Double wine barrel aging is really cool for a Barleywine. As expected, this is rather sweet with tons of caramel and chocolatey tones, but the wine adds funky fruity notes to keep everything in check. It's a good night to slowly sip on something like this

Really pissed about the change to 16oz cans cuz the 12oz format was perfect, but at least price is the same .

Did you get to try the BOB 2.5? That shit is world class and no one cares about it...more for me:stuck_out_tongue:
It took them like a year to sell them all and it SHITS on so many hyped up Double Barrel Aged Barleywines.
I quietly drank half my bodyweight of them and i gotta say...amazing.

Your post also reminded me that i have a 2013 Old Jetty bomber that i meant to drink last year on NYE and now that i am COMPLETELY out of Imperial Stouts in my "cellar" ( went from about 60 to 0 this year) I'll be drinking it sooner than later.

    :beers:

Interesting sounding beer. I am in the FF distribution footprint, and I have Birthdaywine 9.5 in my queue to be enjoyed soon as well as Abruzziwine which i will crack down the road. Not sure if the price point>enjoyment but always fun to try! Glad it worked for you!
    Cheers!

Mother of all Bricks from Jackie O's and Pelican Brewing. Just as good as when I first tried it. Bourbon, sticky toffee, bread, dark fruit, and even a hint of bitter oak. Burnt toffee, caramelized sugar, and maple brown sugar oatmeal. Cheers!

Checking in on Bourbon County 2 year barleywine. About a year and a half on, this is tasting fantastic.

More dark fruit, less heat and oak than fresh I believe. Mellow brown liquor, leather, molasses, damn this is tasting good. I think this will be as good or possibly better for years and years to come.

I have a bottle of this one in the basement. I have not tasted this one yet. But I'm thinking about drinking it soon before the basement gets warmer now that summer is almost here. Or I could put the bottle in a warm area of a fridge until fall. I don't believe it's a good idea to store any beer above 50 degrees F. Then again I have too many beers in the cellar now and not enough fridge space.

Enjoying a 2022 edition of Jackie O's BA Brick Kiln. Getting tons of toffee with a slight touch of the barrel. Kind of one dimensional but still very delicious!

Here's an outstanding barleywine from @DIM - A Deal With The Devil from Tired Hands and Anchorage. This barleywine was aged in a single Basil Hayden bourbon barrel for 48 months. Comes in at 17% ABV.

Molasses, honey, a bit of black licorice, a flood of bourbon, oak, dark fruit, super sticky toffee. This is definitely boozy, but the sweetness nicely balances it out to avoid any negative heat from the high ABV. Just a lovely sipper! More notes over in the NBW thread. Thanks so much, Dan!

I actually drank this one last night, but didnt get to posting it, mostly since it was late and I ended up finishing the bottle and heading to bed with out the post. But did want to share, this beer is Eleven Below from 4 Quarters Brewing in Winooski, Vermont. AN 11% barleywine with maple syrup.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 22 oz bottle poured into my snifter. The bottle was picked up at the brewery during the eclipse weekend. Been in my cellar for the past 4 weeks.
the beer pours a clear copper color but rests in my glass a much richer ruby hue. A creamy beige head rests on the surface with about .5 cm depth. This foam fades to a thin edge layer and not much else soon after the pour.
Aroma on this brew is some sweet toffee and hints of brown sugar with a little maple syrup. No hop character and not really boozy on the nose either.
First sip reveals a medium body with slightly sticky texture. very gentle and spacious carbonation. Beer feels like a barleywine.
Flavor is toffee and maple syrup with brown sugar, but weirdly not overly sweet. I dont get any hop note and the booze is present in only the faintest black pepper bite on the swallow. No warmth or fusol notes.
This barleywine pretty much hits the notes I would expect for a beer with high ABV and maple syrup added. Id buy it again, and am enjoying it, but it also isnt worth chasing, if that makes sense.
