Brewers notes: During the long winter months on this most Northwesterly coast, the brewers at Fort George contemplated the meaning of IPA. What is an IPA? Where does it come from? How do you create the perfect union of form, function, and hops? The answer - as it often is at Fort George - was collaboration. Not collaboration within one brewery, or even between two. This one is a 3-Way. A 3-Way IPA. Our 2024 3-Way IPA is a glorious golden elixir perfectly calibrated for maximum enjoyment, brought to you by the brewers at Brujos, Ghost Town, and Fort George.

Pale gold, zippy, zesty, tangerine and watermelon with bitterness on deck and a vibrant, balanced finish.

    Hops: Simcoe, Mosaic, Columbus Cryo

Malt: GW 2-Row, Rahr Pils, Weyermann Acidulated

    Yeast: WLP001

Can recieved via shenanigans associated with BIF18 from @snaotheus, chilled 16 oz can poured into a pretentious beer glass, crowning three finger white foam presides over a clear golden liquid, small carbonation streams

    Aroma is piney

    taste is pine, dank,

Mouthfeel is clean crisp ,soft hop bite at the finish

    Good beer

16oz can served in a tulip. Don't see a date on it anywhere. @WunderLlama got it to me about a week ago.

Pours murky milkshake texture, whitish orange, about 1.5cm creamy head which turns into an incredibly even, dense, ~1mm layer over the surface of the beer and the sides of the glass. Smell is orange cream, hop resin, orange zest.

Taste is similar, leaning toward overripe tropical fruit, yet somehow also dryer. Lots of citrus rind.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and pretty chalky. Overall, very nice.

Hoppy Road Brewery (France) ‘Coco En Stock’ Imperal Stout

33 cl can poured into a chalice, in Toulouse, France. Packed in May, 2023.
Small head on dense black brew, with mini retention.
Nose is dark chocolate, date, mild coffee, and a whiff of coconut.
Taste is of a comforting beer, nice velvety texture. Firm roast malt base brings flavors of chocolate and caramel that intertwine with a generous hit of coconut - real puree used, not syrup. Summit and Pacific Gem hops round out a nicely rounded taste experience. 12.2% ABV moves everything right along.,
Full smooth mouthfeel from the addition of flaked oats, low carbonation.
Overall, maybe lost a little from a year in the can, but a delicious liquid dessert sipper nonetheless.

Another weekend day, another new-to-me Fox Farm beer.

Helmhold is a 5.3% ABV München-style Dunkel, and these types of beers are where Fox Farm really excels*: light European-style lagers that deliver waves of flavor and nothing amiss.

Balanced bitterness, but the malts clearly star here, delivering notes of dark and rye bread, prune, cola, and chocolate. Drinks so much bigger than the ABV or the mouthfeel; it's a delightful experience from start to finish.

I've got a very high rating on this one, and I think I might actually be selling it short.

    Cheers, Weekenders!

*I think their farmhouse ales are actually the best thing they do, but nonetheless, I think they're one of the top lager breweries in the nation.

    Bierkeller Sommerbier

"What's Sommerbier? you ask. It's a new recipe using 100% Weyermann (that's the Bamberg malt) Isaria 1924 -- an heirloom grain that tastes like earlier lagers used to. Richly malty with an abundant bouquet of floral hops from our friends at Seitz Hop Farm in the Hallertau, this beer clocks in at just 3.6% ABV...but tastes much bigger. "

It is full flavored and refreshing. I could drink it all afternoon.

    Lazy Sunday morning.
I am drinking this new beer, Strongman Coffee Milk Stout from Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville, NC.
A black beer with a tan head that persists for some time.
Aroma of roasted malt and coffee.
Taste of espresso coffee, along with some sweet vanilla.
A little light in the mouth.
    An enjoyable beer.

Clear, dirty amber color, dark mahogany in the glass and nearly opaque; thick head, light khaki colored, densely sudsy. Rich, malty nose; mild caramel; light brown sugar. The taste mirrors the aroma with the addition of a moderated bourbon presence; trace of white oak. Heavy body; generally smooth overall; boozy dryness.

This is a pretty tasty bourbon barrel-aged wee heavy. I like that the barrel aging isn't overpowering and allows the base beer style to stay in the fore.

