    Guten Abend!

Finally visiting Nürnberg/Nuremberg again for the "Franconian Beerfest 2024". I've already been there in 2017 and 2018 and I'm really looking forward to it. It's also the 25th anniversary.

    Start/End: Wed 05-29/Sun 06-02 (I'll be there from Wed - Sat)

    https://www.bierfest-franken.de/

    List of breweries: https://www.bierfest-franken.de/brauereien

If you're interested in any brewery, beer or nearby location, just let me know and I'll try my best to provide some information. Otherwise, I'll just randomly spam some photos of beers and food if it's ok for you :-)

    Prost!

Heilig Sheiß! That's a boat load of breweries!

I think I'd stand at the gate stuttering to myself trying to decide which way to turn!

Good luck -- moderation is your friend (to start with, anyway )!

My hotel is just a few steps away from the festival and I can tank a few liters, I'm rather worried about the cobblestones in that area

We attended that festival in 2015. We had a great time! It's so different than at US Festivals. You can better enjoy the beers when you get a half liter rather than a 2 ounce sample. You don't feel like you have to try as many samples as you can to get your money's worth.

My big trouble would be FOMO -- oh, is that one good? That one? Maybe that one? :astonished:

Got some nice breweries there, including some really tiny ones. Zwanzger has an experimental section - you should check them out! Kalk is tough to find, even in Bamberg and I have yet to visit Ahoernla. Enjoy any and all!

Ahornla was one and done for me.

Kalk Bräu is one I haven't heard of. It looks to be a hobbybrauer gone pro.

    Mainly from last September's visit.

Binkert is a newer brewery and surprisingly good.

Elch bräu had a fire, the beers were contract brewed. Biergarten was wonderful.

Gänstaller beers are very good. My Bamberg friends were unsure where those are brewed.

St. Georgianbräu kellerbier is good, but the Helles I had last year was a Diacetyl bomb.

Hersbrücker had a wonderful Pilsner, all I had there.

Hofmann had a very good Dunkel.

Stayed a few nights at Lindenbräu, enjoyed the range of beers there.

    Neder is very good.

Schanzenbräu had the best Rotbier I had.

Weißenhohe only had one beer on. The brewery was undergoing a big renovation.

    I hope this helps.

From what I can see, Kalk Bräu pretty much is a couple of hobby brewers trying out the big league. As for Ahörnla, I mentioned it as they now have a small brewing set up.

I don't think Kulmbacher/Mönchshof is good but I love their Zwickel

So good my hotel is literally 2min away. Not using "Dixi" toilets is a big win

Now this place is totally overcrowded.

    Kalk Bräu Vollbier unfiltered

What a great brew this is. Slightly fruity and a perfect malt balance.

Weißenoher Export. A little bit too hoppy for an Export if you ask me but this is still great!

Isn't there a trend toward hoppiness in German brewing? (if not necessarily American IPA type hoppiness, at least amping up the noble hops)

Really tough to take photos. This is Binkert Hell and it's fantastic. Just a little bit grassy and herbal and the perfect bready, toasty counterpart.
My last beer for today. Prost!
