    Czig meister prospector amber ale
    ... dark amber appearance
..medium bodied with medium light carbonation that comes off a little prickly
..aroma is caramel, molasses, dark bread and grain.
...taste is definitely sweet but not overdone or syrupy. Theres caramel, molasses, dark bread ,roasted grains which gives it a bit of a dry bitterness.
..overall this was really interesting and enjoyable [IMG]

A beer I’ve almost bought many times but still have not. It seems pretty consistently reviewed as a sweeter maltier amber as opposed to hoppy, bitter and dry. If I do find a single I will give it a whirl though, I’ve only seen four packs.

My first (and maybe last) new beer for the weekend is A Deal With The Devil from Tired Hands and Anchorage. This barleywine was aged in a single Basil Hayden bourbon barrel for 48 months. Comes in at 17% ABV. This wonderful beer was sent to me by @DIM in a recent trade. Dan - I can't thank you enough for this one!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a super dark brown with basically no head. I'm trying to find the right superlative to explain this nose. It's pretty crazy. Burnt toffee is my first thought, but this has many layers. TONS of bourbon. I'm not super familiar with the taste of Basil Hayden, so can't say that this smells like that. Tons of heat, molasses, plums, figs, vanilla pudding, and definitely a dose of burnt wood.

The taste is equally intense and complex. Holy crap. The finish has to be the longest I've ever experienced with a beer. I'm still getting intense notes (that are evolving) a solid 10 seconds are the first sip is down. Molasses, honey, a bit of black licorice, a flood of bourbon, oak, dark fruit, super sticky toffee. This is definitely boozy, but the sweetness nicely balances it out to avoid any negative heat from the high ABV. Just a lovely sipper!

The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the aftertaste is sweet toffee and bourbon.

@jonphisher - Sorry you have to leave family under these circumstances. I had to fly somewhat regularly for work, one of the reasons I hung it up before the end of the 2010s.

I always booked first flight out, avoided last flight out, to avoid being stuck, never checked bags, and tried to avoid Mondays and Fridays, but sounds like you don't have an option on that front. If there is anything I can answer or help with, PM me, and I hope you being there in person will comfort both your family and friends you are meeting and yourself during this time.
    • @Roguer - Hope you give a San Diego recap in the Pacific Planning thread, as I'm curious as to your takes on several places.
    • @beergoot - It wasn't the bourbon dopplebock boilermaker that got me with @GreenBayBA 's selection but the Taco Bell red sauce.
Feeling better, but stayed home today and taking these nice and easy Chicago born and raised selection before the day is over. I've had their Czech Pils on many occasions, but this is their German Pils only available at their taproom on draft until this first ever packaged release. Dovetail used to be my "early" brewery in that area, but Hop Butcher For The World took the mantle, and I don't go to Dovetail as often as I did, or would if I lived where I did in my late 20s through mid 30s.

    Dovetail Pils

    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

My summary take: Overall: Perhaps not a fair day to put a beer to the test on my end. I'm enjoying, though I expected a bit stronger taste variety with my high expectations for Dovetail. I like their Czech / Bohemian version slightly more, but would give this beer and revisit the next chance I get. 3.75

Rated three straight Pilsners since Wednesday, Local Option's German Pils Outlawger holds the (4.01) edge over Hop Butcher For The World's Italian Pils Foletto (3.80) and Dovetail's Pils (3.70).

God willing I'll be back tomorrow with another style.

Glad you liked that one Tim! I thought they did the name justice with the 4 year version. I still have the 2 year to open. Not sure Tired Hands will do any more of these, they didn't sell fast at all. The rum barrel version is still for sale and I think they released them all is September.

Happy to hear that you are on the mend my friend!:beers:

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass, can’t read the date, but 3 weeks tops. Pours a very hazy attractive milky yellow with a near 2 finger sticky white head that leaves loads of thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 5

Aroma tangerine, pineapple, passionfruit, papaya, and apricot. 5

Taste follows straight up juice tangerine, passionfruit, papaya, pineapple, and apricot so balanced. 5

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8.6% plenty of flavor but the drinkability is off the charts. 5

Overall this is score that I don’t dish out often. I would not change a thing. Wow beer for me. 5

Sent to me by @Mikexw in a trade.
Poured darkly mahogany color with a beige head. After drinking it there was some sediment, but for a freaking 15 year old ale I can cut some slack.
The taste leads with raisins and a melange of other dark fruit. Okay, it follows with though I am not skilled enough to describe what else might be there.
The feel is mouth filling, not crisp, not thicc, just a pleasant middle ground that made this a great evening beverage.
15 years old. Still amazing. Thanks Mike!

Cheers to @FBarber this NBS BIF#18 brew. This didn't hit me the right way

Tripping Animals No Mames Lager ( American Adjunct ), 6.0% ABV; 3.03 overall

Imgur not letting up load pics, WTH???

