Nice to see you @Coronaeus hopefully you’ve just been busy MIA as of late. Sounds like a great family time together weekend, and always a win when one can procure beer out of it.

I have the perfect response to this post for later today, or tomorrow if I run out of time

    Athletic brewery lite
    ..pale light gold appearance
..medium carbonation with a slightly thin body but overall a decent feel
...aroma is mostly cereal and grain with a fermented hop thing going on
...taste is more interesting than aroma with again cereal and grain dominating followed by a slightly sour fermented element.
..overall these are tough to review and comparing apples to apples this isn't one of the best but works for me when I cant have the real thing[IMG]

I've always been interested in Area 51. Visited other areas to the far south and west near Mercury as part of Department of Energy Nuclear Test Site tours, which I highly recommend if you can swing them.

This review goes out to all the beers stuck at nine ratings, needing just one more to become alive in the Beer Advocate database.

Full review linked in the beer title above. Perhaps my senses aren't as sharp as they should be, but I enjoyed my tacos and hot sauce earlier but this came out bland beyond sweet corn and malt. Not for me, though I seem to be in the minority in terms of score and treatment.

    Forest and main house lager
..fairly clear light amber/gold appearance with a long lasting thick white head
...just below average carbonation with about the same for the body
...aroma is yeast, crusty rustic bread, cereal with some malt and earthy honey in the background
...taste is yeast, yeasty crusty white bread, cereal and grain. Very mild sweetness thats mostly hidden by a grainy sourdough taste
...overall its a really interesting take on a lager, very enjoyable [IMG]

Off the wagon for a few days.
Gotta catch up on a little backlog of new-to-me beers!
    First up from Trillium:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30654/698790/

Brewed in collaboration with Untold Brewing, Scituate, MA.
    Canned 04/04/24.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch off white head over a hazy light golden body with virtually no lacing.

Nose of citrus and stone fruit.

Taste of citrus (orange, slight lemon) and blueberry and finishing quite fruity and berry-like.

Good mouthfeel with near medium carbonation.

Overall, a quite tasty Bru and shouldn't be overlooked.
    Cheers!

Sampling this beer after receiving a trade from @not2quick thank you! This is 2nd Shift brewing in St Louis and their Technical Ecstasy czech style pilsner. the beer is 5.4% and has been in my cellar since I received the trade recently.

    onto my review:

I am sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can , date stamped 4/1/2024 packaged on date. The can has been in my cellar since I received it in a trade.
The beer pours a bright clear golden color with several active streams of carbonation rising to the surface. A bright bleached white fluffy head of 1.5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy foam that sticks around for most of the sampling event.
Aroma is some saltine crackers and a bit of grassy hops in a fairly balanced nose. Not boozy at all which checks out for the style.
First sip reveals a lighter body smooth texture and very fine carbonation. Beer drinks very easy which is also suitable for the style.
Flavor is some grainy notes and a little bit of crackery malt also. Finish rolls to some grassy and herbal tea hops. Finish also dries out my palate a bit after each sip.
a clean drinkable pilsner that I am enjoying and that continues to encourage me to drink more after each sip.
    tasty clean, brew.

Truth Tahitian Vanilla Bean by Tree House

    4.49/5 rDev -0.9%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Brewers notes: Tahitian Vanilla Bean Truth is a twist on the original version of one of our favorite barrel program offerings. This variant has been aged for over two years in select wheated bourbon barrels and then conditioned upon heaps of purposefully selected Grade A Tahitian vanilla beans. Much like the original, it pours a viscous black color into the glass with a mocha-colored head. When poured cold, the flavor profile leads with chocolate wafer cookies, bourbon-vanilla heat, and rich dark chocolate. As it warms, the individuality of this vanilla truly begins to shine, revealing a delicate floral quality, hints of anise, and dark cherry. It is our hope that this beer brings you a bit of the familiar with a splash of the unknown.

