I have a lot of boxes of beer that are long overdue sending. I just got done purchasing a very large quantity of beer that is not for me. I'll start packaging today.

    Wild Mind - Bicycle Day

16oz can served in a Monhegan pint glass. Don't see a date. Got it from @Victory_Sabre1973 in NBS BIF #18.

Pours clear light yellow with a big, short-lived head, moderate active carbonation. Smell is lemon and vague citrus tartness, grapefruit rind, almost a kettle sour aroma.

Taste is sweet grapefruit soda, lemonade, vanilla/marshmallow, maybe a little grass.

Mouthfeel is medium and surprisingly still, almost chewy. Overall, it's pretty good, richer and heavier than the abv would imply.

Nice review. That’s another that won one of those award thingies, once. As a Kellerbier. They “rebranded” as a German Pils at some point. No idea what they’ve gone and done since, but I’ve generally enjoyed it as a lighter malty but grassy-to-herbal bitter brew - along the lines of what you found.

    Stella artois liberte
...clear pale gold/orange appearance with a thin but lasting head
...around medium carbonation with a bit of a thin body
...aroma is grassy, cereal, corn, yeast and an odd malt earthiness
...taste is similar to aroma in a fairly pleasant way but..there is some skunk in there which isn't much but definitely there
...overall for what it is I like it but the skunkiness takes a point off.not the best contributionto new beer weekend but @jonphisher got me pumped up to get to 11 pages[IMG]

Hey I said ten, it was @snaotheus that upped it and said eleven. I may bend the rules, sort of, tonight; depends if Mrs Phisher is down to help or not.

NBW will probably not get to 10 pages this weekend, since many people have plans, but we will soar past 10 pages the weekend of the epic beer share I am hosting on 7/20/24 at 3 Sheeps Brewing in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Everyone is invited. Everyone in this thread should consider joining us. You could review the pour of Toppling Goliath Brewing's Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout I give you.

    Glass Jug - Summer Zest

16oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Can is dated 4/18/24. Sent to me by the illustrious @Victory_Sabre1973 in NBS BIF #18.

Pours a slightly hazy orange-yellow with a fairly large head and moderate retention. Active carbonation is visible at rest. Smell is lots of citrus, leaning toward lime probably because I read it on the label, maybe some grass and bread.

Taste is definitely dominated by the citrus additions, and again I lean toward lime most likely because of the seed planted in my brain by the label. There's a strong grain theme in the flavor, though, that was barely present in the nose. There's almost a vanilla creme thing in there, too.

Mouthfeel is creamy but not thick or sticky. Overall, this is nice, the most stand out characteristic is definitely the citrus. Lightish and easy to drink on a sunny day.

Well, with old beer roulette sometimes you lose one.

    Troeg's Impending Descent RIS.

Short and sweet - this didn't age well at all. Flat, oxidized, slightly soured. There are remnants of good flavors of roasty malts, chocolate, dark fruit, molasses. But it's headed for the sink. Cross posting with the RIS thread.

Mrs Phisher had agreed to help add another beer…

Well my first beer was called Sunnyside Dweller does a sunnyside dweller not live off of sunshine??? I believe they do, so I’m going to sip on some sunshine…

Wait, of course I’ve had this beer before, but it has been quite some time, like really long, and never reviewed, and fate because of my last beers name, so I figured I’d add it to the mix for the good of beer and sharing. Forgive me @HoppingMadMonk for I have sinned.

Lawsons - Sip of Sunshine (DIPA 8%)

Pours a brassy color, clear off white puffy head, ok retention.

Nose is so bright and vibrant; it’s like the can says, “tropical vacation,” but it’s clean and refreshing tropical; as if those tropical fruits had a pine like brightness, there is a little sweetness to it too.

Taste is a moderate dose of maltiness; the tropical notes are back but cut deeply by resin and pine like quality in the hops; the do not fight one another but balance one another out.

Medium in body, but definitely towards the higher end, biting and tingly bitterness on a quite clean finishing beer, there is a light warming from abv but the drinkability wins out; dangerously drinkable beer.

