Social Project Amen Corner Triple Hazy IPA w/Citra, Motueka & Motueka Kief hops, 9.4% ABV; 4.35 overall

Pours a very hazed gold with 2+ fingers of whipped up pearl colored head. Very good head retention

S: Tropical Fruit & Citrus. Oranges dominate

T: Pineapple, green melon, passion fruit, papaya, limes & dryness up front. More dryness, tangerine, pineapple, green melon & lime as this beer warms up. Finishes with pineapple, limes, dryness & passion fruit

MF: Medium body, pretty lively carbonation that tones down to creamy. Nice balance

Great & deadly drinkability, another great hazy take on the style from these guys

Have we all gone to bed?

The awesome @FBarber sent me this awesome brew

    Goose Island BCBS 2023 Proprietor's Variant, 14.5%ABV; 4.51 overall

Pours an effervescent cola/mahogany color with fast falling mocha colored head, Minimal head retention & lacing, viscous

S: Bourbon, coconut, chocolate, vanilla, Nose fades a touch down the stretch, cinnamon & maple do surface as the beer warms up to room temperature

T: Follos the nose, a little cinnamon, barrel dryness/rawness, a touch of leafy hops, raisins, rum notes as well up front. Barrel warmth, with a mostly Rum presence, some Bourbon, then maple surfaces as this beer warms up, along with coconut, vanilla, chocolate & dark fruits, some more cinnamon & a little brown sugar as well. Finishes with Rum & Cola notes, maple candy, a little Bourbon & figs all playing nice together

MF: pretty darn chewy, enough carbonation to push the flavors, pretty dang warming

I believe this is the best of this series I have tried. My original rating on BCBS might say otherwise, but I was an easy grader back then. You feel the potency of this beer, but you don't care it is just that damn good!

    Sly Fox — Helles

The second beer from the Box O' Logs mixed pack.

This is a yellow beer with no head.

The smell of yeast, but mostly acetone.

Considering the smell, it takes an effort to take a sip, but when you do, you get sweet, cheap beer.

The mouthfeel is thin with an unpleasant chemical aftertaste.

Overall meh. Naming this a Helles is a crime — it has nothing to do with the style.

Sharing a new beer for me with y'all. Beer is from @FBarber thank you kind sir for the opportunity!
This is Goose Island in collab with Mikerphone Brewing. A 13.4% ABV brew that features maple syrup additions and aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels.

    onto my review:
Sampling a 16 oz can at cellar temperature and pouring into my snifter. Can is date stamped 26 September 22.
The beer pours a dark cola brown and rests even darker in the glass. No light passes through my glass.
A dense creamy beige head of 1.5 cm foams up. The foam slowly fades to a sturdy edge layer and leaves dense lattice when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma is some dark chocolate, hints of maple and some sweeter bourbon note. The maple is more prevalent than the bourbon. No hop character and not really boozy or fusol either.
First sip reveals a medium body with very smooth and soft texture. Carbonation is very fine, soft and gentle and caresses my palate with each sip. Beer feels very nice on each sip.
Flavor is some dark chocolate, cocoa powder, maple syrup and faint bourbon notes. The maple hits harder here and the sweetness lingers after each sip. I never find any hop character and the booze is very well hidden on this beer.
tasty beer that checks in with about what you wold expect after reading the description. Glad to have tried this one.

Sorry we missed your full review. Glad you enjoyed, wish they would have just taken off your music link. Have this planned for later this morning.

Sounded like you have a great visit today! Untappd has as a Japanese Rice Lager. I usually go with what the brewer lists, but if ambiguous feel your choice is just as valid.

Congratulations on your son's Flag Football Championship! And nice Regional win for you and your friend to enjoy yesterday Craig @cjgiant!

I have to say my preferred North Pole is in Alaska, near Fairbanks.

Will see you all later today with the aforementioned Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan & Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV Braupakt 2024 selection

Overall this one is a good beer. Missing something and not sure what, but still worth a shot. 4

Good day BAs! Thanks to @Orca for getting the party started. This is actually my second new beer of the weekend - I was checking a word spelling from yesterday's attempted post and returned to find everything I'd already typed gone.

Clear – from Asahi. Received in a retaliatory ninja strike from @snaotheus. Reviewed 02/06/24 (Review 3284). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “2024.11 and 2024.03CA”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 39.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 47.3 degrees F.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale straw (SRM 2), clear.
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), clear.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.3 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density, average retention, leaving an irregular 0.3 – 0.5 cm ring and a rocky partial cap.
Lacing – Fair. Three dimensional chunks of tiny to small bubbles.
Aroma – 4 – Sweet corn. No yeast, no hops, no malt, no alcohol (5 % ABV as marked on the can).
Flavor – 4 – Slightly sweet with corn. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol. No diacetyl. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Thin; watery; sparkling carbonation.
Final Impression and summation: 4 A surprisingly good beer, light enough to be a good lawnmower brew, but markedly tastier than a mass-produced AAL.
    Rating 4, rDev +37.9%

This reminds me of the Straub greenies I used to down 30 years ago, but a bit lighter. And yes, that's a good thing.

