Found 2 bottles of ded poppy sitting on the shelf at a hole in the wall sandwhich shop, got a few questions:
I didnt look for a bottle date, assuming its 2012, is it still good?
Each bottle was $24 bucks, good value or overpriced? Assumimg over priced cause i live in pa?
Lastly, if its still good and fair price anyone want it?

I know some of you are thinking leave it for someone else, and typically i would agree, but i doubt this place attracts craft beer lovers...they had a 2009 angels share on the shelf too.

    Thanks all!

Standard pricing is $15 to $17 so that's pretty outrageous at $24. However, you'd be getting gouged on a pretty tasty beer.

That's definitely overpriced. It's $17 out here in Seattle. And that Angel's Share is probably flat.

But, much like Natalie Portman, flatness doesn't necessarily detract from the overall experience.

Are Lost Abbey beers supposed to be flat? We recently cracked 3 bottles of Cuvee de Tomme and 2 bottles of Angel Share and they were all flat. Not a single carbonation bubble.

I love how flat has such negative conotations and if a brewer refers to it as "still" all is forgiven.

"Still?" Did these guys previously run a water bottling facility?

I've had good luck with LA beers being carbonated. Not with Angel's Share, obviously. A carbonated Angel's Share is like winning the lottery. Carbonated or not, their offerings taste fantastic.

In regards to the OP, a friend of mine in Pittsburgh found a bottle of Red Poppy for $30, so $24 isn't the highest I've ever heard. You can still probably order it from the west coast and get it shipped to your door for less than $24.

I guess the sarcasm was not bold enough for here. I have had many flat LA beers and whenever I say that out loud some great defender of the realm of Tomme comes forth and spews the "still" babble.

$24 for a 375 of a Flanders Red is potentially the worst beer deal I've ever heard of. It's a nice beer, but I think even $15 for it is insanity.

Go get yourself a nice 750 of Rodenbach Grand Cru for $12 and revel in a better beer plus $36 in savings.

Nat just read your breast reference post...but agrees with your LA assessment! (she has mixed feelings)

you assume correct. it's a pretty tasty beer but there's other much cheaper, equally tasty flanders out there.

also agree with cbeer88 - Go get yourself a nice 750 of Rodenbach Grand Cru for $12. Or get a Rodenbach vintage for about $20 (its a 750mL).

The children rummaged through the weathered steamer trunk and their faces lit up with jubilant excitement, pulling a worn old artifact from the aged container

"Tell us about this one grampy!"
"Ah yes...this...this is a joke we used...used to say. We used to say Lost Abbey beers were all flat, yes. Those were simpler times-"

Each turned it over in their palms, examining the heavily used remnant from an earlier time, it was quaint in its simplicity and execution. Perhaps a new generation could find love for this long forgotten novelty, perhaps a new cadre could enjoy its gentle levity anon for years to come?