Pours an effervescent gold with a finger of beige head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Some cereal & soap notes

T: Follows the nose, some lime as well, pus dryness, cornyness as well. Loads of corny sweetness, lime& soap as this beer warms up, plus apple juice notes, Dry finishes with way too much sweetness

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, skews sweet

Too sweet for me really to get into, not an Adjunct Lager for sure

Here's your pic Second row, second from right. F off IMGUR!

I used to travel a lot, but not for about ten years. Last time I flew thru Newark, there was a ton of construction going on in the terminals and armed soldiers, which will tell you when that was.

Its undignified any way you cut it, in my opinion, but you can help yourself. Get to the airport plenty early. First flight out whenever possible. Avoid checked bags whenever possible, and pack light on the carry on. Never get that last flight out either - they used to love cancelling those. If you have connecting flights, make sure you leave yourself time between.Try and scout out the airports as best you can. They always change gates and stuff, but you can get a general idea of the layout.

Keep a level head, try not to get stressed out - easier said than done. You are kinda along for the ride once you get to the airport. Check in with the home front - just a quick text on progress is what we used to do.

You'll be fine - to me the main stress was always time and connecting flights. First flight I could control - connections not so much.

Condolences to you and those involved who need good thoughts.

Mizzou Haul. Firestone Mind Haze Brain Melter Hazy Imperial IPA ( that's a mouthful ), 8.5% ABV; 4.0 overall

Pours a very hazed gold with a thumb of eggshell colored head, Lovely head retention & lacing

S: Bready, green melons, tropical fruit, tails off a bit once warm

T: Follows the nose, dryness, tangerines, papaya, mango up front. Hints of coconut sneak in along with dryness, tangerine & more mango as this beer warms up, a kiss of white grape as well. Finishes with a little Pink Grapefruit, nectarine & passion fruit & dryness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, good balance

Solid take on the style, sweetness detracts a little from the drinkability, but only a bit

Templin Family Brewing (Salt Lake City, UT) ‘Jesse Delmarish’ Lebkuchen Cookie BBA Imperial Stout.

Pint can brought to France from the brewery in Salt Lake City, UT USA. Poured into a taster’s snifter. Packed in November, 2023.
Visually bland, just a bleh of oily brew.
But then this treat comes alive! Festive aroma of warming spices., gingerbread, chocolate, big big bourbon notes with a little oak char,.
Taste is an all-night party. Rich and decadent.,.,.,., Imagine burnt marshmallow scraped from a charred whisky barrel. Full flavor ginger snaps follow in tandem with clove and nutmeg. Bourbon vanilla extract hits, and the barrel leaves a lonnnng and dry finish - with a final hop pinch, and then a sweet sticky lip kiss.
Just supurb art of the craft here.
Mouthfeel is medium, not thick, with medium carbonation.
Overall: Traditional “Lebkuchen Cookies” are given as gifts of affection during the the harvest season in the Franconian area of Germany. This bier was a true labor of love: aged for over a year in barrels, and named after TFB’s owner’s father.
    Small batch, big flavors.
    Simply wonderful.,.

A stunning 4.75 in the BA DB!

Terrapin Brewing Co. Depth Perception Imperial IPA

Dark Amber gold color with good white cap and lacing.

Aroma of a dense piney forest early in the day when the ground is still damp.

Taste is a double wide blast of malt and hops and I mean literally a double serving of both. A big whammy of flavors that make no excuses and take no prisoners. Relatively simple but big by any measure.

Full bodied texture with matching carbonation.

This is a true 4B, which is to say big, brawny, bruiser of a brew. Not a food beer and not for the timid.

I agree! I have a local that’s stocking several things.,. I have one of their smoked beers in the fridge.

I dig Labietis’s forward-leaning concept of infusing herbs into their creations.,.

Good day BAs! Back with the final "NBW" beer - the next New Beer will appear tomorrow. Today's unseasonal entry into this illustrious lineage:

Mashing Pumpkins - from Beer Tree Brew. 16 fl oz can purchased from Franklin Beer Co, Franklin, PA, 06/05/24, $ 2.00 (Including tax), $ 0.125/fl oz. Reviewed 12/05/24 (Review 3277). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom lip of can stamped “09/13/23”. Stored on a room temperature shelf at the distributor, 34 degrees at home. Served at 45.1 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 51.4 degrees F.
    Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Pale Gold (SRM 4), nearly opaque.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6, opaque. Under direct light, hazy with a few particles evident. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Average (Maximum two cm, aggressive center pour), bronze, high density, average retention, leaving neither crown nor cap.
    Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – A bit sweet with mild nutmeg and clove. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (5.6 % ABV as marked on the label). Not noticing any pumpkin either.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins sweet with nutmeg and clove – there may be a hint of cinnamon as well. No yeast, no malt, no alcohol, no pumpkin. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Weak gastric warming, probably from the spices.
Palate – 3 – Medium; almost syrupy; soft carbonation.

Final Impression and summation: 3.5 Final pour dumps some snot into my glass, so am I dealing with bacterial glycocalcyx or remnants of the missing pumpkins. Whatever, I’ll allow my home drain to deal with it. Too bad – up to this point it was a passable spiced ale.
