Does anyone have an example of a whirlwind brewery from their state? And by that I mean a place that maybe started out small, had little to no distribution, only to later climb the ranks, or was even bought by a major company? California has 5 major transactions alone with Ballast Point (and their fall), Green Flash, Stone, Lagunitas, and Anchor. Along the way, a lot of “smaller” moves have been made too. Green Cheek’s three current brewing locations have been all takeovers from failing breweries (Valiant, Barley Forge, Bagby). Then you have Alpine’s weirdness with Green Flash; and I’ll end with a brewery that I love and am drinking right now - Moonlight. For years they only distributed kegs in the Bay Area (maybe once a year one would come down to Southern California at Beachwood as a guest tap), and then all of a sudden they were in the Lagunitas deal with Heineken. Of a lot of bad results coming from corporate takeovers, Moonlight’s has actually been a successful one. It allowed them to finally open a tasting room, and start canning - which equaled at home shipping throughout California. Even more, Heineken sort of let them go, and from what I know, Jason Rue (founder of The Bruery) bought a stake in them, and now we see their cans and kegs locally. The first time I had their beer was during a trip up to Big Sur and San Francisco in 2013, where I had some of their stuff at the amazing Toronado. Since then, I had their cans at my wedding reception, and again, can enjoy them now with a quick trip down to my local shop. Here! Here! Moonlight. Here! Here!

On a pretty cool for late May morning, sipping on Trappistes Rochefort 10 should be more than a consolation over this crappy spring, or instead never ending fall. Screw whining about the weather. I have a roof over my head, a beer in front of me and a lovely partner. Who am I to complain about the suns whims?

    Cheers!

Morning all and thanks to @RaulMondesi for starting off today's bar. My home county is home to Wychwood brewery of Hobgoblin fame. They've been brought out by Marston's now though.

Moonlite by Hattie Browns at The Fox Inn in Corfu.

Hope for two Russian Imperial Stouts today to get me on track for our tasting. Have a new beer planned in between the two after time elapses so this heavy hitter doesn't impact.

    Bell's Expedition Stout (2018)

Russian Imperial Stout Tasting Link, includes comparison vs. 2020 and 2023 conducted Halloween 2023. Bottom line, 2-3 years out seems to be the sweet spot for this beer, fresh would be next option and 5-6 plus years too old, consistent with most beers, IMO.

Will piggy back on @Shanex musical artists, and assuming no hail or tree damage today, no complaints about our weather, though really have enjoyed our Weather here from Fall forward, much better than expected.

Taking a break from grinding up horseradish. If you've never ground horseradish, it's worse than chopping onions. I've been crying and blowing my nose for a half hour! :sob: But hey, what's a hotdog without horseradish?

A very opaque looking DIPA, I guess it’s sort of thick too. Also I see it’s sunny over in NH this morning. Right beer at the right moment. Cheers.

Grating horseradish is truly a love/hate thing for me. My father was Polish and every year we grated horseradish and mixed it with beets to have for Easter. I carry on the tradition. This was last Easter's homage.

The day started at 4am prepping to get a 7lb flat smoking. I'm more than ready for a beer! Digging in the old KBS stash with a 2019. Holding it's own after 5 years. Sometimes I think I'll be drinking these in perpetuity. Cheers V-barflies and enjoy your Sunday!

Swashbuckler Negra Mexican style lager at FlavorFest at the Mt.Hope Winery and Renaissance Fairgrounds.
9 bucks for a 20 oz plastic cup, filled to the brim.
It's not bad, it would probably be much better if I wasn't drinking sweet Pa wines all day, and it wasn't in a plastic cup.
Not a single brewery offering samples at this all wine & spirit event. BOO!