Poured from 16oz can dated 05/22/24 poured to a Nonic at fridge temp.
It has a hazy yellow body. A puffy white head starts out as about 2-inches of multi-sized bubbles. That fades rather quickly to a 1mm ring. Lacing is medium.
There is melon in the aroma as well as some dankness.
Melon, peach, lime and some unhidden alcohol are the taste. Drinks like a 10+% beer.
    Body is medium, carbonation light.
I’m on the fence on this one frankly. Drinkable, but would not buy again.

Good afternoon, Weekenders! I've got a big ol' barleywine for my next new beer: Big Chuck Hunter (Kentucky), a 12.1% ABV "American" barleywine aged for 13 months in Willett bourbon barrels.

I put American in quotes, because this is a very, very sweet beer. In fact, it's too sweet, bordering on cloying ... and that's about the last bad thing I'll say about this beer, because otherwise, it's freaking delicious.

I've got plenty of words in the full review, so I'll simply link it below (as normal), and let you check it out if you choose. Bottom line: it's a very tasty, very malty, very bourbon-y barleywine that is absolutely hitting the spot for a slow sipper.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Swiggers and commentators. At Autodidact Beer on Friday afternoon, I had a draught pour of its brand new collaboration with Two Villains Brewing Co. - a NEIPA called Euphoria. I was struck by how mellow the fruit tasted. It drinks much sharper - and better - from the can. The Nectaron and Belma hops shine with lots of bright, bold pineapple, peach, red berry, and ripe melon. But the real difference is the balancing spicy bitterness of the El Dorado which was missing in the draught pour. It's a much more vibrant - and very tasty - New England IPA from the can. I like this a lot! Autodidact and Two Villains excel at hazies and Euphoria is excellent work! I raised my rating to:

Happy NBS, possibly my favorite day of the week on this site.
My first beer today came from winning an LIF during NBW BIF #18. @Victory_Sabre1973 sent me this (among many others!)

Just have to say I love the name of the brewery. And they brewed a pretty good Maibock too.
Poured transparent honey color with a nearly white head which didn’t stick around for long. But it sure looks nice in the glass.
The taste is a touch hop forward with some bready malt flavors playing support.
The feel is light and oh so quaffable. This is a pleasure to drink.
OA, I don’t tend to buy these myself but when I drink one I often wonder if I should change that.
Right, first day in over a week that the temps are not over the lower 70s. Back out to battle the Oriental Bittersweet.
    Cheers all!

Heat is again brutal today; some light relief tomorrow and hopefully some storms tonight. I was pleasantly surprised to find a single of this for $1.50; it’s in the mixed 12 pack and that’s it so I’m happy I get to try this exclusive without buying a 12 pack.

I’m going @Roguer today, I tend to enjoy your short and to the point big picture reviews with the option to read full one in profile so this one’s for you…maybe it’ll be my new normal, I guess we’ll see next weekend.

Troegs - Leisure Cruise (Fruited Wheat 4.7%)

One could probably guess there is fruit in this by looking at it; slightest hint of pink from the raspberries added.

It’s quite the refreshing beer; the raspberry leads the way in aroma and taste but it’s with restraint and not overpowering.

It also does quite a nice job; mostly in feel of representing the wheat character of a Hefeweizen.

It has this little bit of acidity on the finish from the berries that give this a very refreshing quality to it.

A quality summer refreshing beer; I’d recommend to anyone who wants something that makes you say “ahhhh” on a summer day. I’m not sure how this is added but to me this is a fruit beer over a wheat beer.

@mactrail here are some new grows for me. I mostly have perennials but I enjoy annuals that are good self seeders and I hope these prove to be. Unique and super cool looking flowers…

    From a 16oz can.

Murky golden pour with a thick white head. Great retention and some lacing on the glass.
Aroma is very floral and has a nice wild funk to it.
Taste - very nice tartness to this beer. Just a ton of floral notes. Great bitterness from the hops.
Body is bubbly and full. Tart and bitter feelings linger in my throat.
Damn delicious on this sunny day in paradise.

    Be back later for more.

Humble Forager Enchanted Island v6 Fruited Sour, 9% ABV. Pours murky dark-orange with a finger of light-pink head that left no lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit and citrus. Taste follows, plus grapefruit, equally sweet/tart/bitter, with bitterness presenting as rind. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good. Humble Forager tweaks their beers and gives them version numbers. I previously had v1 and rated it 4.39, that one was modeled after Painkiller. Not looking good for this version, modeled after Nene Bird.