Red waved and capped chilled bottle poured into a teku, black syrup, crowned by a dense brown pencil thick foam that recedes to a ring

    Aroma is bourbon, vanilla,

Taste is bourbon, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, cherries, bakers chocolate , molasses, sweet soy sauce

Mouthfeel is slight sudsiness, thick, rich, syrupy, indulgent, sweet, boozy

    Good beer

Gonna join you all this evening with a beer courtesy of @Providence, I was really excited when I saw this can when you sent it. I’ve seen several of you post about it and was very curious to try. Plus it brings us the complete reverse of @Coronaeus post…

As @Coronaeus sips on a zoigl north of the border in a glass from me, I sip on a zoigl south of the border in a glass from him…his is darker mine is lighter…

    Fox Farm - American Zoigl

Pours lightly darkened gold; white head, not much retention; mostly clear with light chill haze.

Enticing nose, some citrus, hay, green grass, light floral and herbal, lighty swet cracker, bright, aromatic and balanced.

Taste has a unique flavor that I can only describe as rustic; cracker like but lightly sweet, ritz, whisp of toasted grain and husk, finish has an earthy bite, it’s grassy but very prickly.

Light medium body; some hop stickiness, punchy bitterness, it finishes clean; the light sweetness in taste dries out.

    ———————

Thanks for sharing this one Jesse, it was a really fun beer to drink.

Gonna listen to the drizzle fall in the background watching the hockey game with Mrs Phisher, a peaceful quiet evening with a solid beer.

See you all tomorrow with another BA beer and a final Charleston beer.

Our 15th anniversary was two days ago. We dropped the kids off at their grandparents this morning, went out to a few beer spots, and then drove to a cabin we got via AirBnB around the base of Mount Rainier. No view of the mountain, but we haven't had much time to look, because we jumped immediately into marinating steak in a coffee stout, marinating onions (for a steak sandwich) in this Tayberry sour, and making a chocolate raspberry mousse for dessert (to pair with a 3 Fonteinen Hommage.
    E9 - Tayberry Farmhouse

375ml corked/caged bottle served in a wineglass. Batch #6, though the handwriting is hard to read. Bought it at Chuck's Hop Shop last night.

Pours clear purple-pink, big frothy head on the pour, pretty good retention, holding on to a couple millimeters thickness in the middle. Smell is jammy, a little yeasty funk and a little bit of mild earthy/spicy. But jammy is definitely predominant.

Taste is much tarter than I expected. Definitely in the tart berry zone (not sure what tayberry tastes like), still pretty jammy. Funk/farmhouse yeastiness is gone in the flavor, or at least almost gone. Maybe a hint of oak. I've never seen a raspberry soda, but this is moving in that direction.

Mouthfeel is super light, clean, dry. Overall, this is really good.

    Czig meister tiramisu
...appearance comes off like flat cola,no head
...body is a little thin with almost zero carbonation, not the greatest feel.
...aroma is vanilla, mild black coffee, heavy cream is very strong. Does come off like vanilla cream soaked cake.
...taste reminds me a bit of vanilla coke, which is not necessarily something I enjoy.[IMG]

American Solera collab w/BKS Artisan Ales ( Kansas City ) Enjoy the Flavor Wave 3X IPA. 10% ABV; 4.12 overall

With Riwaka, Citra, Motueka, Cascade & Nelson Hops

Pours a very hazed amber/gold with a thumb of eggshell colored head. sheets of lacing & above average head retention

S: Some citrus & tropical notes, hints of peach

T: Passion fruit, lime, rhubarb, powdery dryness & bitter orange up front. Dryness in spades, lime peel, bitter oranges with a bit of sweet passion fruit, guava on the edges, plus white grapes as this beer warms up, some woody hop notes too. Finishes pretty dry with passion fruit, white grapes, woody hops & a faint kiss of nectarine sweetness

MF: Medium body, tamped down carbonation, nice balance

ABV is well hidden. Was hoping for more the suggested Juicy Fruit flavors alluded to on the can art. Loved that gum as a kid. Good, but had protentional for greatness. Drinks like an IPA half as potent, caution!

