It's Friday, and I'm here to start WBAYDN as predictably as my work account logging in just as I call the IT department...

This weekend-starting beer is Carlton Draught, a classic Aussie macro beer, fashionably pissed on by the craft beer intelligentsia but actually quite smooth and easy to drink in its dingy, smoke-filled pub kind of manner. I drank a liquid tonne of these during my uni days, but even though that was 30 years ago (sigh), I can see what 19-year-old AzfromOz saw in this: a simplicity and ease of drinking that didn't get in the way of important things like watching the footy and chasing girls!.

Here's to a great weekend for everyone, and plenty of WBAYDNs to come!

    Cheers

Good day Az, thanks for uncorking the thread and the nostalgia moment. I was drinking mainly Leffe Blonde or 1664 during my younger years, whether I worked or the little time I spent in college.

    La Goudale…

What a fantastic brew. Smoky, nutty, almost a little boozy, but in a good way. This is the first by BMB that Ive really liked

Brasserie La Braxeenne (France) ‘Ed.No. 2’ BBA Tripel.,. Cheeeeers!

A real treat here! Organic ale brewed in April, 2023, aged in a spent Castan Distillery (France) whiskey barrel for 12 months.
    Bottled 3 weeks ago.
I am drinking 1 of the 528 bottles produced.

Treat y’self to some ceremonial rhythm:

Good day BAs! Thanks @AzfromOz for starting us off with a little stagger down memory lane! Ah yes, I vaguely remember many glasses of Iron City on tap at the miner/trucker bar I frequented back in my college days - damned few wimmin but some great pinball! When I got a job in the local hospital, we used to have pinball lizard tournaments there - the place was just wide enough for the bar and the pinballs, parallel to the bar. I don't know who ended up with the stuffed lizard trophy...
    Anyway, Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Sweet. Mixed tropical fruits on the tongue but not on the nose - that's where the bourbon barrels reside.

Final Impression and summation: 4 Impressive feat of hiding the alcohol – probably because of the tropical fruit sweetness. Excellent taste but unfortunately the bourbon barrels didn’t survive the nearly cloying tropical sweetness. Bit of a disconnect between the aroma and taste. This is good but the price point seems a bit high.

Drinking Summerfest, with a side of Dr. Peeper, or is it? No it’s just a clever disguise so I can bring beer into the track, since for the 4 day Belmont meet you can’t bring your own beer, so I have to resort to subterfuge. I have four more covers

Hello BAs. I've been easing some stress lately via beer. Having a scrappy "If it ain't broke don't fix it" type of week with lots of rain. Rivers, lakes, tribs, buffer zones are all topped off. I've had fun nuttin' around with the pony beers and did wonder if some more BAs would join in the chorus. They have!! And Miller High Life. I've been seeing more posts with that fun water. I do like it. But today I'm feeling a jones for Heineken. It's a decent enuf beer IMO but I really just want it out of my fridge...those dirty dogs. I'll go for Grolsch in the future.
@AzfromOz my college days beer drinking was dynamic to say the least. I started out just drinking Heineken Dark. That was my freshman year at Indiana State. Then I moved to Boston, got on a Rolling Rock kick for a while, and then went dry for a little while (feckin' eejit). My beer Ahh Haa! moment was when I rented an apt next door to a young lady who was a checkout girl at Blanchard's in Allston, MA. She gave me incredible discounts so I naturally started trying all the expensive schtuff. Duvel, Chimay, Jenlan, Samichlaus, basically following the pages of Vol. 1 Michael Jackson's Pocket Guide To Beer. NTL, keg parties were typically always Bud or Miller. Then Samuel Adams came along....oooh Maybe Sammy should do Boston Ale Pony 7 oz minis?? The Paul Revere Pony Beer. Clip Clop Triple Hop. Cheers!
