    ...for simplicity's sake, I was a USAF techie back in the day (mainframes and long-haul secure communications), but, in one regard, screwed up by making rank too quickly...put me in supervisory and managerial positions instead of being a tech guy...greatly disliked that 'career move' although my performance reports and, better still, subordinate feedback, tell me ol' Sergeant Goot did well...still manage(d) to keep up with some tech thingies to this day...don't know if you saw my last post from yesterday's WBAYDN?, but have decided to try my hand at programming (again), this time learning Python...don't know how long that kick will go or to what extent, but I still love being somewhat tech savvy in this day and age...

    Thought i would test drive an Olde Hickory beer i am taking over to our tasting groups meeting tomorrow night. Yes, this should meet with approval for those that enjoy a BBA stout aged with Honey, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Cocoa & Habanero Pepper.

    I believe I'm familiar with some of that backstory... very cool and thanks for detailing.

    I'd imagine, from my military Dad's experience anyhow, that attaining rank beats satisfying hobbies on the job in the long run.

    My path went... Systems Admin (IT start) -> Software Engineer (Happy Geek) -> Management of Software Development (growing up to ~80 various devs/engineers across several teams) (Not so happy, but lucrative). Coulda/shoulda stayed in my happy place as a dev? Maybe. I'll find out soon enough when I return to the workforce after a 5.5yr fake retirement haha!

    Also, cheers to your use of Gnome DE. I knew you were a Linux guy, but if you ever report/follow issues on Gnome's GitLab you'll see me there under a very similar username.

    ...love Linux...early Red Hat fan and ultimately Ubuntu follower now...the primary reason I use Windows as my primary OS is photo / image editing software is so much easier to use (GIMP is powerful yet still clunky to use, in my opinion)...but, man, open source software (e.g., LibreOffice) is such a fine option...