    ————————

Perhaps I shall keep this sunshine theme going tomorrow…

    Seven tribesmen mexican lager
...light amber appearance with a lasting white head
...body is about medium with the carbonation about the same
    ..aroma is non bitter citrus,floral honey,sweet grain/cornbread
..taste has mild sweetness with with some bitter hops. Has a sugary cornbread like finish that lingers.
...overall its very enjoyable and could have a few in a row[IMG]

Barrel-aged Old Rasputin. This is a new release that was aged in single malt Westward whiskey barrels. Comes in at 12.2% ABV

Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a solid inch of light brown head. The nose is fantastic. This one still screams RIS with big roasty notes. Coffee grounds, dark malts, and dark fruit. Biscuits. A nice layer of bourbon, vanilla, and toffee come through, although to a lesser extent. Just a beautiful nose on this. Old Rasputin still shines bright and the barrel hasn't overpowered anything.

The taste is really nice. The barrel makes more of a presence here. Vanilla, slight booze, roasted malts, black licorice, chocolate, blackberries, tobacco, coffee grounds, and some burnt wood. A hint of leather comes through as well. Lovely integration of barrel with the Old Rasputin backbone.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied. Some will say this is too thin, especially compared to the thick stouts coming out these days. But this body is perfect for the traditional RIS. Love it.

Pours an effervescent amber with 3 fingers of fluffy ivory colored head. Really good head retention & lacing

S: Cakey, peaches, green melons, booziness late

T: Follows the nose, passion fruit & guava s well, plus dryness & a little grassy hops up front. Cakeyness, green melon, pomelo & peach, plus pineyness as this beer warms up. Finishes old school, piney, cakey with a little green melon & guava

MF: Medium body, subdued carbonation; great balance

A nice nonsense DIPA with some slightly modern tweaks, drinks fine. Will buy this again without hesitation

Fort George - Three Way IPA
This is an annual release from Fort George, they collaborate on an IPA with two other breweries. Some years they have multiple versions. If they're having multiple versions this year, this is the first one -- as far as I know, it's the only one out right now. Anyway, it's a collaboration with Brujos and Ghost Town.

16oz can served in a giant snifter. Can is dated 05/20/24. Got it at Chuck's Hop Shop Seward Park earlier today.

Pours clear brassy gold with a big fluffy head, settling moderately quickly into big clumpy lumps with thick chunky lacing. Smell is tons of bright citrus...just tons of it. Smells real nice. Smell is very WCIPA with a bit extra fruit and honeysuckle.

Taste dives just a bit more into the bitter, divests itself of any juiciness without dropping the bright citrus theme, nice pine bitter.

Mouthfeel is light and clean. Overall, really nice moderately new school WC IPA.

Likely only one beer in me today, so opted for a light and easier one. Nice you scored a Sip of Sunshine Jon @jonphisher and your continued trade booty from Craig @cjgiant .

This suburban brewery opened in their current Barrington space last December 19th, and hope they do well.

    Overall:
Feeling better, but not 100% so perhaps impacting my perception, but this is a sweet OK Pilsner. Would consider a second go for science, but mediocre my first stab. 3.25

Have another suburban brewery planned for tomorrow. Cheers!

    Well Hellooooo NBW.
Rough week, time for my Mystery Beer, courtesy of @zeile33 , sent in NBS BIF #18.
Well this bad girl pours like oil! And as you can see, she's a dark beauty, obsidian comes to mind.

Initial impression is an Imperial stout.
Nose gives hints of a smokiness that is down right deep and complex. Not particularly roasty but smokey. As I move beyond the initial smoke, I pick up a profound wet oatmeal note that slowly rises in sweetness. Almost like a soaked buckwheat pancake meets bread pudding. Eventually some caramel notes chime in, as well as a hint of pemmican. I know that sounds strange, but pemmican with a very light nod towards umami.

Wow the viscosity on this is abundant. Yes, she is sweet but there is an immediate warming as well. There's a slight nuttiness but there is something I'm trying to nail down, I am really leaning toward a gentle-handed barrel aging in the vein of apple brandy? Maybe.
But as it warms, there's a toasty note that is hard to nail down, it adds a depth to the sweetness that "definitely" (should I be so bold?) is revealing some whiskey barrel. I'm now getting some bright Bourbon sweetness in the overall rounding out of this elegant lady. Again, I come back to the thick, decadent drink that is like old school burlesque. She languidly reveals herself. Captivating.