    Overall:
This is a single / Belgian Blonde Ale packed with flavor and full body, with a light and easy in terms of feel and perceived strength. While I typically gravitate to Triples and Quads, by memory this could be my favorite in terms of a light and easy Single / Blonde Ale. Two great breweries equals crazy solid offering! Really hope this returns on a regular basis! 4.5

Bottom line, really digging this, light and easy in terms of strength so perfect for the morning, still packed with flavor. This one definitely lived up to the hype and reputation of both breweries. Be sure to pick up 1, 4 or 24!

Supposed to be a much nicer day weatherwise here today, so perhaps I'll have a few road beers. Otherwise, this ends the weekend on a great note. Cheers!

    Good People Brewing IPA

Deep gold color with lasting off white cap.

Aroma of earthy pine and pithy grapefruit. Certainly hop forward.

Taste of piney hops first quickly joined by caramely malt. The two are well balanced and each neatly offsets the other.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall it's a well crafted IPA that leans toward the malt rich piney side of things.

    Fulton Hop Kingdom Imperial IPA
    [IMG]
Appearance: Clear dark gold, good head.

Smell: Interesting watermelon note, then general fruitiness.

Taste: Mildly sweet to start, mild general fruitiness and prickly carbonation. Watermelon note is still there but in the background. Finishes with a solid citrus bitterness.

Overall: Picked up a mix of the Fulton IPAs, unfortunately they were a little old but this imperial IPA still seems to have legs. Very interesting watermelon note that I don't think I've ever had before. Will have to get a 6er for further investigation.

Yesterday I attended the fourth annual Logjammin’ lager beer festival in Philly. Another great time!

I drank a lot of beer and not a single beer was a ‘dumper’ in the context of it was not a good beer.

I was able to reconnect with some old beer industry (brewers, etc.) acquaintances and I was fortunate to meet some new ones: I spoke to the head brewer of KCBC Brewing, Bobby Rolandi, for about 20 minutes and to Joe Connolly of Jack’s Abby for over a half hour.

The following is for @jonphisher since he asked about Birdsmouth and we previously discussed Tonewood Brewing:

Below is a photo of Birdsmouth Mexican Dunkel:

And here is a photo of Tonewood Mexican Dark Lager:

Both beers were well brewed and tasty. I guess there was a memo circulated among the Jersey brewers to bring Mexican dark lagers?

    Cheers!

Last year I discussed beers at Logjammin’ that I awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. This year I will just discuss two beers that I will categorize as winners.

The first winner is sorta a repeat in that I awarded them a Silver medal last year for a Cinderlands/Human Robot Franconian American Style Lager. This year they brought three beers but as this was later in the event I only drink one, Czech Pils. Even though my palate was a tad weary I recognized right away this beer was excellent! I wish I had ‘found’ this booth earlier so I could have enjoyed all three of the beers they brought. Cinderlands is locates in western PA and when I am in that area I will definitelty seek out their beers. Below is a photo of Cinderlands Czech Pils:

The other winner is a brewery that is new to me: Counterweight which is located in Connecticut. This beer was collaboratively brewed with Troegs and they had a placard there:

“A Special Project in Collaboration with our friends at Troegs. We are excited to share Noble Souls Coolship Lager. Providing a gentle sweet and bready character, and hopped in the coolship to provide a herbaceous balance. This lager delivers a refined balance in aroma, flavor and is incredibly drinkable.”

This beer is excellent and I wholeheartedly agree with “incredibly drinkable”. Since this beer was a collaborative effort with Troegs I hope that I find cans locally, and if I do I will buy some. Below is a photo of the Counterweight/Troegs Noble Souls Coolship Lager:

Haha this is great Jack, thanks for sharing...that Tonewood Mexican Dark has been calling me, and if I wasn't busy today I'd go try it. Gonna hope it is still around next weekend for their anniversary where my birthday present to myself that weekend will be going to pick up some cans to go and hopefully a pour of the above beer.

Thanks for the recon on Birdsmouth, maybe I will drive the hour up there and take a field trip this summer. I said the same thing last summer...:slight_frown:

Really cool write up on these ones too, Troegs also just released a collab with Tonewood, not sure if it'll see distro but...

Beer is called "Brothers Gotta Hug," looks like Czech pils on label...

I got the impression from speaking to Joe Connolly that collaborations is a 'thing' nowadays. I made it a point to take Joe over to meet the Von C Brewing guys (Ryan the marketing & sales person and Mike the head brewer) and I took note that a business card was exchanged. Maybe a Jack's Abby/Von C collaboratively brewed beer in the future?

    Cheers!

Aroma is cantaloupe, tangerine, apricot, and grapefruit rind. 3.5

Taste follows cantaloupe, tangerine, apricot, and some bold pink grapefruit. 3.5

Mouthfeel is above average for sure, gentle carbonation, maybe a tad dry, and at 9% it drinks like that with massive flavor. 3.75

Overall not a huge fan. Almost a tad gritty while sipping. Flavors a tad offensive in bitterness and the flavors don’t play well together. 3.5
