nothing special at all, leaned malty. As far as SA IPAs go Latitude 48 was a decent one but what was really neat was when they did the deconstructed pack, where it was Latitude 48 but with a different single hop per beer.

I did check the dates. While the notch system is workable it does leave something to be desired. In this case the Oct was notched but it left me wondering if it could be a really old sixer from the year before. But it went down well, just seemed a bit darker than I remembered. Perhaps I've been drinking too many light (in appearance) lagers most of whom don't measure up to SABL.

NB's Fat Tire (new version) is a very different beer than the old Fat Tire. I tried it and thought I liked it but then I've never bought it again:slight_smile:

The corresponding year should be printed just below the notched month on the bottle label.

But don't the notched labels also still note the year?

EDIT - Like @steveh noted above just 1 minute before I posted this.

Looking around the TTB site for a recent example of BBC's label date coding, came across this:

I believe on the neck of the bottles in black ink is a Julian date as well.

The label looks the same but does not have the year listed. Interesting that is has the same image of the glass and the same number as appears in your picture.

That was hard to find and even harder to read, but you are right. Had to get a flashlight and shine it from the back to find that one.