2nd and final beer for the day. Soccer tourney day #2 tomorrow. so early to bed for this coach.
This is Hardywood Brewing in Richmond, Virginia and their Gingerbread Stout. A 9.2%ABV brew. Beer was a Christmas present.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can with datestamp of 10/25/2023. Part of a Christmas gift to me. Woot woot!
Pouring into my snifter the beer exudes a dark coffee color in the glass and no light passes through. A dense beige head of .5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer that remains through the sampling.
Aroma is a malty gingerbread cookie mix. I get cinnamon, ginger, molasses and vanilla mixing with some toffee notes. Not really chocolatey like many stouts. Pretty spot on nose for a gingerbread cookie.
First sip reveals medium body with very fine tingly carbonation and slightly oily texture. Feels a little coating on each sip.
Flavor is some molasses and brown sugar, moves to cinnamon and a little milk chocolate and finishes ginger and cinnamon. I dont think there are any hops in this beer and the ABV is pretty well hidden too.
this is a tasty sweet stout, that has some balanced spiciness too. Im glad to have tried this one and would enjoy it even more in front of the fire with snow falling outside. tasty stout

...taste is the great cup of black coffee with the vanilla being stronger than the aroma suggested.

Packaged on 5/6/2024 - enjoyed on 5/18/2024 - poured from a pint can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Unclear aureolin body with a fist of messy stiff peaks up top. Thick ropy lacing, excellent retention.

Grassy, citrus-kissed, and lightly dank aroma. Gentle overall.

Potent palate entry, with the flavors largely following the nose - lime, alfalfa, vanilla wafers, chamomile/thyme/rosemary, and faint berry/melon notes. Moderate, but persistent bitterness. Mosaic, Motueka, and Strata work well together, though the overall flavor is a bit muddled. Crisp medium-dry finish.

Light-bodied and refreshing yet creamy and smooth.

Pretty good, and in some ways more "drinkable" than Swami's, though less rewarding (and slightly more expensive) by comparison.

Epic Brewing Big Bad Baptist Black Forrest Cake ( Aged in Whisky Barrels ), 12.2% ABV; 3.67 overall

Pours a chill hazed mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Viscous, zero head retention & lacing

S: Loads of dark fruit, leafy hops, dark chocolate once warmed up

T: Follows the nose, a little booze-soaked cherry with a little cocoa up front. Cocoa, a little mocha, dark cherry, woody hops, also some leafy hop notes mix with dryness once this beer warms up, hints of cola as well. Dark chocolate asserts a bit more, along with woody hops, pipe tobacco (cherry notes)

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, warming

This was alright, was hoping for so much more. Always a drag to open a large format bottle by yourself & get only better than okay beer. Whisky barrel presence is on the fringes

No beer for me today. The missus and I sing with a show chorus and it's concert weekend. Dress rehearsal last night, performance tonight and a matinee tomorrow. As anyone who has been in a performing group knows, the work starts way before the lights come on nor does it stop when the last note fades. We're a little beat!

Crappy week, too, so the music as usual provided a much needed therapeutic outlet. In the sucks getting old category, we are looking into long term care insurance and lets just say the whole process f-n sucks. A long-time colleage I've know since Day One of my 44 year career passed away from pancreatic cancer - two years older than me and he was very close to me and my band of merry men. Also, one of my best friends whom I actually mentored was let go and for the moment it's all quite mysterious. He was working in one of our western locations so we'd grown apart a bit, but many memories. So I'll have a new celebratory/emotional support beer tomorrow.

@jonphisher - good to see you back apparently none the worse for wear and drinking Jesse's beers.

@snaotheus - happy anniversary. Looks like a cool celebration - cherish the times!

Good to see the regular crew and some not so familiar names in the thread. If you are new or an occasional participant, welcome to the best hangout on BA.

From a 16oz can, no date on the can.

This beer looks like motor oil when I pour it into the glass. Pitch black in color, with no chance in hell of any light shining through at all. The head that forms is quite thick at 3 fingers. The head is brown in color, and very long lasting, even more so when you consider that this is a 13% beer. There's some great lacing on the glass as the head dissipates.
The aroma is dominated by notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee. The nose isn't too strong, but it is pleasing.
Taste - The chocolate notes are very strong in the flavor. The chocolate flavor is slightly sweet, but not overly so. There's notes of coffee along with the caramel and toffee. I am getting a nice hint of bitterness on the backside that cuts the sweetness a bit, though, the sweetness is not too strong.
There really isn't a burn from this beer, even though it is 13%. Nice thick, rich, and full feeling. Smooth, and almost creamy at times.
Damn delicious. The nose is a bit light, but it really makes up in the flavor department.

I'll see you all tomorrow for more new beers. Cheers!
