Just completed a blind taster with maibocks from Bad Weather, Waldmann and Town Hall. Results, scores (1-100) and brief thoughts.

    1. Bad Weather: (88) Most rounded and rich maltiness...solid but not close to the Andechs Maibock I had recently at Gausthaus near Stillwater...that would be a 99 probably..

    2. Waldmann: (81) Decent but a bit sharp with the hopping. I understand Maibocks will lean the most hop forward out fo the bocks but this seemed to push it a bit far..

3.Town Hall: (62) Sourdoughish...out of place sour impressions...I've been a big fan boy of Town Hall for many, many years (20+) but this has me concerned if this it what they put out this year for a maibock..

Kind of surprising for Town Hall. 3 very solid breweries there too.

Yeah I agree. I had no idea what was what but had heard from a source this year's Town Hall Maibock was lacking and that's how I saw it blind too...usually one of my favorites and love their Blessing of the Maibock event...might have had a couple too many one time maybe 2018ish........

Just musing and I have no substance to this thought but I know Hoops was commuting from the Grand Rapids area at one point...I wonder if he pulled back some...or maybe he left? I have no idea...the Hoops boys know how to brew beer...that is for certain..

It's too bad you didn't try the Maibock from Urban Growler. The best one I had in the Metro area this year!

Good to know for next year. They do generally clean beers there so that doesn't surprise me...never had it though..
